I personally liked the Reapers far more before their purpose was 'explained'.

It's a toss up between batarians and quarians. On the one hand you have cruel, cowardly egomaniacs and on the other you have batarians.

I don't really hate any race in Mass Effect. But there are those, as general rule, that I wouldn't trust due to their cultural norms and general politics. The closest would be the Reapers. But after Space Hitler, I lean toward taking some pity on the Reapers for being a slave race controled by a pint-sized glowing Pol Pot., even if their mystique was killed by the Catalyst.
