I read this a lot. People justifying their builds, or weapon choices, or bringing a level 1 to a gold game...

What many of you don't seem to realise is that us forum goers make up a small percentage of the active MP community, and that it's likely we're going to be better than Joe Public because we're more informed due to the constant sharing of information and discussions, because we're interested more in fine tuning builds, and so on.

It's not absolute, of course, but please remember that the majority of public games will be made up of casual players or people who simply haven't spent hours scrutinising stats charts and discussion threads and the very fact that you've come here has put you at an advantage.

So next time you boast about "always topping the boards", please consider it doesn't make you as great a player as you might think.

Well that and "always" is an absolute. If you claim to always get top score, you're a liar. I often get top score on a Human Sentinel, but it's not every time. I almost never get top score on a Salarian Engineer, but it can happen if my squad totally sucked. It varies.

Always topping the boards should not be a players main goal to begin with.

@Renew81 Why not if they are still playing as a helpful teammate? Unless I know a squadmate is taking care of an objective I will go right for it. If they are on it and need protection I am the first one there. Someone needs revived or cover while reviving? I am there again doing either. I always try to put up my best effort and almost always ends up being top score ( not always, but nothing wrong with it). If I ever drop down from silver though I usually sport a stasis bubble asari just for assisst, but any difficulty hire and my goals are kill anything that moves and get as many credits as possible.

The average player is proper bad thou, I find myself top of the scoreboard as a support class often.

Yes but you are helping your team members you are not ignoring everything just to get kills
and thats more what i ment , it should not be the main goal to kill as much as you can without
doing anything else ( not uploading , no revives , no capturing/ protecting etc ) iam not saying
its wrong to get a top score in the process but ignoring everything to get that top score is in my
opinion not the way for a co op.

True enough, but there is nothing wrong with trying to be top score so long as you still play as a good teammate. I usually get either 10 or 25 assisst, set of explosions when possible, revive/cover revive, get 50 or 75 kill medal, and always go for objectives. It is likely different in gold, but being a primarly silver player there is nothing wrong with it IMO (as long as you don't make it harder on teammates with stupid deaths).

You're right, of course.  Topping the score boards doesn't actually mean your build is special, it just means you're better than Joe PuG, which is frankly a pretty low hurdle.  For example, I have no problem topping the scoreboards and clearing Gold on any map against any faction with a Drell Vanguard, but I would never argue that a Drell Vanguard wasn't crap, or that I have some super special awesome build with it.  Simply having basic situational awareness, a decent weapon, and the capability to aim is sufficient to top the scoreboards in a PuG.

I'm always dead last or third. Why? Because I prioritize objectives not senseless shooting rampage that get the team killed.

Although I top most of them sometimes.

I dont give a damn crap about scoreboards but i always look at em for statistic purposes

the best i've seen on the forums so far is that:

i play mostly <insert any blow average class on gold here> on silver, my build is <insert any completely retarded build here> with GPS X. and i top charts every time.

people have to face it. anyone using a GPS will do ok, even if he's bad beyond repair. GPS is made for that. you can be almost as good as those that can actually play by just having this weapon.

Step 1: State you're always dead last on the scoreboard.
Step 2: Contradict yourself, stating you 'top' them.
Step 3: Contradict yourself again, stating 'most of them'.
Step 4: Use the adverb 'sometimes' just for good measure.
Step 5: ???

So... has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Ya lol my gold runs are like this: If I'm top to second we won't make it past wave 3-6, second to third 6-8, third to last 9-11.

Everyone on the forums is always topping the scoreboard, especially while doing their daily solo Gold runs in <40 minutes on level 1 characters.

I'm just always in a four-way tie for 1st on the only score that matters. I'm still better than everyone at everything though, just like everyone else.

Look at it like this.

Say if you died reviving someone who clutches a round - they're obviously going to score higher than you, but your contribution led to them getting back up and getting a top score.

I don't really care where I place - so long as we get the credits, I'm happy.

I am usually top of the scoreboard at the end of the mission but I do not feel like I earned top spot unless I am completing the objectives (which I always do) and revive my team-mates as much as possible.

I don't understand why people care so much about topping the board to begin with. There is little competitive elements in the game (if any). And yes it is very possible to prioritize objectives and revives and still be at the top. Being first doesn't necessarily imply a 'lone wolf' attitude.

While this is true (again, because most people are only talking about beating Joe PuG), OPTIMIZING your score requires some counterproductive behavior.
