Then again PC gaming is just now starting to come off of a glut of bad console to PC ports, a lot of which lacked things PCs are known for like extensive graphics options and rebindable keys.

Honestly, it has to be lazy porting issues. There's absolutely no reason not to include an FOPV slider in a PC title, from a coding perspective it would be a very simple thing to implement and it's a very important thing to consider.

It's sadly the precedent that when a game is multi platform the devs are allowed to build lazy PC versions that simply port everything they've done for consoles. I'm sure they do mean to eventually get arond to adding things like this once they begin, but then realise that peopel will just buy the game anyway, or start thinking more about the next DLC pack they could squeeze more money out of us with, etc...

It's a shame that they can't remember why they started making games in the first place, I'm pretty sure they all went into the industry with a passion for gaming. This kind of oversight shows a lack of that drive.

One death march to release will suck the passion and life force out of any dev. (by dev I mean the coders)

But I wouldn't call leaving this option out lazy, my guess is that they were working 16+ hour days, 6-7 days a week for 1-3 months up to launch.

Rather I think they leave this stuff out because it saves money.

Less features = less QA = saves money.

Or so the thinking goes. Doesn't matter to a producer/project manager how simple a feature is, they have process that they follow.

So yeah, 99% chance it wont break anything, so I'm not arguing against it. I believe it should be there. But I find it unlikely this is coding laziness. I mean it's the unreal engine. The option is obviously there. But I'm pretty sure they would feel compelled to test it.

I just don't see how somethign so simple/essential could be left out dsue to anythig but lazy porting. This is pretty much an essential PC standard that's been forgotten since multi-platform took the standard and devs could no longer be bothered to optimise for PC.

100% it wouldn't break anything. If the widescreen fixer can do it, Bioware can do it.

If you play on PC, please keep this topic alive to increase chances of a dev response.

Cheers!

Have you tried to PM one of them directly? Seems a reasonable question to submit that way.

I have. PMd Thomas Abram already. Perhaps you guys could PM him too to put a little pressure on for a response.

Come on guys, if you're a veteran PC gamer you know how essential this mode is to some home set-ups. Please keep the thread alive!

*BUMP*

Weird FOV can cause all sorts of problems from headaches to nausea in some people. This is pretty important.

This. And sadly with this go around I bought it on Xbox instead of PC since my PC is in the process of being rebuilt and upgraded so it can run destroy Borderlands 2...

Anyway, I would really appreciate a slider in the menu options somewhere for FoV.

So I support this thread, but I am supporting it in hopes that we get an actual official menu slider.

Hopeful bump.

This really needs clarification since getting a proper FoV improves the game significantly.

I've been using the widescreenfixer tool since the demo and haven't been banned or anything, works like a charm, i doubt Bioware is ever gonna respond to these thread since we've had multiple big ones ever since the demo hit.

Widescreenfixer only works for SP, not MP, right?

We need an official word on this. I see absolutely no reason why a dev can't pop their head in and simply give us a yes or no.

Well I don't know what "lazy porting" means other than a catch all for the lack of having PC specific features.

If by "lazy" you mean cost cutting and pressure from EA, then yeah I agree.

But be careful throwing that word around.  I wouldn't go calling people lazy unless you've worked in gaming.  This wasnt some underpaid, overworked code monkey's mistake.  I'm sure they are aware of what FOV is and how important it is.

But didn't you also notice that text chat didnt make it in the game?  And a mute button?  Lots of stuff ended up on the chopping block. (like the ending).  They work from the lowest common denominator and try and put PC features in if they can.  The people who decide what features get worked on are the producers and project managers.  They have deadlines and budgets.  It's not a matter of how hard they worked, rather it is what they decided to prioritize to meet a 2 year dev cycle (insanely short for a AAA title).

100% it wouldn't break anything. If the widescreen fixer can do it, Bioware can do it.

Kinda faulty logic... "if it works on some/one PC, it will work on all"

The thing is they would still probably want to QA it.  And it does affect performance when more objects are on screen.

But it seems like they could just make it an option like dynamic shadows.  Then put it at what is is now (60?) as the default.  And skip the QA. However this just isnt how producers/project managers tend to work.

I agree that we should have it.  I just dont think the fact that it's missing has anything remotely to do with laziness.

It funny -- just today I was joking with another programmer that his last words will be "on the surface it appears to be easy"

The game looks exceedingly better in higher FOV, imo. I used the fixer to play through the campaing the second time with it and I couldn't believe the difference.

Anyway, that's not a response to the question.
