Also, on that same post a dev posted that using the Coalesced.bin to remap keys is acceptable, don't know if modifying FOV counts as remapping keys, but anyways...

Yeh, that's in refrence to the same thing I posted in the OP. It doesn't clarify what we need to know, ie: whether adjusting FOV is considered the kind of "unfair advantage" they mention.

If the other ifx doesn't work, you can manually edit the files as mentioned by J717 - - - here. This way means you have to set a hotkey to switch between FOVs when cinematics play, but it'll work if the others don't.

I did the fix that J717 posted, works like a charm. Got default FOV at F10 and FOV 90 at F11. The cutscene switch back and forth doesn't bother me that much since I only need a better view while I'm playing Turian or Krogan, so I only use FOV 90 for MP gameplay.

Wicked. I'll add it to the OP then for those who'd prefer to do it this way.

Blast. I know it says it probably won't work with Nvidia cards, but it's still disappointing to see it (or lack thereof) happen. Why???

Anyway, for those who think changing the FOV gives an unfair advantage somehow, that means everyone with a wide screen gets said advantage (if only partially) for free without any modifying whatsoever. Should they be banned for that?

I run it with a gtx 560ti, works great. And if not, the manual edit is sound. :)

I tried that "FlawlessWidescreen" program and it is great! Can actually see something behind a krogan now.
Tho I can't change the FoV or disable it ingame. Only works if I set the fov and enable it before launching MassEffect3.

So the question is just about is it considered as an unfair advantage.
I'm leaning towards no. It was said a few pages back that using multiple monitors already achieves this effect and I honestly can't see anyone saying that playing with three monitors is cheating.

I wonder if it could cause the PC that is running the mod to become visually out of sync with the non modified other players, especially in spectator mode.

this feature should be already in the game. once again, fans have to pick up the slack while the devs are busy giving us crap we don't want or need.

I just can't see that happening as it only expands your view, it doesn't modify anything in the game, especially other players fov. ;)

It really is the trend nowadays with all big title PC games. "Smaller" and "unknown" games usually let you modify everything you'd expect, but I'd say that is because they don't have some huge company like EA breathing down their necks for money.

Feels like they know it should be there but still leave it out on purpose to save some expenses by letting the fans do it later on their own. That's not exactly true, but it's true in the sense that games are done mainly for consoles and it's rare to see anyone playing on one asking for a way to change to fov. There are some, but it's a minority.

Just like that text-chat button that was in the PC demo.
Well they just removed the whole binding from the options menu instead of actually making the chat work, good job...

FoV doesn't give advantage in any game ever anyway, stop being full of s**t.

On PC FoV setting or at least a reasonable field of view should be implemented by default, 70 is not acceptable. Damn console ports.

Changed it since launch, no problems since. It shouldn't be bannable, and it WONT be bannable. Feel free to change it to what you feel comfortable with.

It's always sad to see game devs not even trying to adjust the game for the respective platform.
FOV is not even a case of personal preference as it is about simple biology. PC gamers are sitting way closer to their monitor than console gamers. Using the same FOV on both platforms is plain stupid and shows that someone at BioWare hasn't really understood how this works.

If we have to adjust the game ourselves to work on a platform, BioWare better does not dare labelling it as cheating. We're doing their job for them because they couldn't be bothered.

It really doesn't give an unfair advantage, the only thing it provides is that I don't fall asleep mid-match due to my eyes shutting down to avoid further strain.
I enabled this program and I could feel how the strain from my eyes was getting reduced. Good job!

By the way, the reason why they don't openly say "you should use this for it is awesome" is the nature of this program, considering it is based on memory alteration, meaning it's technically a hack. Not a malicious one, but it's still a hack. Which is why Origin tosses you off the servers if you adjust FOV too wildly in-game.

But honestly, if they don't include the option to make the game more available to more fans, and stop causing physical discomfort; then if I can't use this, then I don't necessarily have to play the game, nor pay for any future releases of EA , and specifically Bioware, as this would be their responsibility to fix.

Hmmm, interesting. This could explain why I've had a constant headache for the last few weeks since i started playing multiplayer a lot. I think I'm gonna have to try this out even if i do wind up getting banned.

They should just grab the code and add it to ME3. It cannot be too hard...

So, do you think we will have an official statement about changing the FoV?...
Since they don't seems in a hurry to patch us a nice FoV slider, at the very least they should make an official statement telling us if they consider the act of fixing it ourselves cheating or not...

IMHO, if the game was cross-platform (XBox, PS3 and PC playing together) I could understand it would gives PC an advantage. But since it's not the case, I see no harm in it...
Not knowing is quite annoying... Last thing I want is to lose my Hurricane II or my Black Widow for something I consider a fix EA/Bioware should have done to the PC...

PS: I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel the FoV is set around 30... So much the tunnel vision seems narrow...

Don't forget, you may perhaps need to re-apply something you may or may not have found in this thread, post-patch.
