Read better... don't try to fix it. You're the one using your opinion as fact.

title says "Jennifer Hale is Overrated" not "Mark Meer deserves more respect"

And...? Is still his opinion.

opinion stated as fact

if it was his/her opinion it would've said IMO or "Don't get all the Hale hype"

Now don't get me wrong here, I like Jennifer Hale as a voice actor. I
loved her in KOTOR and other stuff, but to me I have to raise an eyebrow
every time that I see a thread turn into nothing but six pages of
people quoting each other going "oh my gawd jenifer hale is sooooooo
amazin111!" usually people with FemShep avatars and followed by a slurry
of hate towards "the lesser" Mark Meer.

To be me Jennifer Hale
tried too hard with FemShep.
Yes, Meer sounded rather bored and monotone
in Mass Effect 1, in the sequel they matched up pretty damn well but in
Mass Effect 3 he overtook Hale in my personal opinion. When I hear
FemShep I hear somebody desperately trying to look tough, straining
their throat as much as possible to look like they're putting emotion
into the character. It just doesn't fit. Compare the Trooper in the
TORtanic to her as FemShep and you can see there is a noticable
difference in quality; she does great as the Trooper because she isn't
trying too hard to be a generic OTT tough girl half-shouting every
line.

If you read these forums you would think she had the voice
of the angels themselves. I don't think Meer gets the respect he
deserves frankly,
especially considering how much he drastically
improved between now and the original games. Maybe it's just female
gamers trying to rally to "their" side I don't know.

Flame away.

Yeah not his opinion at all.

Yea i agree. I actually like Meer more than Hale in ME3. ME2 i would still give it to Hale because some lines she just delivered better but Meer is pretty good too. In ME3 Meer's performance is just very fitting, playing broshep has never been better.

For me, Hale has to try to sound badass, Meer does it naturally. And for that reason I have never quite warmed to playing as femshep.

And yeah, sometimes Hale tries to be emotional (not saying she can't be), but fails really badly and instead of sounding happy or moved, she sounds bored. Like Garrus romance in ME2.

But I don't think this is a problem with either Meer or Hale. I mean both are really good, sometimes they sound like if they're being forced to sound dull and bored.

She definitely can be emotional. The way she delivers Shep's last words to a romanced Garrus in ME3 are just...wow. :crying:

Meer is great, no doubt about it, but for me, Hale "wins". I don't know, she sounds more emotional in, well, emotional scenes. For instance, the last talk with Garrus, Hale actually sounds a little nervous, Meer continues with his whole deadpan delivery. Little things like that make me prefer Hale.

Don't get me wrong, I think Meer is an awesome VA, but as far as Shepard's VA'ing is concerned I prefer Hale. She pulls off emotions better, and still manages to sound like a hardened war veteran when required.

Having said that, I haven't heard any other of Meer's work, so his range probably exceeds the range he emotes as Sheploo.

She didn't try to hard most of her lines were very well done she sounds like she should confident, annoyed, I've only had 1% of her lines seem like she's trying to be macho girl and failing. I love her voice she's had 3 games of solid voice acting she knows how to infuse her work with feeling and inflection Mshep only got 1 game and 3 dlcs to be allowed to have that in his performance. Hale still wins in the VA persona over the entire series for me.

FemShep is overrated.

Everything else Hale did was way better than her Femshep acting.

This argument has been going on since ME 1, and I'll say what I've been saying since then. Every actor interprets a script differently, so just because a character is written the same doesn't mean they'll be played the same. Take Jack Nicholson Joker vs. Heath Ledger Joker. Meer and Hale have different interpretations of the Shepard: in their minds, they see the character differently, so they act him/her differently. I think Meer looks at his character as more of a tough, no-nonsense person, whereas Hale sees her character as more emotionally charged and opinionated. Remember: more emotion doesn't make a better character, it's just different.

I love the work of both VAs, but only this year discovered Hale's excellent job at portraying femShep (been playing ME since 2009).

I'm doing a MaleShep for the first time. Mark Meer's voice is powerful, but I thought he lacked emotion in some parts in Mass Effect 3. The Mars mission made me think that he really didn't care if Cerberus got away. It went like "She's getting away...Damnit...James, Normandy? Anyone?..." He just didn't seem to care if he got the data or not. Where as with Jennifer Hale it was "She's getting away! Damnit! James, Normandy, Anyone?!?!?!" She acted like this was the turning point in the war and finding a way to stop the Reapers, which it was. Both voice actors did an amazing job, I just think Jennifer Hale voiced Shepard better. To each his/her own.

She does have the voice of angels. Yes, Meer is a talented voice actor. Very few actors in ME fail to deliver, imho.

eehhhh i still prefer femshep

They're both great. Hale has voiced one of the best acted parts in a game ever to me, for instance.

Agreed. I think Hale is every bit as good as advertised, but it doesn't take anything away from Meer's excellent work. Both VAs were given a lot of good stuff to work with in ME3 and both did a phenomenal job. Meer's acting really impresses in getting across the toll all the fighting and loss has taken on Shepard. Whether it's expressing weariness or resolve, he hits all the right notes.

This whole idea (especially prevelant on the internet) that you have to tear down one thing--or person, in this case--in order to praise another is beyond silly.

I'm gonna have to disagree here. Every time I hear the two of them say the same line, the first thing I think is 'Hale just sounds better'. From what I've seen, Meer did improve a lot from ME1, but Hale is one of the best and just has way more experience, and it shows.

Yes, Hale tends to get more credit for some reason.

Neither are exceptional, but I prefer Meer.

To be fair, that was more how poorly the two takes were edited together than Meer (or Hale's for that matter). You get the same problem with the MaleShep Kaidan scene.
