But yeah, headbutting an Atlas goes a bit too far.
Do people really think the purpose of a Kroguard is to charge and just melee until they die?

Well, I'm not saying it's not possible per se even if it might seem so... but it's more about being able to do it with consistency. Personally I'd rather not get into a situation like that to begin with, unless there's no other option.Count Dante wrote...
Man, since this is the thread atm, I wish I had a video to demonstrate exactly how I personally do it. Most of the time, at least 2 of the Pyros are close to either other. I also use 200% and Disciple most times on Gold geth.
Personally I roll almost exclusively with a Geth Plasma Shotgun X for additional range and firepower - Disciple does have the stagger but it really lacks damage. I also carry a Geth SMG for when the Shotgun runs out of ammo - after all, with ULM the SMG literally only takes 3% off of cooldown modifier. So as end result my cooldown modifier is 157%. It'd indeed be nicer to be at 200%, but honestly I think in the end having a powerful gun is worth it more.
I agree there to. I never try to put myself in that situation on Gold. It usually occurs if the squad is in a bad spot or I am going for a rez and wham, there are friends. It may happen on a poor charge choice as well. But usually when I end up like this, the squad is not far behind me and I am basically staying alive and a Tank target with support. I dont like to be far from the squad, or at least 2 of them if a infil is setting up somewhere or the like.
I guess a better point is that there are very few situations where the KV is a hopeless cause and dies. It is the most fun when I can survive the auto-death fights. Where other classes die quickly, the KV lives...or at least lives longer.
Also agreed on the Disciple and damage and I choose weapons based on the team make up. If it looks like I will need to bounce like a ping-pong and/or smaller map, I like the extra stagger. Or if I have a biotic running with me, I like the 200%. I also run with GPS X as a "default". And certainly 160 (or 157) is just fine for KV. But all situational based on team and map.

Charge only to stagger a cluster of mobs and regen Barrier(if you are talking about Krogan Vanguard) then blast them to bits with gun. I rarely melee on gold only when there are very few enemies left and I know I can activate Rage without dying
I use the melee more for the stagger and frames of immunity. I do spec into Martial Artist only because it is that or 15% decrease to shield regen, which has always felt a bit weak/redundant with vanguard.

It's a krogan's purpose. If you want to play slowly and safely, why take krogan ? He is good even for slow and careful approach, but meleeing everything is just fun. True, it's not easy to master .. it's high risk .. but also high reward. Same as vanguarding ..
Problem I've with Krogan players is they charge everything and get in the way of other players firing line and get themselves killed, when it comes to working as a team Krogan players are missing more then a few marbles.
One day they will learn you play as a team not a loner.

If you know what you are doing you can a bit of that, and then tank for the team when it matters. Unfortunately I've easily cleared Reaper Gold with the Kroguard, with the highest score.
If it is just clear mobs wave, I am good. If it is a hack where I cant move much, I get screwed. Sometimes get screwed on personnel depending what wave it pops. I have yet to solo Gold to wave 10 though, that would be fun as hell. But I keep trying...

I use the melee more for the stagger, between melee hits charges and disciple shots I can lock down a group of enemies. I rarely ever die doing this, hell geth in particular are a joke with the kroguard, he has innate stagger resistance and they lack a unit with instakills so it's a free for all with them, rather than the more careful style you have to employ when taking on groups with phantoms/brutes/banshees lurking about.
I don't even go for kills with my kroguard, I just like the feeling of actually being able to take some hits, I like to think any enemy futilely trying to kill me is one less shooting at my teammates which in turn gives them more time to spend out of cover putting large holes in their targets.

I am guessing Blood Rage is still bugged on Kroguards? Which kinda makes a complete melee build pointless.
My staple so far though is Charge+Heavy Melee+Shotgun to the head. Kills just about everything (Gold) apart from Brutes etc. and with those I'll sit back (infront of my teammates) and shotgun it.
People just need to avoid meleeing in smoke or against something cloaked. =P
I hate the removal of lock for melee and powers so much..

I have to say however that my build has thus far always ignored Carnage, so it IS a melee centric build I am playing.
Then again, I don't really die that often and in a good team that does it's share of killing priority threats I don't really die at all, in gold. And that is even now when the Rage boni aren't actually being granted as they should, so once that is fixed, I expect my survival only to increase.
Can't really comment on the other side of the medal as I haven't played with a lot other Kroguards at all, so I don't really know how the majority is playing them, possibly leading to this current sentiment.

If you can't perform the strategy without going down every wave, we're not going to bother wasting our time reviving you so you can die again 5 seconds later.I have no issue with melee Kroguards if they know what they're doing.

I can solo two primes and some fodder on my korguard, since rage is broken my melee isnt that strong so it takes awhile but I can easily do it with no fear of dying. At the same time though I was in a silver match with 3 kroguard on my GI and they seemed to die multiple times every wave. Not sure why people find it difficult to heavy melee x2 > charge > repeat, with high enough power regen that's all you need really.

What else are you supposed to do? He's too big to crouch in cover.
His manuevering is too slow to do midrange combat (slow turnaround and no rolling)
He's got no range powers other than Carnage (and if you build for carnage, you're wasting two abilities)
Sniping with Krogans on any class is just silly
If you don't build melee, you get a broken class.
OP, you did not think this through.

Ya most Kroguards I see do the classic Novaguard closer, but, instead of nova, they hit everything with their heads and/or guns. Lots of shotguns too. Had one last night on FBWGG who just kept charging everything in the control room. He went down at least twice every wave so my buddy and I decided to stop reviving him.

Nor should you have to rez a bad vanguard. I usually ask for a get out jail free card if it isnt a terrible spot, but as mentioned, if it my mistake, it is my job to get out of it. I will flat out apologize when it happens to me and tell people not to try and rez, then make sure I finish the round strong.

On Silver? I almost have to TRY and die. It must be folks that just dont know how to play it. When I get my buddy on (he plays a novaguard) we stick close and literally tear up the waves in chaotic and immense fun. I lead the charge, he is right behind me and it is just glorious. And when we get a biotic to set up blue bombs? It makes me nipples hard

Thing is you dont have to build for melee to have solid melee. I think the strength of the class is not the melee, but the survivability. As mentioned a couple posts earlier, there are few fights that I cant live through. Might take me awhile to win it, but to me the key to the class is the tank bullet sponge more then the melee (although I do feel that melee needs to be in the chains of attack).

You can just grab a shotgun, build yourself for weapon synergy and treat charge mostly as the way of transportation and refilling your shield. Who needs to roll if you can just sling yourself in the face of enemy and be as good as new, and stagger him and his buddies. I personally find it the best way to play Vanguard, more like ME2 Vanguard, instead of ridiculous charge/nova spam.Khirna wrote...

Yeah on silver, I kept having to bail them out or solo waves. two of them ended with under 20k points. Only one of them seemed to be power spamming, which I think was the problem. And I know one had both a widow and a revenant equipped..

It's not hard considering they're highlighted in a nice, bright blue outline if you're looking near them, and even if not if you're paying attention you'll see them charge across the map into/near a building, and then shortly after be downed (when you can see the symbol from anywhere on the map).
