This.  I thought it was very clever that, at the end of the trilogy, we're left here on Earth looking out at the stars and wondering what we'll find - just as we were right at the start when it was all new to us.  I think it's really disappointing that so many BioWare fans need everything spoon fed to them.

Wait a sec... there were fleets of operational ships in orbit around earth in every ending. The final scene was on a different planet. Maybe you need to make sure you actually understand what happened before being condescending towards those that do.

"We" as in "we, the audience", genius.

We, the audience coulkd have done that without paying €200- €300, and given the ending I wish I had.

People like to think. They don't like to have to guess and make stuff up to finish the story. That's the job of the author. If you find what we got satisfying then where do you draw the line between it and the entire trilogy being presented as "Stuff happened"?

Just as Return of the Jedi finished with the defeat of the Empire and the nub nub song, Shepard's story of resisting the Reapers is finished at the deployment of the Catalyst.  The task of rebuilding the galaxy is not the same story, any more than ROTJ was somehow unsatisfying because we didn't see how the galaxy far, far away was rebuilt without the Empire.

BioWare's logic for the ending:
- Story was ****: You don't understand it, it's art.
- Too lazy to finish it: It's open for speculation.

I wonder what is going on inside the heads of Casey and Walters... Do they know how much this makes no sense?

I just don't care anymore about the ending or Mass Effect mainly because I'm sick of the fustration and disapointment. I'm getting stuck into the lore of Dues EX HR. And no that wasn't a joke about the ending.

The difference being that ROTJ did not break the narrative coherence of the whole story and some peoples sense of dis-belief in the universe he created. Even George Lucas knew how to write an ending that did not do that, Why? beacuse you get what happens here, people picking apart the other things that don't make sense in your Epic, It's Writing 101.

Given the situation at the moment I will be surprised if we see a future game for a long time, their attitude towards the fanbase as well won't help them with new products.

I'd say the attitude towards bioware won't help as well. Both sides might be at fault which might ultimately destroy the ME universe. Which is a shame.

Cetainly but if they had moved smarter/quicker the rage could have been avoided/deminished. I got Hearts of Iron 3 when it came out, like all Paradox games it was buggy. Some were major How the hell did they release this bugs. The forums went mad and within 24 hours the project lead was on saying yes there are bugs we know this and we will deal with them and work through the problems with you the fans, But we just finished the project and we're all taking a few weeks off but we are listening. And that was enough to calm the anger and the fans helped fix the game.

At this point I agree that the continuation of ME is in doubt, but the ending for me left me feeling like I don't care about the universe anymore.

I've never heard of Hearts of Iron 3, but its the same situation i have with most bethesda games. It's a process. Sometimes you have to be patient. I went dark before the game came out. I didnt read anything till I beat it. I really liked the ending and was caught off guard by the response from everyone else. I'm sure Bioware was too. I'm curious to see what this extended cut will include.

They may have been caught out but the tone of the responses from them has been at best passive agressive at worst straight out trolling the fanbase. If they had engaged quicker they could have reduced the anger just look what happened after the Pac interviews. The problem now is that the at least a chunk of the basse is and maybe longterm against the game. and I don't think the ME universe can recover from that.

I'm not really aware how they trolled anyone. I saw pax. i didnt really see anythign crazy about Pax. They got asked cupcake questions. No pun intended. I think the base has handled it worse than Bioware. Bioware released a free DLC a awhile back and are working on a another free one to help those who needed more closure. I'm not sure what else they can do. Also this chunk of this base, in my opinion, isnt as significant as it's made out it to be.

Well, the CRPG fanbase tolerates (indeed celebrates) stylistic errors that most other media I know of have moved past: plodding expository monologue, tell don't show, characters with no arc, etc etc.  FWIW I think the ending of ME3 was awesome and thought-provoking.

You don't think that Email or the artistic vision was less then an ideal way of handling us? I didn't mean the Pax caused trouble in fact the opposite the actually talked to the fans and explained more, that helped calm the anger on the boards, my point is if they had done more of this would probably wouldn't be in this situation, As to the free DLC so far all of it has been Mutliplayer, I haven't touched it or downloaded the free stuff at wouldn't be playing it.I just edited the save to give me the EMS that they promised wouldn't need Multiplayer

Please come prepared to argue and spell when you start being condescending to people, you just make yourself look worse when you dont know what people are talking about.  And good for you? then why are you here arguing and talking down to people who hate it?

You're indoctrinated, listen to yourself.
You're in the minority of gamers who like the ending and defend Bioware, you're trailing on the borders of a troll.

The Chaos of this situation where the majority of fans are revolting against Bioware, look at it, it's  so perfect.

And yet "we" as Shepard weren't actually on Earth at the start, were we?  Only the audience were.

I was speaking from the perspective of we, the audience.  I thought that was clear given that we, as in you and me and everybody talking in this thread - you know, we - are actually the fans and do not live in the Mass Effect universe.

Obviously you didn't get it.  So I clarified.  And got in response a snippy comment about how ignorant I am.  So you'll excuse me for not being exactly all sweetness and light to you, but I really can't be expected to explain it a third time, right?

Never understood this hatred for speculation.

Mordin, one of the better loved characters, in Mass Effect owes everything he is to speculation.

His entire thought process is about speculating until "theory fits evidence".

But apparently, many people now hate having to "think" about things... just want to be told the story outright.

How many Epic series end (and I should specify, end well regarded) by leaving everything open and closing off none plotlines or finishing the stories of its characters.

The end of RotJ left us knowing exactly what situation all the main characters were in and addressed all the main questions about the state of the galaxy right now. What we got was the equivalent of RotJ ending at the minute the Millenium Falcon fired in the middle of the Death Star.

Shepard's story is finished.  (Defeated the Reapers.)

What character arcs would you say were left unfinished?
