- Asaris have a wee chuckle to themselves when they see Phantoms.

- Drells - and now Justicars - apply an instant reave, meaning anyone just has to connect with a biotic ability to blow her up. Simples.

- Salarians energy-drain and headshot - their engineers can also keep her completely occupied if putting a decoy near her while she takes cover.

- Turians can either revenant her to death, or spam overload - or else, trigger the drell/asari biotic.

- Vanguards have her for breakfast - Humans stagger, Krogans slap.

- Human engineers can also overload her to death. HumAdepts can shoot her barrier down and get some singularity going. HumSoldiers, don't play them enough. Infiltrators cloak.

- Batarians, well, a number of Batarians I've seen shove a ballistic blade into a Phantom's face - or a net - and then falcon punch them. Instant death.

This is all on gold. Phantoms are far from OP. All you have to do, is be careful and aware.

If you feel Phantoms are fine thats great. But please stop saying that they are squishy. They have the highest non-boss(Atlas/Banshee/Prime) shield/barrier in the game. They have the same health as Centerians, Assalt troopers, and Engies. Add to that their dodges, recharge mode, small hitbox, and fast movement speed make they highly resistant to powers and bullets. If you want a squishy unit, talk about Nemesis who have low shields and low health. Phantoms are not squishy.

Phantoms are the only thing that Cerberus has to force the majority players to stick together. No one should be saying their handcannon is weak, it can take down any character in seconds. I say leave it as is.

seriously, phantoms are the only thing that make Cerberus a challenge on gold. You can fix the bugs like them continuing to shoot while they're lying on the ground or frozen, but other than that, it's completely fine.

Personally, I think everyone should be required to complete SP on Insanity before playing Gold on mp. Flame on I guess...

I can kill a whole entire wave of waves 1-2 of Gold in less than 20 seconds. Solo.

Yeah I am weak, but being able to kill everything instantly does not balance that out very well.



The Phantom's can kill an entire team of people in less than 15 seconds too, just from shooting their cannon while people try to revive another guy. (While the Phantom is out of the power lock on range...)



That's why people who fall should give tips about the situation to whoever will come for the rescue. That's why the rescuer should look at the right botton of the screen to know what killed his partner, before going there.

That's the idea of the phantom, she is a real treat. She can take out a whole squad IF you don't cover your flanks or don't stay together. If you do, she become just a annoyance.

or carry a SMG like Tempest with heat sink. It can lock the phantom, so she can't shoot, cloak or hide.

I don't find them really that much overpowered, but it sucks when whole team is down and you get swarmed by phantoms. It's pretty much useless to use medigel when 4 phantoms (on gold) are just waiting to kill you again as soon as you get up.

I thought that I was the only one who agreed with OP. I mean, if one gets up to you and kills you and instakills your team mate right next to you (happened to me the other day) then that was you being very unobservant, and the blame rests entirely on you. However, your shields seeming to evaporate to an invisible opponent who is across the map should only be acreditted to a sniper and the only snipers in game, don't have invisiblity.

I'm sorry, but phantoms are not difficult (only slightly so on Gold). Besides Gold is supposed to be a challenge. If you have one person on your team capable of stasis or simply massive single shot damage with accuracy (Sniper or Claymoore/GPS) then your good to go.

If you have a Black Widow on your team it's just cloak, shoot - which puts them in a predictable animation for loosing all barrier - then head-shot again while in the animation.

You're being a bit elitist in this thread, imo. Yes gold, or any game for that matter, can be dominated by a compitent team in a voice program or whatever have you. The point is however, that Phantom palm-cannon fire is just ridiculous. Perhaps they could be buffed in health for a reduction in the rate of fire of the gun or slightly reduced damage, because I mean seriously 1 shot from that gun is generally shields removed and 2 shots is downed. This would be fine if only they couldn't snipe from ridiculous angles WHILE spinning and jumping around...Then again you can always use statis, but there's no guarantees you'll have the Asari unless it's a pre-determined team on a pre-determined enemy mission.

More importantly, Diablo 3 next month so really who cares about Phantoms.

Phantoms have never been a problem with me...in fact, they're pretty pathetic.The only time when I feel in danger from one is if it's close enough for an insta-kill. That's about it though.

Get a Batarian soldier with max blades that explode and some fitness towards melee and you can solo phantoms easily. Blades, heavy melee, blades and heavy melee to finish them. That simple.

I think they should have the ability to cloak anytime like the geth hunter. Nothing like an invisible phantom comin from behind for the surprise instant kill FTW while the one getting killed is like WTF

Phantom Buddha-Palm-Attack is OP - by comparison to all other enemy's ranged attacks.

Easily the deadliest ranged attack in game.

And the phantom also has an insta-kill attack in melee range.

No other unit in the game is as deadly.
Not the Atlas, not the Prime, not the Banshee.

Even 'mass marauders' doesn't burn through your shields/health as fast as a single phantom mid-attack.

The range is also rather large on buddha-palm, and since it isn't as visible as other ranged attacks (eg. marauder's tracers), you don't know which way to duck - so you usually take more damage (than from other ranged units) before finding proper cover.


That said, phantom's aren't all that bad.
Just have to manage them properly.

The thing is more accurate than Nemesis sniper shots, shoots once every .8 seconds, and takes away 1 whole shield gate of health every shot.

If that is not OP, then you must have a Black Widow Saber Claymore XXX... a double cyclonic mod X and full fitness.

Don't say "Oh Krogan Vanguards take 5 shots..." nobody uses them on Gold public, unless they are garbage.


By the same token, the only thing making Cerberus even remotely challenging on Gold is the Phantoms.

It's a game. Relax and enjoy yourself rather than pull your hair out because you're having difficulties with the Phantoms. We all have struggled against Phantoms. One person does not a match make -- it's a team-based game in which all four players need to be aware of what's going on around them.

Let me start off by saying that just because an enemy has a counter, it should not immediately be considered balanced. The Phantom is a good example of this. Numerous counters have been listed off, some of which I agree with, and some of which make me think the poster is downright trolling. Yes, the Asari Adept has Stasis. No, I do just happen to have an Asari Adept with me in every single gold match I play.

Phantoms are close range combatants who use a sword. Fine. Insta-kill? I hate this and don't fully agree with it (mostly due to lag purposes) but we'll let that go for now. Their damage reduction? Fine. Invisibility? Fine. My issue?

The rapid fire death machine of horror and nightmares we call a palm blaster.

For what conceivable purpose does that thing shoot as fast as it does while dealing as much damage as it does? Not only can a single Phantom shoot you 3 times with 600% accuracy and kill you before you were able to get out of the way, but if 2 Phantoms are doing this to you, you might as well offer yourself as a sacrifice to the great Phantom Gods right there.

The biggest issue with the Phantom is that it requires specific powers to deal with. Being nimble and damaging as all hell is fine, even with their ludicrously high barrier value. The fact that only three specific powers contain them reliably makes having those classes a must in any gold endeavor where phantoms might turn up. With enemies like Banshees or Hunters, most classes can combat them without having to resort to Stasis Bubble or Decoy type shennanigans, even if its not optimal. Below Gold, their gun damage could be toned down a touch, but Gold they are just ridiculous unless you bring the right race/class person to deal with them. I mean, they can practically run straight at someone and instagib them before the person can drop them, which is rough for any class reliant on guns. Banshees and Atlases are at least easily spotted and give descent visual cues to clue you in on when to dodge, but Phantoms just randomly pew pew you for absurd damage with no descent visual clue on when it is ok to pop up and return shots.

I find it hilarious that people here are whining about the Phantoms. Of course they are infuriating. They are supposed to be -- I'm betting the majority of you have not played against Cerberus on Gold (or beaten them).

Instead of individualizing the horrors of the Phantoms, start thinking as a collective -- 'what can *we* do to ensure that we're protected against so-and-so?'
