Something I always found really really weird about Draogn age 2 was the characters' hands

examples:

So that's one of the things I'd like to see changed in DA3

Please feel free to post hand screenshots if you find them!

That is legitimately frightening.

But still a step up from the giant DA:O hands.

I noticed the same thing in Mass Effect 3. I wonder what the problem is.

I'd prefer something like KoA where the hands are slightly larger than they should be to these. Larger hands = easier to make good looking?

Just make the weapons smaller. Small weapons are not the devil.

Ouch, yes, those skeleton hands....And the overly narrow shoulders (especially in ME3).
The terrible arms.
In Mass Effect 3,the entire female torso was out of proportion imo :D ...
And the whole rack.FemShep ran as if she had to hold a watermelon between her thighs.

I dunno...ME1 FemShep looked quite all right,I suppose.Or did she?:)
She was still better than in ME3,though.

The devs seemed to try and make them more realistically shaped and detailed.

Obviously, they messed up and now we're left with Cryptkeeper hands on young Bethany.

Isabela's didn't seem that bad, but then again I didn't see them as much or as close as I did Bethany's when she placed her hand on her face.

From someone who started playing RPG's with pencil and paper, long before they became available on computers, I am much more lenient on graphics. When I first played SSI's Pool of Radiance in 1988, with an EGA monitor, I was just happy to have a representation of characters and opponents on the screen, that moved about on their own when required.

Graphics and presentation of crpgs obviously improved over the years. And it seems that the closer that the graphics came to depicting people on screen  to real life models, the more critical the audience seems to be. Hands (and feet) are very hard to render perfectly, in any form of art. Every try to draw them?

Improved graphics and cinematics obviously are nice eye candy. For those like myself, who consider ourselves to be core RP gamers, they are nice, but not essential to a game. I prefer a well written story, game mechanics that are balanced and challenging, interesting npc's to interact with, and when combat is called for, a chance to compete against a competent AI that we can use our strategic and tactical skills against. Graphics and animations are secondary to these necessitites.

And with improved computer programming and hardware technology, graphics, animations and cinematics will improve. But, if RPG designers put more emphasis on this, instead of what is the core of an RPG game, it will lose appeal to their core audience, that was with them back when the computer gaming industry was just taking off. You would think they can do both at the same time, maintain RP elements, and make the game look great, But, if they have to make a choice in quality, between visuals and story, I certainly hope that they error on the side of giving more time to the story elements of the game.

I agree, the hands are terrible.

If they're that hard to animate, maybe everyone should stick to wearing gloves.

Yes, I've drawn hands. My hands look about the same as the rest of the body. If all of Bethany or Isabela looked like that, I'd doubt we'd complain about the hands specifically.

As is, most of the character model looks good while the hands look bizarre and out of place.

Ahhhh yes......the hands.....can you imagine waking up in bed, a gentle hand caresses your shoulder to stir you,  looking back to see what it is then you're sudenly hit with a mumified horror hand & then you're running away screaming threw the streets naked

If your programmers can't figure out how to render hands; well i'd ponder why they're still employed; but just put freaking gloves on em or not show them up close ever, this is reeeaaaally obvious stuff bioware, c'mon

The funny thing is, that's actually a fairly common pose in Bioware games.

EDI's constantly standing that way in ME3.

Yeah, that's definitely got to go. Give the girls all gloves or something. ANYTHING but the witch-hands.

There's an easy fix for this, all they have to do is give the hands their own textures, that way the quality wont be dependent on the resolution of the body texture.

I like to think she used some of the paint from the Dalish blood writing ritual.
What? Sister wasn't known for her good judgement, and you don't see anyone else painting their nails in the game. Image IPB
