I have no source for this, but perhaps a developer can clarify, but apparently hands are one of the hardest things to create graphically in video games, movies etc.

Who knew?

But Malcolm's Honor is always photobombing with her distractingly detailed physique, even during tender, private, non-combat moments. XD  One of the first mods I installed was a "hide weapons out of combat mod."  XD

Ahahah.... photobombing weapons. This is seriously the best thread ever. XD

If you're just talking about natural movement, I can see how that's possible. Since human hands are so adept at manipulation, trying to accurately reproduce that without using some form of motion capture is probably quite challenging.

As far as just graphically, I don't see how that would apply here, since we're mainly just talking about the skin that is on the hands. I've seen other games where the hands look perfectly fine and normal, and the characters still gesture, hold objects, and so forth. The scary hands in DA2 aren't even uniform, as has been pointed out with Anders's hands.

However, hands being difficult to create does explain why a lot of animation features characters with three fingers and a thumb.

As another plus to having more resources and time, we might have been able to see Fenris's hands had circumstances permitted. There is one scene where he gestures and you can see the markings on his palm, I assume going onto each of his fingers. So, the whole markings + touching Hawke goes to a new level when considering how sensitive hands are.

You gotta love the cut scenes where naked Andraste is right in the center of the screen, where you can't possibly miss it.

At least with the Isabella sex scene, she and Hawke toss her weapons to the side. Many times though, people with staves and greatswords sit down and their weapon stabs the chair/bed. Perhaps with the hide helmet option in DA2, Bioware can also add a hide weapon outside of combat option too?

As much as I really, really love Anders' kiss/romance scenes, there's one pose that I almost never fraps.  Here it is, in all its finger-breaking, dubious glory.

Oh, dear god Anders.  Fingers don't bend that way. XD

i think thats just a weird moment when his hand is brushing her hair, but at least the skin looks good. :blush:

So if you get'n steamy with someone while wearing Malchom's honor, would it count as a three-sum?

Also: i have to agree that malchom's honor's ****** photobombs the hell out of every cut scene, seen that thing more times then hawke's & the female warden's ******

So hands they can't do, ****** they do marvelously, really bioware? reeeaaaaaaally??

Wow, it really looks like he doesn't have any bones in his fingers. Like it's just a wobbly dough-boy hand and it's just resting there. Image IPB

This thread is freaking funny. Which would be good, but I just had surgery and it hurts to laugh! But, yes, the hands in DA:O and DA2 are weird to scary! I agree about the weapons too. What WAS Papa Hawke thinking?

So basically what your saying is go from looking like having leather gloves on the person(s) hand to ACTUALLY having the person where leather gloves. :blink:

I'd rather they start implementing sheaths and other assorted features.

Athenril keeps her weapons in a sheath when you first meet her in the prologue.

No reason why Bioware can't implemented sheaths for daggers and longswords. Axes and Maces could be resigned to just hanging from the belt, though there are sheaths for the bladed portion of an axe.

Bows can stay on the back as far as I'm concerned.

Not sure how Greatswords should be handled. Staves should just be used as walking sticks outside of battle.

Even if the sheath for longswords, daggers, and axes morphed the weapon into a generic shape outside of battle -- where upon entering battle it regained its original design -- that'd be enough for me.

I can't believe people explain about these tiny aesthetic things when there are greater aesthetic issues like floating weapons, and the female running animation which made me refuse to play the game for a year.

Let's talk about something tiny every once and a while Image IPB.

When a thread is titled "The Hands" there's a good chance it will be about... wait for it... hands. Unless you're in a Game of Thrones forum in which case it's probably about Hands. The probability that's it's about floating weapons is minimal.

@sjpelkessjpeler: I don't find Anders's fingers so strange. It's a legit pianist position... which is weird in context, I'll give you that ("and now, I'm gonna trill your skull, my love")

Image IPB Hawke's face isn't a piano right? Allthough a massage like that doesn't seem like punishment to me Image IPB.

But I'm sorry if I offended you here, guessing you play the piano.Image IPB

Ah yes, there's the massage. B)

And you didn't offend me at all :). I was just surprised people would think they're wobbly while it's a position designed to have more strength and hit the keys harder (and now my mind's in the gutter so, so badly)

True. Works for playing the cello too. Pretty sure I've read something about Anders playing the lute (badly).

Ah, papa Hawkes marvelous naked-woman-staff, yes, it tends to show up in scenes in the most awkward ways! ^^;;

I'm so there with you guys on the problems with the zombie hands. I understand that they're difficult to get right, but they can be quite the mood breaker sometimes. ;) I wonder if it's possible to make them look prettier, or at least less, well, dead and dry? ^^;;
