At Pax a few weeks ago, M-Law showed us a highlighted area of Thedas' map (at 5:15) that included Fereldan, Orlais, the Free marches, Nevarra, and even the southern tips of Antiva and the Tevinter Imperium. If the team is able to pull that off, we will be hitting the highlights of some of these countries.
This means we should get a pretty delicious visual display of some of the best environments Thedas has to offer.
I'm personally hoping for the interior of the Grand Cathedral in Val Royeaux, which should be large, lavish, colorful, and exceptionally different from the Chantries we saw in Kirkwall, Lothering, or Redcliffe.

I want an in-depth look at the Tevinter Imperium. It's much more interesting to me than Orlais as Orais just seems like 18th-19th Century France mixed with Vatican CIty. The Tevinter Imperium is very different from just about every other fantasy setting. Mages rule, slavery is legal and common, "dark" magic is institutional, etc. It could make for a remarkably interesting setting no matter what moral stance you would take.

Way too much color in those pics.

Your FACE, GC!
DAII was bland because Kirkwall was bland and we never left Kirkwall. It wasn't because the devs just love bland.

Desert is probably out of the question but it's my favorite type of environment -- especially when an oasis is involved. Besides that I like the rocky hill/Barrow Downs places like The Reach in Skyrim.

Just concentrating on the pictures of the cathedral here.
Like the first one: can be used in DA3 as the Cathedral.
Do not like the stained glass windows in pictures 2 and 3. They are to modern for the setting. Allthough the shape of the windows themselves are great (gothic I think).
As for the last picture: The altar and the stairs leading to it are great but again the painting on the walls and cieling is to modern for the medieval setting.
edit: oh and then of course the lighting: needs a lot of BIG chandeliers with burning candles, and of course candles on the walls/pillars.

If we are going to Orlais, then I would hope Val Royeaux looks something like this.

WOW.
These are some amazing ideas!
I'd personally be happy with all of these.
Inside a beastie could actually be fun... like Lord Jabu-Jabu but better?
I agree with you about the Fade, Maria Caliban. I'll have to check the game out and see what you're talking about.
That example of a palace garden in Orlais... breathtaking.
And I would looooove to see the Dales and experience more about the old elven culture. I'm sure the Veil is incredibly thin in some of those places.

Do we actually know anything about Nevarra? Could it be desert-y?
I know the Anderfells are pretty barren... but that's not the same thing and we won't get there this time around. Orlais is large enough to support a few different climates, I'm sure.

And I'm really curious about the university in Orlais.
It's supposed to be the biggest in Thedas.
A lot of things can start from there since the teachers/professors seem to be pretty liberal in their thinking concerning beliefs.

I'd love to see some big grand palaces and ball rooms (if we do indeed get a masquerade ball.) I'd also like the town/city(s) to be vastly different, perhaps even drastically changes from day to night (so during the day you might have market stalls and the general bustle of people, the by night it changes to drunken debauchery in the streets, the glow of lanterns etc.) Forest areas, lush green environments and proper shore side areas wouldn't go amiss either.

I think we're in colour overload after Kirkwall lol.
There should be some dark, washed out depressing places too, places that look rotten and desolate because they would feel even more poignant next to the rich colourful areas, which was something Darktown was severely lacking. I'd want the poorer and dangerous areas to reflect as such.

I'm a fan of contrast between light and dark, as in the chandeliers and ceiling in sjpelkessjpeler's pic. Not so much between warm and cool, as it Atakum's pic.

this is a medieval "chandelier"
Missing the candles here though.

Very plain looking. But accurate I gues. A combination between my first and this one for the lavish bling factor I could make a shut eye just for the "eye candy"

Rather amusing that they were showing off art for the different cathedrals, considering how many battles took place within a cathedral in DA2. That just seemed a bit odd to me, especially when Isabella had a showdown with the guy that was supposed to dual her, ended up inside the Chantry temple.
I hope in DA3, the Templar guards are a bit more competant, and can keep the fighting inside of the Chantry down to a minimum.

The painting in my picture isn't accurate for the time accuracy. (just like the chandeliers for that matter).
The colours as you see them could be implemented though. And thank you for having the same view about it.

Allthough a lot less colourfull then the OP's stained glass
here's a medieval one:
http://t2.gstatic.co...feN6E3FvWOSwpCw
Still has colour and nice symbols that are not related to a specific religion.

It's Orlesian.
The whole thing needs to be lavish and over the top colorful. I don't need it game-wide, but I need it in Orlais!
