Speaking of Nevarra, I'd quite like to see the Silent Plains. I think they're there. I'm not sure what it would look like though, but it'd probably be interesting and create one hell of an atmosphere with a lasting impression. It would also be a good place to tie in whatever secret thing the Wardens are up to, or if the consequences of Legacy will have a lasting impact.

Been reading about the silent plains. The battle against Dumat took place there and it seems to be a big wasteland. Although the first blight happened a long time before the Dragon Age so it might have recovered over time. Darkspawn still linger there and the problem is there is no information about the time span tainted lands need to recover.

Worth looking into further I think Image IPB.

Oh,thanks for posting this, sjpelke, that is such an intriguing place...I really hope we get to visit.
So,for all those who mentioned Stalker (minus the guns and trucks hehe) as an inspiration for an atmosphere for desolation (I remember Maria C. did in one of the threads, maybe this one-I forget),The SiIent Plains is the place to look.More pics coming up....

Wow,Das Tentakel, great find! That would be more in line with the style what most of us here would associate with nevarran tombs.
@sjpelkessjpeler : yep, that pic in the Val Royeaux article on the DA Wiki appears to be from The Dawn of The Seeker.I think Tentakel mentioned earlier on this thread how...well,uncharacteristic that looks for those pesky Orlesians...
Really Rue,considered me intrigued with the SIlent Plains.

Well, in addition to such tombs, it might be conceivable that these might be surrounded by low walls, and with 'towers' marking their location.

In 'my' corner of the Roman Empire, wealthy people constructed surface monuments that glorified the dead, their profession and their accomplishments.

Here's a reconstruction drawing, representing some graves outside Noviomagus, modern Nijmegen:

Image IPB

One of those monuments actually survived, near Trier in Germany. It is called the 'Igeler Säule', or Pillar of Igel.
Originally these monuments were also painted. There is a replica in the museum in Trier:

Image IPB

In reality, I suspect the colours would have been a bit more varied and vivid, and the actual sculptured reliefs would still have been intact, but you get the idea.
Here's a picture of the eroded and damaged original:

Image IPB

It's biiiiiiig. It was made for two wealthy textile merchants, brothers.

These monuments would flank the roads leading to cities. So, we might get an idea of how Nevarran tombs *might* look like, without going for an Egyptian or other well-known style. Again, it's not going to be like this, but hey, one can dream:

As you approach the red-and-white double walls of Nevarra city, carved and painted monumental funerary  towers appear right and left. Behind them are large tombs with pyramidal roofs. Inside the tombs are the carved and painted sarcophagi of prominent Nevarrans. The towerlike funerary monuments proclaim and illustrate the glory of dragonslayers, military commanders, wealthy merchants.

Some tombs have fallen into disrepair, their families having become extinct or moved away. In the dark crypts, things stir and await the setting of the bright Nevarran sun...;)

@Das Tentakel : those monuments and their history are fascinating. And you are so right-again-about how "fittingly nondescript" they look - in terms of not being THAT distinctive in style so as not to evoke further comparisons with Egypt and such.

As I read your little "prologue" to entering Nevarra, and reached the part with the dark crypts, foreshadowing a Call of Cthulhu-like scenario,I skipped a breath...
Thank the Maker and the upcoming Bank Holiday lull,we were allowed to go home very early today, and nobody saw me shivering in fear:PI would not have survived that.

I don't know if anyone else has said this but I would love the chance to explore Par Vollen, bringing the fantasy Genre to a more tropical setting would be fantastic in my opinion. I also would love to learn more about the Qunari and the Fex. The contrast to Fereldan and the Free Marches would be refreshing.

A little addition to dark, grimm, desolate places like Silent Plains.

This could fit in combination with what @Begemotka posted:

I would really like to see Seheron, believe it or not. Sounds like it would be almost like the Caribbean. I think the others would be Orlais, Tevinter, Nevara, and Antiva. No Free Marches...

@sjpelkessjpeler : I love those images you posted for the Silent Plains. The contrast...The second one is especially eerie...I would scare myself to death, wandering The Plains at night.

@Dakota Strider : Ooooooooo...that is simply breathtaking.Thank you for those glorious pics,Dakota:)
Such variety...astounding.
Are you from South or North Dakota?
As for tourists :innocent: How harsh winters are we talking about here?

@Lady Listra : Oh,yes,Seheron....another place we need to look up. Do you have any particular place in mind for inspiration?

From South Dakota. Even I have limits to how much cold I can take.

All of those scenes are from SoDak.  NoDak may have similar scenes, except the last few.  They do not have a Bare Butt monument...err Bear Butte (that big rock sticking out of the middle of the plains).

Oh,and you have Mt Rushmore, the Badlands and Deadwood too...not to mention all those national parks...Envy is not really a virtue, but I will risk it anyway-I am jealous.
I will  definitely stop in SDak if I ever get the chance to see any of the USA (but will make sure I leave before the winter:))).

PS.  Bare Butt Monument:lol:It just comes kinda naturally,innit... It is a bit Bart Simpsonish, though:)

I was making that joke..LONG before the Simpsons (sad to say, many gamers here were not alive when the Simpsons started)

And this is to scare away the snowbirds.

Btw, if anyone wants to see a really great example of western SoDak scenery, the 1990 movie "Dances with Wolves" was filmed there,  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dances_with_Wolves

I am guessing tour guides / scouts have a hard time taking tourists there, for fear of hearing things like :
"Wait..we are going to see a bare butt?" :OChildish,I know....

That snow... well, that IS snow :oLooks like if we encounter anything like this in DA3,we are going to need griffons.
(hint,hint Bioware).
And thanks for the info about Dances with Wolves,I had no idea it was filmed in your home state.
I loved that movie - I was 10 years old then, and Kevin Costner was the big <3 at the time,so I went to see it.Ended up loving the movie.Kevin, not so much, but that is irrelevant:) So yep,I remember the scenery in that movie..makes you want to go stridin`,like Aragorn:)

Oh, so much beautiful in this thread. So many great potential environments I'd Love to see implemented in game. But I must confess, I'm afraid to hope for such wonders.

I just hope we get to really see Tevinter in addition to Orlais. Not just one urban setting.

We will see I guess......

According to the worldmap Val Royeaux is near a river or maybe even build in a river delta.

Been thinking about that and this is what the environment could look like:

 http://t3.gstatic.co...zcwy9hWC9fWkZQ  http://t2.gstatic.co...RCpIUziKQRqe1Yv
the river could fall into the Waking Sea like              Or a combination of forest and grassland
this surrounded by forest

If Val Royeaux is indeed build in the river delta this could mean that the city will be full of fountains and waterchannels above ground because of the unlimited water supply.

How lavish one of the biggest cities of Thedas could look like.......................Image IPB

Val Royeaux is build next to a river or maybe in the delta of one according to the map of Orlais.

I can imagine that underneath Val Royeaux are big sewers where the poor, the fugetives, thieves and thugs
have their hide outs Image IPB if the city is build next to the river.

Picture something like this maybe:

A sewer system that connects everything in town and grands acces to all the different
sections of the city. All the quests that could take place there...........Image IPB

Orlais - oh so shiny above ground, shady types underneath...out of sight, out of mind.
Methinks these sewers are also home to all sorts of undercover,"la resistance" folks.:o

Bioware could give us sewer rat / tunnelling quests aplenty, but please, please leave out the giant rats:)

Seheron has jungles, doesn't it, and various islands. It got me thinking of Southeast Asia. The nature, not so much the architecture (I have no idea what that would look like).

Got a great tip for even grander 'more Orlesian style' sewers from Das Tentakel.

Here they come Image IPB:

That, I think, would be Seheron. I think that the Quinari might have some place like Mecca on Par Vollen.
