So here are a bunch of castles and environments that would be suited to Orlais (especially since they're all French lol.)

And this last one reminds me a lot of Chateau Haine and it's surrounding grounds from the MotA DA2 dlc:

@LolaLei

Orlais, probably the next destination for 'the next thing'...............Smelly cheeses and 'french style'
environments and..accents (but tastefull ones, I'm sure Posted Image).

Some suggestions how things in the 'environmental area' could look like:

Posted Image

A little summerhouse by the lake..........
Posted Image

Town in the distance in the more mountainous area.........
Posted Image

Shopping for needed supplies................

Posted Image

Imperial higway crossing a river................
Posted Image

Getting to a town before reaching Val Royeaux......

I wonder what sorts of surrounding areas will be lurking around outside Orlais?

My family and I are about to start a journey, and thought that the route we are taking may make for a good setting for a game, maybe even DA3.

First we depart the comforts of home, leaving civilization behind us:
http://ts2.mm.bing.n...f32aa830ab6ee3c
Human settlements start to thin out as we head northwest across the central plains:
http://ts3.mm.bing.n...b68daa4eba5a79 http://ts4.mm.bing.n...fccf3cf41d8123f
We encounter both the beauty and perils of nature:
http://ts4.mm.bing.n...9542a9de6124216
Reaching a great river, we raft down it for several hours until we find a place to continue our journey:
Posted Image
http://ts2.mm.bing.n...b0653af0fac5f4  http://ts3.mm.bing.n...47a62816050d06d

Back on land, we come across a more hostile landscape, where its ancient inhabitants watch us with unknown intent:
http://ts3.mm.bing.n...6f5be3e29285d8c http://ts3.mm.bing.n...5884820a4ca9853 http://ts3.mm.bing.n...e3054b8a9a8c85  http://ts2.mm.bing.n...5796e8f81892485
Leaving the wasteland behind us, we reach the dark mountains
http://ts3.mm.bing.n...90c65abf845655 http://ts4.mm.bing.n...cf3ac58458fc535
We find lodging in a wild frontier town:
http://ts4.mm.bing.n...392455d8fd40f3b
We go exploring
http://ts4.mm.bing.n...034f8037f00     http://ts4.mm.bing.n...1ce3ba712a0b523
Seek gold in the mountain streams:
http://ts3.mm.bing.n...9453a8748a9119e
"Shoot" some wild game (with cameras):
http://ts3.mm.bing.n...c095541b288de7  http://ts4.mm.bing.n...f6bf51da5c7fa1  http://ts2.mm.bing.n...fe989a49042ae73

Discover the remains of giants:
http://ts4.mm.bing.n...9eef9bf393b757b
Finally departing, we travel east, under the shadow of an ancient native sacred monument:
http://ts1.mm.bing.n...600474f9361e612

Now traversing the vast northern prairie, our "wagon" seems small in comparison:
http://ts2.mm.bing.n...dc9e55bc093955d
Its main inhabitants watch us with indifference (What do they know, that we don't?)
http://ts2.mm.bing.n...2646cedd4e96ff http://ts1.mm.bing.n...bdd688eba64fa74

Finally we reach the great northern river, which signals the return to more populated lands:
http://ts2.mm.bing.n...a83ec2e48dac9c  http://ts4.mm.bing.n...8961cfc0924e318

Thanks for indulging me.  See ya'll in a week.

Well, you know on the map in DA:O and DA2 there were areas surrounding the city etc? I'm wondering what sort of areas they will be, like forests, mountains, lakes, etc.

The inside of a giant Sky dragon's belly who eternally flies about the Dragon Age world, where a mythical medieval city is said to have rested on its back during one of its long slumbers on the earth below it. idunnolol.

And thus was conceived Thedas`s first aeroplane.....wonder what the catering is like.I hope they have nice coffee   :P

@DakotaStrider : That looks like quite an adventure. Hope you and your family have a wonderful trip and you all return safe!

Slán Beo!

@LolaLei & sjplekessjpeler : Those are amazing!   <3
Blinded by all that gloriousness,my oculus is pleading ye,no more, please no more!

Which reminds me of the absolute necessity of a masquerade ball. I am not much of a "cosplayer",but I would totally try and infiltrate disguised as a chicken.

By night.................

Absolutely amazing...graceful and majestic with an air of mystery and perhaps even danger.  The Sagrada Familia would make a great Circle Tower.  It looks like a place that was built by magic

This is grotesque architecture I'm okay with in association with Tevinter.  I can see this actually being the mage tower in Minrathous, as it's supposed to be the oldest tower in Thedas.  I picture the interior consisting of lots of gothic spires and gargoyles.  And blood magic.  Lots of blood magic here. Posted Image

I apologize for the very late reply, but I totally agree.  Indeed, the architecture looks almost organic in some places, almost like tainted areas in the Deep Roads (around the doorway of the Sagrada Familia for example)...  I could easily see a lot of mysteries hidden here...perfect for Minrathous :)

As regards Orlais itself, I would like to see Halamshiral, with its mix (I imagine) of human and elven architecture.  Perhaps this is the Winter Palace Celene loves to frequent?  I like to imagine it being sort of organic...reminiscent of a large hollowed out tree, or clearly having a "living" aspect of some sort.

The above image is Forest City by Rob Alexander, from daughterearth.com.

And below, perhaps another image of the White Spire, or Grand Cathedral? This is from http://www.kpbs.org/...eat-cathedrals/, and is Beauvais cathedral.

Is it just me or does anyone else imagine the White Spire to be quite a long, tall curvy building with lots of curly-ish looking exterior stone work?

Hell, you never know, maybe it'll look something like this:

(Points if you can guess what this is from!)

@WardenWade : those are so lovely, thank you!   <3    Halamshiral is definitely a place I am dying to see in DA3.
Well, hopefully our PC will not have to literally die to get there, but you know what I mean :P  Great find!

And thanks to both you and LolaLei for bringing up the White Spire - I am terribly curious as to what it will eventually look like!
@LolaLei : Aaawww, lovely!      The Neverending Story.....even though the book is vastly superior,it was an endearing movie, and the visuals were quite well done. I was in love with it when I saw it as a kid.
Do I get points now?       :P

I love both ideas - perhaps when we finally get to see the Spire,it will be an amalgam of both    :wizard:

Not unlike a slightly tweaked,fantasy-like version of this futuristic eco-skyscraper :

This is officially my favorite White Spire idea.  It's both awe-inspiring and a little creepy at the same time!

That's the sort of thing I was thinking of, but taller and not quite so futuristic.

Thank you!  Glad you liked the images!  I'm really looking forward to seeing (and I hope we do as well!) what environments Orlais and even the Dales have to offer.  I'd be inerested to see what remains of buildings in a purely elven style, mixed with more contemporary human settlements.  A fascinating contrast.

As to the White Spire, it sounds so imposing in Asunder.  As you and LolaLei touched on, I too am really looking forward to more about it...it should be a truly breathtaking structure you can't help but notice.  I hope we can explore inside it as we did in Ferelden.  The skyscraper image you found is just beautiful, and fits the description perfectly!

Here's some ideas for White Spire:

First off a couple of less imposing looking ones:

And now the more darker, threatening looking ones (closer to the description in Asunder maybe?)

I like this one the best:

Thank you both:) I wish I could let the architect responsible for the concept know, lol.
Let us hope that IRL we will be given more stuff like this, instead of the unlivable monstrosities we see today.
