Well yes, dark rituals in the dark deep roads surrounding Kal Sharok..........

Posted Image

The dwarves there could have some kind of shaman that leads dark rituals
that are about a new accepted religion that is a combination of their former
believe in the stone and a new one.

There can be dwarven maidens that dance around a lyrium statue while the
dwarves pay respect to their new found god Posted Image.

Somehow, I am visualising this.
They do things differently in Kal Sharok

And another candidate for the idol ;)

and alternatively we have this gentleman:blink::

I think we just left Gimli's 'comfort zone'^_^

Really really really really not at all interested in seeing dwarves depicted in that kind of way. Like, I would be very put off.

Awww, it's about the facial expressions; maori's in New Zealand do that kind of stuff to. Has to do about casting of/ repelling spirits and stuff. Nothing offending is going on here if that's what you mean Posted Image.

I'm not against providing wildly different cultures. Just don't name them after fictional societies that already fake-exist.

Dwarves are dwarves. Make a different fictional culture and name it something else.

I think something really crazy would have to happen near Kal Sharok for the dwarves to do anything that unusual. They're super practical and conservative. Like, they don't even have hardly anything to do with magic, and their religion only consists of speaking to their ancestors in the stone when they need something.

But I actually really really like the idol in the bottom picture. Except for his... *ahem*... you know.

There's a spot in Witcher 2 that is utterly gorgeous. It's a ruined elven bath and I just wanted to stay there the entire quest. It's beautiful and I'd like see DA's take on something like this. The use of light and water is wonderful. It's not a spoiler- just a photo.

Lots of awesome pictures in this thread overall but thanks for the image from Witcher 2  that's pretty stunning.  I might have to think about picking it up for the laptop or PS3.

Take it easy

Bes would actually be the kind of God worshipped by dwarves like Varric. A fun guy :D.
Come to think of it, it's not too much of a stretch he would be the kind of God celebrated by outcasts - not a Paragon he, but a dude who loves drink and life. The kind of God whose feast would bring some release from the reality of their bleak lives.
And man, would the Shaperate hate his cult...

I love the Prague Castle, it's amazing.

Also, Sanssouci in Vienna is sort of Orlesian.

The room above is known as the Voltaire Room. I thought this look very Orlesian, because it's decorated with flowers and birds, which reminded me of what Leliana told the Warden about Orlesian fashion.

Been in the prague castle years ago and in real life it's really really beautifull. Can advise anyone to go see it.

I definitely want to see some more Orlesian buildings. I'm guessing Chateau Haine was influenced by Orlesian style even though it's built near Kirkwall.(?) Ever since Leliana talked about Val Royeaux in Origins I always thought, "I want to go there."

Oh, and SNOW. I don't know how or where, but snow. A snowstorm even. Put me on top of a mountain somehow and make it snow... please?

If the dwarves in Kal Sharok went in another direction in their beliefs/culture I could imagine that only the shaman/priest would practice such things. The other dwarves would mostly be just as the dwarves in Orzammar.

But just throwing things out there. This is just based on the fact that the dwarves in Kal Sharok did 'some questionable things' to survive after they were cut of from Orzammar.

Weather cycles and a day/night cycle would do wonders for atmosphere.

I agree - I really liked being able to explore the DAII locations at night, and didn't we do it in the Leliana's Song DLC also? Anyway, I love that. But I'd love for there to be a bigger difference than just darkness and thugs. I'd like to see some shady looking people out and about and a completely different atmosphere than daytime.

Also YES to what Ericander77 said. Although "Asunder" already kind of tells us some of what's out there, but I won't spoil it for you. Posted Image

The Hradcin is cool, especially its scenic location, dominating Prague. I wouldn't even call it a castle,  it's more of a fortified citadel containing several churches, monasteries and palaces. A bit like the Kremlin or the Acropolis.

But as for Czech castles, something like Karlstejn would be nice. Unfortunately, there's no real analogy to central Europe in Thedas, Anderfels presumably being pretty darn warm. Perhaps in a more green and southern upland location, near Kal Sharok?

Posted Image

From another direction, different season:

Posted Image

The castle still has some interesting examples of medieval interior decoration bling-bling and use of colour:

Posted Image
(Golden or Holy Cross Chapel, 14th century)

Posted Image

St. Catherine's chapel, semi-precious stones on the walls. The King had money to burn:), but the chapel itself is kinda smallish.
Budget limitations after all?:D
The use of these coloured stones might be useable as a nice, distinctive yet relatively 'easy' way of decorating certain walls in DA3/4, whatever.

Posted Image
Faded frescoes, but one of them restored to its original glory ^_^
I am not sure, I think this is in a stairwell, rather than a chapel.
Imagine ascending the stairs to, say,  your bedroom (of course, the Karlstejn-analogy would be your character's reward for completing the first half of the game, or something), and seeing a depiction of Andraste ascending to the Maker :o

I'd really like some rain. Or maybe snow, if we go up into some mountains again. Different weather as well as landscapes. Example.

Those pictures are briliant, Das Tentakel! I actually really like that style of architecture for Tevinter. What do you guys think?

I'm not a game developer, but I don't see why DAIII couldn't have at least one scene with rain or snow in it. Even if it's just a cutscene at a pivotal part in the game.

Tevinter Imperium seems like the most interesting country to me and makes total sense for it to be in DA3.

Orlais is the complete opposite of Tevinter Imperium in practically everything...that would be a pretty bold artistic move for Bioware.

Politically, it make sense to have those two as major players in DA3. I think Free Marches being touched up as the third could really interesting too.

Bioware should add some dynamic lighting with day/night cycles and weather patterns in the engine too. Makes the world feel alive and definitely helps atmosphere.
