So, this totally makes me think of the Tellari swamp from "The Silent Grove" comic!

I'd love to be able to run around in an environment like this, especially if it was Tellari.
Mystery and exotic beasties around every corner. Maybe even a certain swamp witch...?

Cool pics, but such environments would be wasted unless Bioware can do more with whatever engine they are using. One of the creepy things about swamps is the murky water and the foot grasping mud. Having to hazard the dangers of what might be hiding in the water just to make it to the next squishy peice of ground in the foggy distance.

I'm not saying they could't be cool zones but Bioware really needs to step up their game. They are pushing their games toward the in your face 1st and 3rd person views, but their game engines and environment design are still stuck in the turn based, isometric era. Part of creating a game where actions are more immediate and the gamers view is drawn closer to the scenery and the action, is including things like physics, jumping, swimming.

This is where Bioware usually tells me that everything takes money and time, and if it isn't important to the story, then it isn't important to implement:)

You're right -- an environment like that would need to be more interactive. Or at least feel more interactive, through rippled in the murky water, immersive swamp sounds, and the like. They've got the talent to pull it off. Time and technology is anyone's guess.

On a slightly different note, let's try to keep this discussion on-topic guys. We don't want our poor thread to be shut down! Posted Image

I want to see more details in DA3. Either outside or inside buildings.
The 'big' buildings could contain ceiling pictures like this:

Or wall paintings like this one:

Only if they are destructable environments. I know there has to be a treasure chest or secret door behind one of those paintings!

NWN had these kinds of environments. Very detailed stuff.

But I still think that's too much color. If some areas were like that, it would be cool. If everywhere is that busy and bright, I'd be a little irritated.

@ Avejajed: That was some good picture-hunting...

@ sjpellekesjpeler: You forgot to mention the complex of tunnels and man-made caves (chalk quarries) underneath Valkenburg...

Posted Image

Valkenburg Castle from the air. Besieged and (partially) destroyed many times, it was blown up in the late 17th century by the Dutch themselves to keep it from falling into the hands of the Orle...er, the French.

The tunnel / cave system beneath Valkenburg contains many drawings and carvings made over the centuries, including a complete chapel. It was last used during World War II as a refuge for the town's population.

At some point, they even carved out a replica of part of the catacombs in Rome out of the soft chalk (the area in which Valkenburg lies used to be staunchly Catholic. Perhaps more so because most Dutch are traditionally Protestant).

Posted Image

Now imagine something like this in DA: a picturesque town dominated by the ruins of a large castle, destroyed by Darkspawn, a statue of a Grey Warden slaying an Archdemon on top of the ruined Keep, an underground maze where refugees and survivors held out for months during a Blight.

Posted Image

Plenty of stuff to do with it :-)

to get a proper look (and walkaround) of the grant Cathedral in Val Royeaux ... so it actually looks and feels impressive (if it is such an impressive building that is).

I was thinking maybe the ballroom in the Queen's castle in Val Royeaux. And you're right; really not everywhere Posted Image.

Orlais in style as we can read seems to be renaissance/barok style.
A lot of pictures I posted are from the palace in Versailles.

This is a picture from the gardens. Seems to me that BW took a look at it for the environment
in MotA.

Something like Manarola would be cool if we visit coastal areas.

Posted Image

A giant statue of Andraste overlooking Val Royeaux, akin to Christ the Redeemer would be neat.

@Purebred Corn : Wow,Manarola could be an inspiration for Rivain. And "hell yeah" for an Andraste statue!
@Das Tentakel : Thanks for the Valkenburg photos...the aerial view of the ruins reminds me of Amon Sul in LOTR.
LOL`d at the Orle...French bigwigs (literally) on fire:lol: How frequent an occurence that must have been....would be interesting to see one of the wigs "backfire" in an infiltration mission, perhaps.
@brushyourteeth : before I forget,loved the swamps - and yep,long to see THE swamp / marsh witch:D

I am not sure what type of architecture represents Tevinter best, but I would not say no to a little bit of Russia.

Well, I'm sure the DA team already has their own plans about how they want the game to look, but it is fun to play the "wouldn't it be cool" game. :)
