Lucked out by not having to hack on wave 10, just head hunting.

Can someone clear this up? The way I interpret this is, since it is a squad goal and it says survive until extraction, it sounds like they are saying nobody can die ever during the match. You know how if your whole squad makes it through 3 waves you get a medal that says "3 waves survived" etc but it stops progressing when someone dies? I'm betting they aren't handing these out just for completing gold. Sounds like we have to complete gold with no deaths.

Prepare for the swarm of bad players attempting gold so they can get a commendation pack.
My votekick is ready.
this is unsporting...we should help those who are not gold standard to get their pack too...

I walked through gold on the 1st try with a bunch of randoms. Then did it 2 more times. Then I switched to silver & struggled. WTF? I swear gold has been a lot easier than silver lately.
Team ability and composition means everything.
I'm getting tons of noobs on gold lately. :sigh:
I feel your pain. My regular team-mates couldn't play much today and although I did find some good random players, a large majority just kept running off on their own opposed to sticking to team and strategy... I hate myself for it, but I gave up on reviving them.
You have to use mics, stay togather & call out the Phantoms as soon as you see them. When you have 3 or 4 teammates concentrating on the Phantoms it's much easier.
Start a new lobby & ask players if they have a mic. If they start talking you're good. Kick players that don't have mics. Don't even waste your time starting the match until you have at least 3 players communicating. Gold is so easy when you have players that know what they're doing that can actually communicate with each other.

That's what made it worse for me, they actually HAD mics, they just chose not to listen, which is frustrating as considering my friends and I all have the unwavering achievement from finishing every map on Gold.
I guess I just assumed they’d want my help and just wanted to teach them the strategies that my firends and I have found to work.

Were they talking also? Were they responding to anything that you were saying?
Because I know (on 360 anyway) that people are always shown to have mics, but people can be in parties and therefore can't talk to you or hear you.

I did a few randoms gold games tonight, pretty pleasant experience, few extractions a few fails, some good players, Plenty of dead phantoms though. Woo.
Regarding mics, it does help.
I have a hilarious sore throat so i've spent tonight with a mic on, but muted as all I can do today is croak and that wouldn't help anyone. Even listening to chat from your team mates is better than total silence if you are really mic shy with randoms. You might hear a shout about the location of a phantom or a help shout from a team mate and even if the people on mic are total morons, you can just turn the volume down.

Awesome work man, The more dead phantoms the merrier.
See, the key word in your sentence is "listening", I think there's nothing wrong with just being able to hear each other, as long as there's some form of communication between each other.
See I'm not really bothered if my team-mates respond, it's just as long as they're willing to cooperate and work as a team.

Its an odd one, I think a lot of people who play ME multiplayer will possibly be very new to multiplayer gaming and a bit shy with mics.
I know I am/was.
This is literally the first online game i've played, i've always been more of a single player rpg type, and although I will have a mic on when I play with my mates I wouldn't automatically mic up in a random game, I think with a lot of people its just lack of familiarity/comfort with talking to total strangers on line.
The reality is of course that most people are perfectly nice and it really helps on gold, and now i'm much happier to turn mics on but I honestly think some people are for want of a better word ... scared of mics.
