I'm so tired of seeing EA blamed for everything imaginable. I'm sure they have the tendency to irritate consumers with their practices, but these flaws are Bioware's responsibility. If Bioware is unable to fix these issues because their hands are tied by EA, then Bioware is again breaking their promise to the community and needs to address this somehow.

Regarding this specific problem, I always turn the music down to about 75% and I honestly don't notice a problem. It is not 200% louder in combat, but if you don't adjust it, it will seem too loud...so adjust it.

Among all the issues that plague this game, this is one that is relatively minor and easily fixed by the end user by making use of the music volume adjustments.

The music is one of my favorite aspects of this game. To turn it down to 75% would be horrible. I hate that the volume jumps but to lower music volume, which I already feel is lower than the other sounds present in the game, would turn an annoying aspect into a full blown problem. For me, that would literally change my overall enjoyment of the game. Surely this is one of the best game soundtracks ever composed... for any platform. Simply fantastic!

Regarding the topic, I agree this issue should be addressed by Bioware. EA can't exactly come in and turn out a fix for them and I doubt EA engineered this problem. Not sure how anybody could come to the conclusion that this problem was EA's responsibility.

As the title says, when I enter combat mode, the volume of sound effects and the music becomes deafening, forcing me to pause and lower
it.

There is a solution to this problem? is really annoying! not to mention the fact that it can cause hearing damage for those who wear headphones ...

thanks in advance :)

A lot of modern day companies follow this laziness by having one Volume Slider for "Sound" when really it needs to have seperate slides for Ambience and Combat Sounds.   Shame on you bioware for such a lame, non user friendly volume panel.   Please add more volume sliders for future Dragon Age.

.

Baldur's Gate 2 and Gothic 3 have far superior soundtracks imo.

but the thing is that people love the non-battle music, and when you adjust music volume it lowers that too.  it's way louder in combat, i don't think people are (exaggerating too much at least) when they say it's 200%

personally I wish I could just mute battle music all together, or keep the regular calm music playing but lower so you can hear battle sounds.

I can't believe this hasn't been addressed yet. Disappointing.

Has anyone found a way to correct this yet? Maybe there's a way to find the battle music files and bring them down?

This is totally an issue, the overall game volume goes up by like 6db when battle commences, Bioware hasn't provided SOME sort of workaround for it yet?

I just switched over from the 360 version, and it's unbearable. Of course they're not going to support it, since 2 is out...but they wouldn't even answer us on their offical forum? Seriously? It's almost like they're not allowed to talk about it. I thought about just wearing my headphones the entire time to eliminate the problem, but really, I'd just not play the game if it came to that. Not exactly making me want to buy 2, which I already heard was kinda inferior.

Most sound cards provide a "Smart Volume" feature in their audio driver. It is turned off by default by you can turn it on in your audio driver management software. For Realtek sound cards, this feature is called "loudness equalization" and is located in Realtek HD Audio Manager, Sound Effects tab. For Creative Sound Blaster, the feature is called "Enable SVM", short for Smart Volume Management.

*WE* can't fix anything here.  *WE* try to help where we can, but most people don't want help badly enough to do anything on their own to get it.  This is not any kind of official anything here.  Just as described on top, it's a Self-Help forum, from Gamers to Gamers, and for well over a year, we had no attention in here from anyone at Bioware.  Recently, a couple of their people showed up, and are finally talking about whether or not they can or will issue a patch 1.05 (it's the topmost pinned sticky).

Dragon Age: Origins PC Technical Support
This forum is for fans and owners of Dragon Age: Origins to assist each other with technical questions. Official game support is provided by Electronic Arts, but fans are encouraged to try to assist each other here.

Can't you people get it through your heads?  EA is the only Official Anything similar to support.  Exactly as it tells you in the forum description on top in here.

For any readers who are willing to participate in their problems' solutions, read this other pinned sticky, and follow through as described in it:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/7280573

The current EA Page for DAO itself is support.ea.com/app/answers/list/p/275%2C908/search/1

When it comes to these forums, the design here is a "Self-Help" Tech Discussion forum between game owners, and the BEST way to handle the discussions is with a few ground rules, including insisting on enough basic information to do a great deal more with than merely floating a few WAGs.  One of the ground rules is to ask questions in your own personal (brand new) message, and that doesn't include in anyone else's old threads.

To that end, finally, we have pinned messages on top of the DAO PC Tech forum (called "stickies"), the DA2 PC Tech forum, the ME-1 PC Tech forum, and the ME-2 PC Tech forum decribing how to report problems.  Please read those guides and follow them.

Realize this thread is old, but rather than start a new one, I thought I'd just post in here.

I got the Dragon Age Bundle on Amazon.com a few days ago for $9.99 and I'm enjoying it immensely, but I've noticed that the PC version does indeed feature the same issue as the PS3 version when it comes to sound: everything is way too loud in combat.

I don't suppose there's a fan mod/tweak out now that will help with this, is there? I'm going to try kublikhan "smart sound" suggestion and see if that helps, but man, something that actually sorts the issue in-game would be nice.

Since people are still having a problem with this I went ahead and created a mod to lower the volume of the battle music. I have not tested it extensively and as of now it only works for battle music, not battle sounds or battle dialog.

Just dowloaded your mod but after starting awakening campaign I recognized that there is no music playing after all... (first battle) Perhaps you forgot to implement its music in the package?

Played now for a while in origins (with your mod Kublikhan). When crossing the bridge in Ostagar there is battle music playing which has normal volume... Perhaps you would be so kind to look over your else very helpful and appreciated mod again, also adressing the problems with Awakening? Thank you very much.
