I suppose if there were a black moderator it would just be hilarious to mock his speech using ebonics and references to fried chicken too.

You mean like someone mimicking Flavor Flav and yelling his catchphrase of 'YEEAAAH BOOOOIIII', Filament?

It's supposed to be tacky because it's a comedic meme parodying Woo's catchphrase whenever he'd lock a thread or ban a person for having perfectly viable complaints, AlanC9.

No, it was a racist charicature of stanly woo started by trolls.

What was the catchphrase again?  I've never seen Woo ban anyone for viable complaints, but I assume the catchphrase is the same regardless.

I didn't detect any attempts at racism with the remark. Just citing a meme that exists because of a relentless attempt at censoring criticism. But I can see how leaping on any chance to silence criticism would be the optimal thing to do, rather than find out if that person had any actual intent behind what they said. Just goes to show exactly the kind of negative attitude that people are complaining about, "He said something we don't like! Let's assume and punish before investigating!" Pure class. If you guys were moderator staff on any other site you'd have lost your rank by now ten times over.

Well of course you don't detect any racism in it, because you're on Gleym's side. Even if he came out with a full blast rant involving several N bombs a couple C bombs, and was just the most horrifically racist thing this side of the Tea Party... you still wouldn't detect any racism in it.

Because you have an agenda. And taking responsibility for your own screw ups isn't on your agenda.

Making a game that didn't work out well is not failing to be customer focused.

The idea that CDProjekt is just doing this stuff out of goodness of their hearts is naive. They are a small company. They don't have the kind of money for massive advertising. But they do have the ability to generate a lot of advertising by dropping some DLC on people and letting them run around drinking the kool aid.

Valve is more competent than EA or Ubisoft, but that doesn't make them the nice guys. They are using the leverage they have through Steam to pummel their competitors. Which is why everyone is scrambling to come up with rival services like Origin.

Rockefeller and Standard Oil used to reinforce market dominance with massive markdowns, too. I believe the quote was something like 'Sure, I'm losing money on every sale, but I can lose money a lot longer than anyone else can.'

But that's right, Valve is one of the angels. Here's your kool-aid, kid.

Stop using the word kool-aid it sounds dumb

You must have missed the part where there's no racist alteration of his catchphrase to mock black people when they do that, because that's his actual catchphrase.

Hmmm... I'm trying to come up with a racist alteration of Flava Flav's phrase, but I can't come up with one. I guess I'm just not any good at racism.

Glaumr, you got anything?

There are tens of thousands of forums on the web where you can be as racist as you want, and everyone will applaud you for your ugly jokes. This isn't one of them and that's a great thing.

I love Bioware and I want them to succeed, but no publicly traded company can compete with a private company. Gabe Newell founded Valve as his retirement. In his own words, he could have retired from his job at Microsoft to a boat or a beach, but he chose to start Valve because he loves video games.

Bioware's culture change is an inevitability of no longer being privately owned and operated. In the past I considered all the publishers Bioware worked with to have had little to no impact on Bioware, but the big difference between Bioware working project to project (ie, publishing KOTOR with Lucasarts and ME1 with Microsoft) is that EA isn't simply exterting their influence over an individual Bioware project, they are now permanently exerting their influence over the entire company.

Using Valve as a "good" example seems like a bad idea. Their control of Steam, which has made many developers unhappy, and their treatment of their franchises (TF2 is a money-sucking hole, Half-Life 2 is still on a cliffhanger, Portal 2 was an average sequel in my opinion) Even CD Projekt, whom I love, would very likely charge for the DLC if they could get away with it (they can't, as they are a smaller company who needs the free advertising that free DLC generates). Even EA is giving away Resurgence and the Extended Cut for free. They aren't stupid. They know they need to win their fans back.

As it is, EA is more incompetent than anything. Valve, CD Projekt and others just hide their evil sides a little better. That's actually the joy of Capitalism. If you're a jerk, nobody will buy from you, so the marketplace becomes a civilizing factor. So, EA and BioWare are starting a trend of free DLC to win their customers back. And unless the Extended Cut turns out to be utter crap, I'll probably still buy from them because of it.

Yeah, this is laughable.  If this is your threshold for "racism" then it is a micron thin.  So when my doorbell rings it's racist?  Okay!

If your doorbell sounds like a hateful asian charichature, then yes it is.

Well, my doorbell makes a "Ding Dong" sound.  It doesn't sound particularly Asian, nor hateful.  So is it racist?

It's about as racist as mimicking Flavor Flav by yelling 'YEEEAAAH BOOOIIII!'

I definitely make distinctions between ethnic humor (which I don't have a problem with) and racist crap. As someone who's half-Chinese here, I view what the idiot poster did in the forums as being racist in nature. It's mockery not done because we're all sharing a joke - it's an attempt to mock a particular moderator because of his ethnic group. It's not done to be nice, it's not done because we're comrades in arms sharing a joke. And you defending it with this Flavor Flav example is ridiculous.

Now about this thread in general:

1) Can we stop beating a dead horse and stop posting crap unrelated to ME3? Or do it in the off-topic forums where this stuff  belongs.
2) The only people I see being disrespectful in here are the BSN posters, rather than the BW employees.
3) If you love CD Projekt so much, maybe you should go to their forums to bask in their greatness and tell them what giants among men they are. And hey, you can go build a shrine to them too while you're at it!

Bioware just wants our money, period, there is no more fan/dev relationship.

Yet, here we both are. Crazy.

When all you give is snarky comments and no actual discussion it's more like an abusive relationship, sure it's still a relationship but it's not a good one.

:wizard:

This guy has a point.

Actually, he doesn't - especially when it's the fans who have been abusive jack...a...lopes.

Nope, fans are costumers (even if they are bad ones, they still are costumers). He works for Bioware, he must always act with professionalism, otherwise he isn't apt for the job. Snarky comments are way off, it's better to not respond at all, or to actually have a constructive response.

Yeah, I think we're done here. If anyone has any concerns about a change of culture here at BioWare, you are welcome to send me a private message and we'll discuss it.

LOCKDOWN!
