The GPS Deception...

I just started using the GPS on my geth infiltrater along with the smg for a total geth build. N7 over 600 and I consider myself a damn good player, so am I a noob all of a sudden because I decide to use a gun that gels with my geth?
People around here complain no matter what.

The OP is saying that the weapon is the best, and the argumen ts more that it ins't. However, I agree on geth that the shotgun is beast mode, I use it on my geth primarily, and it's not my favorite shotgun or weapon by any means, but with extra geth weapon damage, it's the best. I would use the widow if it got the benefit, but it doesn't.

And yet I have not seen anything on this thread to convince me the GPS isn't the best all around weapon in the game. It simply is.
I think the OP's intent was to start a discussion about how the GPS often fills the cracks in most of the classes, glossing over the weaker ones. The player really can't go wrong equipping the GPS on any class. If you consider there are 33+(?) other weapons in the game, none of which can make the same claim, you might think there was a problem there as well and instead of weirdly debunking the dps of the GPS, the discussion could be about, why is the game like this?

The problem is just as you stated it. A weapon should not be, in the first place, not only a viable option on all classes but among the better choices for all classes, purely because its ease of use and high damage output basically make the "class" designation meaningless. You could pump up weapon damage, fitness, and just use the GPS on any class, totally ignoring all skills and still churn out 2nd place easily (1st potentially) if you know what you're doing. That might, arguably, be true for a few different weapons, which is why the additional fact that it is has such a disproportionately high return for the total lack of effort you have to put into using it is just icing on the annoying cake.N7 Spectre525 wrote...

I'm in full agreement with Stardusk. It leads people to tend toward just using the GPS and away from actually playing their class or focusing on more difficult to use weapons. The path of least resistance to a high score, I guess. That all said, it does feel good to totally outperform somebody sharing your class that went with the GPS. It's petty, but it does cross my mind when it happens and I won't bother to deny it.

it does not "make any class viable." please show me a solid AA rocking a GPS in gold (zkh3r's challenge thread doesn't count)
threads like this serve no purpose than to alert the developers that it may require a possible nerf. so thanks for that.
I am 100% sure that OP started this thread because he was outscored by a SI with a GPS while he was also playing Infiltrator with a SR.
ps - people who take pride because they use other weapons that are "harder" are just as wrong as the OP.

LOL. Me play an Infiltrator with a SR? You should ask my teammate if I EVER play with a SR. When I play Infiltrator, then with a Claymore. That is it. I stand by my claim that the GPS makes any class viable.

I have played with the GPS a lot lately and I tend to just charge the gun and shoot at the guardians and they are dead. It doesn't work every time but it does work often. HOWEVER, I think this is just because of the nature of the projectile (or the 3 projectiles) ending up going through the slot without having to aim that much--not that it ignores the shield...

Lets put homing on all the guns.
And make all shots headshots.
Afterall, the difficulty of using a gun doesn't matter at all.

I don't understand the need for this post either. I know Stardusk loves him some Graal, but the GPS is a decent weapon, and since when was making a class "viable" a bad thing?
I don't understand all the proselytizing for the Graal. Sure, it's a good, underrated weapon. It's also damn near impossible to use reliably with even moderate latency, and not all of have the luxury or patience to host all our own matches.
My problem isn't that the GPS makes bad builds/players look good (it doesn't really), my problem is that just about every other weapon in the game --that isn't a shottie or SR-- is inferior by about 400 sustained DPS.... and that the GPS only needs one mod to operate at maximum efficacy, and has no real need for AP/Warp rounds.
In practice, the GPS is fine for any match, bronze -> gold, it's just the rest of the arsenal that needs to catch up. But the GPS doesn't make anybody elite that wasn't a very good player to begin with.

So basically people are upset because someone with a non optimal build can use the GPS on any difficulty and dominate the scoreboard? Who the hell cares? Its not PVP and some weapons are just better than others. If you guys care about scores and who's on top, go play Gears 3 and let your true talent shine.

I asked your teammates and they said you use a Mantis X and then cry when a GPS infiltrator outscores you. Word on the street is that you complain a lot about kill stealing also.

Even that is a strawman. GPS users don't dominate the top of the leaderboard every match. Rate of fire and crap reload on the GPS often limits that as much as anything. And why is it that nobody complains about Black Widows/Javelins/Valiants, who, in my experience, top the charts far more often? It's not unusual to see Carnifex users up there too.
What you don't see is ANYTHING else (with occasional exceptions, obviously) competing.
Granted, who gives a damn about about score, it's a co-op game, yada yada. But this notion that the GPS makes you good is crap. It's the gimped non-gold weapons (SMG's, AR's, most pistols) and gold's BS 50 point armor penalty that make weapons like the GPS appear be better and more forgiving than they really should be.

The GPS is the best weapon. By some margin. Any class, of any spec, can go on gold, without spending consumables, and do well. Its ease of use + great results = best. gun. in. the. game.
There are certainly other good weapons, that have specialized advantages over the GPS, like the Falcon for staggering and ammo spreading, or the claymore on an infiltrator, or any of the top end sniper rifles, but no other weapon offers the firepower of the GPS for its weight, making it a good choice for any class. Sure you can slap the correct mods and a rail amp and a level 3 ammo on a Revenant or Hurricane, or whatever, with the GPS, you don't have to spend any consumables. If you do, it becomes even more powerful.
Just equip it, shoot it here and there between using your powers, and you will do better than if you had equipped almost any of the other 30+ guns in the game. Some of you may have forged some kind of emotional attachment to it, some of you may identify with it and are having some kind of mental breakdown to even discuss it, some of you are just ****ing stupid/bad. Whatever. I think its boring.
Whenever I look at all the classes and decide what to play, the first thing I ponder is what gun should I use? Overwhelmingly, its the GPS.
BW has already buffed the **** weapons 2 or 3 times now, and, wow, they are still ****. Sure, you could use a Mattock with the best mods and level 3 amps and level 3 ammo and spam the goddamned trigger for half an hour. Have fun. I think thats retarded when I can just use the gps to gain the same end result. Thats not my fault, thats the game's fault. Its clearly a problem.
I don't know how much of a problem it is to BW, but I don't see the depth or "interesting choice" in a weapon system with a weight component and a consumable component if some weapons need to be used on certain classes with certain consumables to approach the performance of a naked gps. The gun is so powerful, even bad classes with bad specs can win gold with it provided the player is semi intelligent. Which, he/she would be for using the GPS in the first place, as it is the best, overall, gun, in, the, game.

Edit: Am I missing something? Everyone's talking about how powerful it is... Last I checked, a charged Geth Plasma Shotgun shot does like 3 bars to a Geth Prime on Gold. Whereas with the Black Widow, I can down his shields quicker than the charge time of the GPS. I'm talking about the GPS X.
