Knowing how the trilogy ultimately ends, would you recommend a newbie to play all 3 games?

i was telling my friends how awesome mass effect 3, they thought the game sounded tottally rad..... then i finished the game a day before a friend bought it and i was like "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (slow motion jump in front of bullet) i would recommend the first two games without hesitation though.

I would to friends who like sci fi games. I think it would help them if they don't have the years of anticipation and expectations given by the marketing department.

I would. The games are fun to play and they have a good story. Yes, I fully admit the ending to ME3 is not very good (being generous), but the rest of the game (and all of ME1 and 2) are very good games, very fun to play and deserving of your money.

If they asked advice about the game, I would be honest: the ending is a complete failure. It fails in almost every way an ending can fail.

From now on for the most part I'll probably tell people to just play ME1.
ME2 didn't advance the plot at all, most of the rpg elements were stripped. Still a good game overall though if you don't mind that.
ME3 is just a mess even when not including the ending.

I would recommend that a newbie play the first 2.95 games.

Yes. The journey was good, but the destination was sh*t. Maybe the newbie will enjoy the ending, some people do.

Definately play ME1.
Should play ME2 as well.
But everyone should play ME1
Yeah this....but then it may just depress you more once you see ME 1 and what they took out in ME 2, and even more so with ME 3. Really the best thing about ME 3 other than the genophage and geth story archs was the imporved combat and melee attacks.

Certainly, it's one hell of an experience right the way through. Whilst the ending might not have been on par I do have great faith in the extended cut. Even if it had ended with everyone turning into carrots and being eaten by giant space rabbits the experience up to that point isn't worth missing out upon.
It certainly hasn't ruined my experience as I've started an insanity playthrough from ME1 to take all the way to the end!

Most definitely would recommend to a friend. Would also strongly recommend they stay away from gaming forums.

I would make them play the metal gear series afterwards, that way they know a proper ending to an epic series.
Or before.

I'd definitely recommend this trilogy to anyone who finds games in general interesting. As mentioned before who knows if those ppl actually like the ending. So far out of 6 close friends of mine only 1 has liked the ending. The rest and myself included were pretty much devastated and so far only I have managed to start over and complete this game several times. It's kinda sad seeing ppl who have completed ME 1 & 2 like 4-5 times just go and ditch ME 3 right after first playthough, thoug can't rly blame them

No. I don't wish to earn the hatred of my friends.

This happened to me a month ago with a friend. I told him to stay away from the games if he wanted to avoid a major disappointment in the end.

In its current state, no. Does the Mass Effect series have strengths? Sure it does. But so do a lot of other games out there, games that didn't chop off their own legs ten feet from the finish line. If I'm going to recommend a friend to spend money and time on a game series, I'm going to recommend a game that doesn't fail so spectacularly in its finale.

I've got my brother to finaly play them and he's a few hours into 2, he enjoying it and knows how 3 ends but he doesn't play games as much as me so the exstended cut should be out by the time he finishes 3 (we play on the same xbox so he's just playing on 'my copies' of the game, i wouldn't recomened it if he would have to spend money)

Of course the whole reason why I started playing the ME season is because I saw the trailers to Mass Effect 3.

Without a doubt. The games, while each had flaws, were amazing. Just because the ending wasn't something I really appreciated doesn't mean they won't. Besides, getting to the end was really really fun.
