Knowing how the trilogy ultimately ends, would you recommend a newbie to play all 3 games?

Given that you can get ME1 & ME2 for under $5 each on Amazon, yes. Absolutely. They're still amazing games.

I would not tell them about the ME3 ending - I'd want them to be able to love and enjoy ME1 & ME2 in the same way I did, without the taint of that hanging over them.

Yes. Mass Effect 1 is still one of the best games I have ever played.

I wouldn't want to put them through that. It's similar to Javiks dialogue about his memory shard. Would you want to experience the Mass Effect trilogy in all it's glory again but also watch it end as it did, or just leave it there to gather dust.

I'd still recommend the game, but I would strongly advice against investing oneself deeply to avoid dissapointment. It's still worth playing through ME1, ME2 and most of ME3 just for the journey.

I'd tell someone to definitely play all three, but I'd ensure that they turn it off the moment that the Anderson dies just before Hackett says the crucible didn't fire

People saying no are pathetic.

The Mass Effect series is one of the best trilogies this gen, and each one are excellent games on their own.

Of course I'd recommend it.

Name calling because someone has a different opinion to you is pathetic, get some perspective.

They are though. The three games have universal acclaim across the board, are incredibly engaging and are one of the most rich and rewarding gaming experiences out there.

Call me pathetic if you wish, but I'm right, and I'm not letting the final 5 minutes sour what is and will always be an epic series. Perspective? Say that to the people who constantly moan and complain about how terrible the game is, how the ending ruined their lives, bla bla bla.

There are bigger and more important things in life y'know, there is some perspective for you.
BSN is just one big cry-fest, the tears that have flooded this board could cure Africa's drought problem a thousand times over.

The THREE games? Are you so blinded by your tough attitude that you have come to consider ME3 "universally acclaimed"? I understand if you said you liked it, but this, sir, is just not true.

I would likely tell them to play ME1 and ME2, then make up ME3's story in their mind. It is likely to be a lot more complex and fufilling. Oh, it was a glorious game before I played it. The Rachni had a major role, involving a lot of negotiations with the Council to accept their help, Cerberus used the CB to improve their tech across the board and supplied Shep with new goodies to play with periodically, the Batarians were the main secondary (non-indoctrinated) antagonists, featuring a mission where the Leviathin of Dis has to be stolen from them and convinced to join the rest of the Galaxy against the Reapers. Also, the Geth aren't sidelined into being antagonists and Javik becomes the God-Emporer of the galaxy. If only the game never came out, it would have stayed at that level of quality.

I would recommend them to buy all three games, and play them with an open mind and let them create their own opinion. Only because some people didn't like it, it doesn't mean my friends won't like it.

Right now, I'd like to recommend boycotting all BioWare/EA purchases to make a point.

On the other hand, ME and ME2 are fantastic games and I wouldn't want to deprive anyone of them. Not that I have the ability, but you know what I mean! :kissing:

So, getting ME and ME2 and leaving ME3 until/if the EC fixes things would be an acceptable solution. Again, not that it's really my business, but you know what I mean! <_<

Also, wrong forum =]

I don't think I could recommend it, or if I did, I'd recommend the first 2 games, and tell 'em to hold off on the third one...

I've let 4 of my friends borrow all 3 of the games from me since I've beaten it. So yes I would recommend playing the games.

I'd suggest ME & ME2 then tell them that the series got cancelled but there's lots of excellent fanfiction to make up for it.

I'd recommend one and two - but could never advise anyone to get three.

In fact I know two guys who have played one and two and after hearing my, rather furious at times, ranting over the ending (don't worry, didn't give away specifics :innocent:) and the general lazyness of the third one (tali's face being a dodgy photoshop - yet chobot is given an ingame 3D model FFS, the use of a desktop wallpaper in the stargazer scene [google "alien winter"]) has made them refuse to buy it

If that isn't universal acclaim then I don't know what is.

I'd still recommend all three games, they're still all great. I would just give the warning that ME3 is not quite up to ME2's level of greatness so don't go in expecting it to knock your socks off.

No, I am not a fan of setting people up for dissapointment. Plus there has been too many lies and outright snarkiness from BW/EA for me to promote them/increase their profits, so again, no.

Thinking on it, me reccomending the series to someone would not only be setting them up for dissapointment, but would also equate to me epicly trolling them as well, because, the purpose of trolling is to screw with people/cause them massive dissapointment =P

I'll avoid the friend trolling. Besides, I have already told everyone just how bad the ending is and that it completely destroyed any will for me to replay it, it would be along the lines of hooking up with someone that is verified to suffer from premature eja***ation, why bother since your only going to be dissapointed in the end.

"Its an epic journey, you had a great time..." yeah so did the people on the Titanic ,and look how that ended for them =P

For a friend? I'd just lend him/her my games. No need to buy them.
But I'd warn him/her about the ending.

It definitely got a well rounded reception, but the problem is - were the critics wearing hype goggles?  I wonder what their point of comparision is.

Even if you think the ending ruined the entire series, aren't you still glad you got to play Tuchunka and Rannoch? That first view landing on Palaven? Shoot TIM?

You couldnt tell someone to play 1 and 2 and not 3. ME3 had some spectacular missions.
