I think a survival mode would be an interesting twist on gameplay. The longer you survive, the more credits you earn sort of thing, with a few twists to make it more challenging.

Bronze survival gives you free reign over the map. Random timed objectives appear and must be completed in order for the clock to keep running, or to gain bonus credits, or both. These games would last quite awhile and give you a moderate reward.

Silver survival would give you a restriction of movement, say half the map is available to you. If you venture outside that area you will do 50% of your normal damage and take 100% extra damage.

Gold survival would be a rather insane challenge - take the diameter of a hacking circle or extraction zone and triple its size. You must remain in this area at all times. Ammunition is plentiful/possibly unlimited.

Just some thoughts, what do you think>?

Depending on how many ways lead to where your forced to be will either make this crazy easy or stupid hard.
But yes sometimes I wish wave 11 would just keep goin when I got a great team :)

Asides from the area restrictions, I actually think that's a good idea. The number of enemies per wave plus the increasing enemy health and damage as difficulty increases should make the game challenging enough. Adding area restrictions would just frustrating instead of challenging, especially since objectives would still appear regardless.

You could set it up so that Objective waves come once every 2 waves, i.e. in Wave 2, Wave 4, Wave 6 etc, just to keep the pressure up yet make credit earning more appealing.

I have discussed similar game types with friends.

I would fully support this.

They could add it a-la pinnacle station. That's the spin I'd put on it.

Hell, just import the stages, for a stroll down memory lane.

With survival mode, they can reinstate the old cap of 10 missiles/medigel/ops/ammo: wouldn't be overpowered anymore with unlimited waves + give people more rares to unlock. Shouldn't be too hard to randomize the following waves.

In hindsight the area restriction is a poor idea.I think that instead making consumables limited would be a grand idea. Could even introduce various challenges. Survive wave X without using a cobra. Survive wave X without using a thermal clip pack, etc. Survival mode would be great. Instead of increasing the enemy's health every few rounds or so I'd just increase the number of spawns. On gold difficulty enemies have enough health and shield gate glory as it is...

I remember on Bioware's twitter, before ME3 was released, someone mentioned getting to wave 18 on multiplayer. They must have had a survival mode planned, and scratched it in the last few weeks before the game came out.

Survival mode can suck because you go into it knowing you are going to come out a failure. And you are basically prolonging the pain as long as possible. It can also be very luck based depending on combinations of enemies produced from RNG.

I like the idea of varying challenges though (staying in larger hack circle for example)

I also like the idea of enemies that require a little more team work to manage/take down. Though you'd have to be careful not to create a strata between pugs who don't communicate well and friends who do.

I wouldn't think most people would be put off by it. Many people - some who even hate the PvP multiplayer - bought CoD just for zombies.

Either way, Bioware needs to add something new if they want to compete with other MPs.

That sounds like a very interesting concept. I would really like to see that but they would need a lot of time to implement something like this.

They'd have to make sure credits immediately go to your account. Just imagine if it goes on as long as possible, you get to wave 100 only to lose connection to the game and all those credits.

THIS.

Survival mode would be a lot of fun I think. I get the point about going into it knowing its a failure. But does the effort make it worth the reward? I'd say so.

especially if you can see the credits piling up at the end of every wave...

lol, the farming on this if credits were available after every round.

It is a brilliant idea though, and I would like to see it.

Maybe also an equivalent to the Zombie modes where you face only husks but a whole lot of them, you have to use in game points to buy new ammo, and as the round progress you eventually fight Cannibals and other reaperfied things? :D

Unless they offer credits for each wave, then that could appeal to a lot of people. Here is what they can do:

Waves 1-4: Bronze difficulty (maybe 2,500 credits per wave?)
Waves 5-9: Silver difficulty (around 5,000 credits?)
Waves 10-N: Gold difficulty (10,000 credits?)

I made the rewards close to what you earn when you play a full bronze/silver/gold match so it's not exaggerated and abused.

I think it'd be really hard to balance in terms of reward compared to the other modes, unless at some point the extra credits per wave just gets capped. Eh, it seems kinda boring as a concept. I'm all for new waves, but purposely restricting players to only one part of the map seems really uninteresting. I would echo the sentiment about expecting to lose eventually too. We know a large part of the community will blow missiles just to get through Wave 11, so I'd conjecture that it's the majority opinion too.
