Is there any way to mod the stuff from the actual game such as adding items or monsters? Or are you forced to create new content, and if so how do you add your new areas to places in the actual game?
Can I mod the actual game?

modifing items / creatures is very easy and will work in the main game.
When you create new stuff or monsters, they would be part of the game, but wouldn´t spawn anywhere.

select item you wish to mod
save as to make a copy that isnt read only
modify it as you wish
place it in override

adding monsters becomes a tad more difficult though. It can be done through scripting but if you hold off on firing up the Toolset for a few days, you'll have the latest version which includes all the editable single player files (like areas, creatures, etc) which will make it possible to edit *anything* in the original campaign.

They will be releasing the campaign module and toolset patch sometime this week, once this is released you will be able to edit the campaign in a similar way as oblivion or fallout 3, it will be very easy to modify existing content and to add your own. Cheers!
