A heads up:

We've been told that Priority: Earth is going to remain as it is for the Extended Cut, so don't count on any of this material to actually make it into the game.

I don't get it. I mean okay recording extra VO is a sound plan but why would you want to include it in the final product if it's not going to be used at all?

And did they really think we won't find these tidbits hidden in the data?

A last minute change when they were told to prioritise MP and stuff, probably.  It's hard to track down and neatly prune every resource that they'd intended to use, so there'll always be bits and pieces left over: given that the ending was likely changed because they didn't have the time to do it properly, they also wouldn't have time to go through the game archives with a fine-tooth comb...

Oh well. The fact that these files still exist is just proof that they were rushed when it came to the ending.

I just can't believe they actually cut all this stuff from the ending mission. Sooooo much wasted potential.

You know... making an unemtional ending, to a emotional game, is imo bad writing. Great for writing text books and history books.... (oh wait... thats right with the epiloge it pretty much just is a history book being told to a kid.... )

Was just thinking about Extended Cut. So Weekes told us, and some others sources as well, that the ending part (London + Starchild) were written by Mac Walters and Casey Hudson, who did that on their own, unlike the rest of the game which was a group effort of entire writing team, bouncing ideas back and forth.

Endings suck, for short time they seem to not notice the backlash. But later...
They both vanish from Twitter same day, we are told Casey went on "vacation".

But later we hear, that NO WORRIES, Casey is directing the Extended Cut - wait what, one reason why ending failed was because he did it with Mac with almost no artistic input from Dombrow or Weekes, the best writers Bioware have.

How is having Casey aboard the Extended Cut helping now? Was it ever confirmed, that the Extended Cut will involve Weekes and Dombrow?

None of us are particularly prescient about what occurred in the final weeks (or months) before Mass Effect 3 was released, but there are enough scattered pieces of a puzzle to form an increasingly clearer picture that what was released specifically differed from what was actually intended. Evidence like these audio bits, the original release date being pushed back, multiple weeks of multi-player events, and now EA Games VP's stating outright that they are converting most of their franchise properties into ongoing online communities. There also remains the numerous prerelease statements made by the key Bioware personnel that were not honored in the actual product, the sum total of which broke ranks with their "most, vocal, passionate, core fanbase" expectations (formed in response to how ME3 was marketed) and clearly negated established in-game lore. Artistic integrity, please!

Mass Effect deserved the full Monty, and enough indications are evident to suggest that it came just that close to nailing it, but parent company plans to milk the name value of the franchise - plus the willing culpability of the top creative staff tail-gunned much more than a few reputations. Hiding behind a bogus creative posture won't change that.

Jack - www.youtube.com/watch
Grunt - www.youtube.com/watch

It's clear they they are taking part in the final battle o.O VERY interesting, so Bioware DID plan to show our squadmates in the final battle :o Let's hope it gets restored in EC

EDIT: Just to be clear, this ain't mine. Credit goes to our very own one and only Vertigo <3

------------------------------------

Looking at leaked script, it seems like they were also planning to have an UI (user interface) where we would be assigning our War Assets during the battle, Suicide Mission-style:

CUTSCENE:
A second Reaper fleet arrives in orbit of Earth. Harvesters start launching from the Reapers, and descend towards earth in a massive swarm.

Conversation:

Shepard / Hackett / Anderson decide to move quickly to organize a defense to hold off the Reapers in orbit from reaching the Citadel and to keep the Harvesters away from the London facility.

GUI:

Hammer resolution: summary of performance of the Hammer striketeam and casualty report.

Shield planning: assign strike teams for orbital and planetary operations to defend against the Reaper counterattack.

... and they left this out... why?

Budget and Schedule?

Oh... why would they cut these?
It's... sad, to say the least. That last mission could've been so much more.

Just another handful of proof that the ending was rushed and butchered due to time constraints

By "time constraints", I think you mean artistic integrity.  Right?  LOL.

A lot of this makes sense when you take into account what we were told.

Developers actually think we don't care about the story. They think we just want to do (in this case) a series of cover fights and that constitutes fun. Its the exact opposite for me, the fights are what I have to get through to get to the story.

Knowing that, though, it begins to make sense why so much stuff we might think is good is cut out.

Also, some of the jack commentary is said during the fights on the school you rescue her from.

Guys, ensure this content and other squadmate/war asset support in this thread, great find isaac. Keep this and the other thread bumped.

This one makes people aware, the other shows support.

Now I can't wait for EC even more! Summer hurry up! :D

Why. The. Hell. WAS THIS CUT?!?!?

I suspect one of two things:

1) turned out to be too hard for them to make.

2) they thought it would be too hard for their customers to comprehend.  (remember, movie execs and probably game execs think the great unwashed masses are just a hair above a brick in capability).

I'm sorry, but anyone who defends Bioware...this is proof they messed up. This stuff is awesome and there is no reason this should've been cut.

It sounds like they had a great end mission going, and then blew it.

The fans do not walk in the same world you and I walk in. They do not see the same world you and I see. In their world we are better than we are, we care more than we care.

Paraphrase of Lenier about Delen but we can use it here as one developer speaking to another.
