On a somewhat related note I started playing Disgaea 3 for the Vita recently.
One of the first things the main character says is "I won't accept this ending! I'll start a petition!".
There's also a bit later on where he complains that being denied a final confrontation with the ultimate bad guy isn't any kind of true ending.

Funny how everything has to remind me of the bad ending, even in other games.

I think 343 will do a fine job with it, and even if they screw up, I won't see Halo 4 as Canon anyway. Forerunners+broken Halo= eehhhh...

Many developers don't care about endings anymore because many people who play play games casually don't usually finish their games (I remember seeing something that said only 1/3 of players actually finish their games)

Why do you think so many games have an awesome beginning, a boring middle, and broken and poorly designed end if they are longer than 6 hours

For us former and current wow players, The ending of cataclysm was terrible.....ugh disgusting

FF13-2 had a great ending, in a very bleak, depressing, cliffhanger-y way. Hopefully 13-3 will pick up the story from there.
