What if they try a Love triangle?

Then they would be geniuses(assuming they could pull it off well). I thought it was kinda weird how most of your LIs had no one else flirting with them. It would be good to actually compete for their attention. Maybe there could be a quest where you can duel your comepetition or something.

The did this in BG2 (godd**m smooth-talker Hear'dalis *grumbles incoherently about making sure to leave thieving tiefling bards to the mercy of evil wizards next time*) - um, anyway, yeah they did it with Aerie and Hear'dalis if you had both in your party.  Eventually he even challenges you to duel for her (which is you accept you loss her, which can be annoying if he's really irriated you by this point ).

I think I'm going to replay BG now(and BG2)

That sounds perfect, except losing the LI they could be angry for a while(depending on the character) but losing them should only happen if you do something that they really disagree with, which BG2 also implemented excellently. I just figured that someone might be intrested in them, the only exception I can think of in DA is where Fenris and Isabella start having sex , but that is just pleasure and not a "proper" romance.

Aside from the obvious how the romance plays out compared to both Dragon Age games. I have come to notice something while viewing Mods from players.

An example would be the kiss scene between Alistair and your companion.

With the vanilla version of the game, the camera angles are at awkward angles or it is so far back you need a telescope to see what they are doing. I just cannot help but feel that the developers are afraid to show it. Maybe I should have told the photographer I hired for my wedding, “Now, when my husband I kiss, please be sure to take pictures of either the back of my head or his head.” :P

I am completely baffled that company with resources makes kiss scenes by showing the backs of people’s heads. Yet an everyday gamer can create a romantic kiss by actually showing it with very little resources at their fingertips.

@Cantina Perhaps it was the intention to leave some of that to your imagination, so if you prefer tongue, that is what you can imagine...if you don't like tongue, you don't have to see that.

Bah! Then maybe they should do the same with combat, if you don't want to stab someone in the chest, then it should be left to your imagination. :P

I would imagine, if you do not like chest stabbing (or head stabbing, knee stabbing, groin stabbing or gut stabbing) you would not be playing these games.  Image IPB

She kind of looks like she's trying to suck his soul out.

Just saying -- I don't think the devs are prudes about kissing, I just think they knew what the person who made that mod obviously didn't, which is that if you can't do it right you just shouldn't do it.

I had always assumed that they shot it that way in case the different races didn't all line up properly in the animation. And, since you could kiss him anywhere, they probably used a static camera angle because they didn't want to have it go through a wall or something.

I don't know from one video of this mod if it solved those issues throughout the entire game. I guess if it did, then those reasons are invalid.

Tho I dunno - personally seeing it from the back of the head didn't bother me.

Me neither, I'm one of the people who thinks the 'something-left-for-the-imagination' versions are better.

But! The kissing sounds? Really, Bioware? They sounded like someone experimenting on their hand or something. True, you could tell what it was supposed to be but too slobbery for me to bear to listen to.

Yea - the Anders kiss had me burst out laughing the first time I saw it cos of the sound effects...I don't think that was their intended effect....

I actually prefer over-the-shoulder shots, because I role-play in first person.  The less I see the protag on screen, the better my experience.

Oh and please DO NOT look to the Witcher for inspiation for romance options. While I really like the Witcher, I don't feel that Geralt is actually in love with any of the many women he sleeps with, instead it just seems he is just using them for pleasure. While that may work with Geralt my main Warden and main Hawke were considerably different and wanted someone to love, not just have sex with. BG is a much better place to look.

Well if you have read any of the Witcher books you know that Geralt has his reasons for it. When Whitchers are made a part of the process removes any feelings from the target, after all a monster slayer should not feel any fear. So Geralt has only shadow of emotions left. This makes him kind of tranquil Image IPB. Geralt tries to regain his emotions back by hooking up with Jennifer (and Triss in the game) but the work is hard. Sex itself is a way for him to get atleast some kind of feelings. He wants to be part of society and have relationships but is forever closed outside because what he is. So Geralt is a kind of sad character actually.

OMG I completely forgot about this. I remember kissing Alistair for the first time in DA:O and being like,
"Eugh! I mean... well, I guess he is new at this."

Much better to just let the background music swell louder in that moment than play us a track of wet, schloppy noises. My Warden is a hero, dammit - not a quarter pounder with cheese, and she deserves unsloppy kissing!

Anders' panting, however, was incredibly hot. Wouldn't work for everybody, but... hot!

I know, I assume that the protagonist won't be similarly detactched from their emotions.

Anders panting = hot. Quarter pounder with cheese = not hot and I laughed so hard I almost choked on a cruton. Yes, I'm snacking on crutons. Don't you dare judge me! Image IPB

LOL!

I assume Anders has not been intimate with anyone since he merged with Justice, so I don't mind him thinking of me as a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. As far as I am concerned Anders can devour my character as such, she certainly will not complain about it. :P

Lol side butt. I'd love to see those tender little moments between our character and his/her love interest, even silly little things like wistful glances as the potential love interest starts to fall for the hero etc.

The tender moments would be great. Something like them cuddling in bed or sitting together putting a head on their shoulder. It should also happen often, like maybe an extra scene between major mission where the lovers discuss events more intimately.

Also, and this is huge, a special quest revolving around the love interest, maybe resulting in their death if you make the wrong choices. It would go a long way towards making the romance feel like it matters.

Glad I could bring back the fond memores of Anders' sweet, fevered, breathy kissin'. Image IPB
Too bad he was totally over you, like, 10 minutes later. But oh well.

Seriously, that kiss had some serious replay value.

Seriously.

I for one would like to see a sexual preference check box in Character Gen.
When my Bro-Hawk visits Fenris to see what BS he's got going on then having a flirt option show up on a whim really messes with my immersion with my character. If Fenris swings that way, cool; having my character be sexually ambiguous with-out making sufficient decisions to reflect that throws me for a loop.

How is that any different from the number of other types of dialogue options that the character you have conceived wouldn't choose?

@ serTabris
I'm not sure what your asking, but I'm talking about getting my dialogue wheel more in-tuned to what my character thinks. So that if i check the "heterosexual" box when i generate the character then that reflects His/Her persona. Then when a flirt option comes up for a same-sex romance it's then turned into a unique refusal or doesn't even show up because of a character guide-line I set.

I like how romances were made in DA2 very much. Especially with Anders or Isabela. In simple girly words they were sweet and sexy, fit to a specific character:) I didn't feel embarrased while looking at romance scenes or felt some things were unnecessary like with TW2, DAO or ME1. I like how romance scenes were focused a lot more on emotional aspects. Focusing on seeing some character naked or just having sex would NOT be treating players like adults.

The flirt option is not a reflection on Fenris' sexuality, but your characthers'. If you don't want to have a bi-sexual characther simply don't pick flirts with the gender you don't want. After all Avelien and VArric have flirts too and they are not interested.
