I rarely promote, but sometimes is fun to do for the heck of it.

did a game in bronze with another player, my GE lvl1 and his soldier was lvl1 and N7 of 1! (just two days ago).

Most probably his/her first match. We cruise together in the reactor and I help him/her to get the feet wet. Too bad did not have a mic, I would be interested in hear his/her first impression of MP..

Yeah, I don't bother promoting. I'm still trying to get credits to rank X some of my weapons, and I'm the type of guy who likes knowing he's contributing to the team, neither of which is helped by constantly having a low-level character.

Indeed.  Tony S. also wished he had more war assets at the end - so keep promoting those MP chars.

How's that going to help him if I promote?

I stopped promoting about at 8xx N7 because there is no point at all promoting chars...my epenis is not going to grow for a higher N7 rank

If you seriously haven't had to promote several times to try tweaking a spec, then I don't want you in my Gold matches.

"My gold games" LOL

You're an idiot.  The syntax "my match," "my gold match," "my last match," etc. is correct.  If you think that "my" always implies possession then you're an idiot.  If I'm going to spend 20-30 minutes of MY (possession implied this time) time doing something, I want to do everything I can to lower the likelihood of sharing my time with some idiot who will simply frustrate me and increase the likelihood of failure.

Good god man, calm yourself lol... You can drop logic without turning into the hulk you know? Lol

Not when you're an elitist....

Apparently using Respec cards makes you less skilled than promoting and raising your rank, according to AremihcO.

I only promote on N7 special operations. So I'm right with you, OP. Except I do like the war assests it provides.

I only promoted 2 characters for that one event. Sadly I promoted them just before the event went online and I got nothing.
Reminds me of the time I deleted my tf2 inventory the day before crafting was revealed.

I'm with you though, to hell with the n7 rank.

You're not very good at the video games, are you?

there is only to reasons to promote

1. leaderboards
2. so not wasting all the character cards you will end up with.

Same here...
I don't give a damn about N7 ranks. I've seen guys at 1000+ that play worse that "noobs" with a rank of -150.
Also, right now I need more spectre packs than the rest (I need to get some the "rare" classes) So I won't get anything if I keep reseting my characters.

I think that the "ranking" should be calculated by other stuff as points made in one match instead of leveling up and ascending characters.

I am just barely over 100.  I don't play very often due to my schedule.  I am totally okay with a low N7 as I only play multiplayer for fun and to relax.

Promoting till you get to 200 or so will all but eliminate the possibility of getting kicked from lobbies for low N7.

That's what I did anyway. Getting kicked for low N7 happens whether it should or not, and I don't want to deal with it.

I only promoted my classes a couple of times. *shrugs* doesn't matter what my n7 rank is, it's a useless feature.

Depends on the game.
My performance in Bejewelled is horrendous.

No reward - aside for war assets - from promoting, and Bioware screwed up the SP, so...

I rarely promote.

I promote my Soldiers and Sentinel's every time I reach 20th with them from character cards from the packs I buy. I never play them... or rarely anyway and I think I'm on my 3rd go around. I figure if I'm going to keep getting these stupid, crappy cards, I might as well make them do something instead of just keep piling on to a maxed out character.

experiment makes ppl understand the system more. so chances are high N7 means ppl have been trying things and probably know more.

I only care about N7 ranks when I see that rare animal N71 in a lobby and think, "Cool, we can help this guy level up, let's do our damnedest to revive him so he doesn't get frustrated and quit."

I promote because I like to respec and try different builds/races/classes/weapons. Respec cards are cool and all, but how many of those do you actually get x how many matches you play? For me, not that many.

I find that promoting characters has helped me get better at the game in general, as I'm getting more experience playing as lower-level characters and learning to better use cover and such when it's necessary. In other words, I'm not a super-powered Level 20 character all the time, and I learn to survive off of more than power spam as a result.

However, as far as actual N7 rating goes, I'll agree that it seems kinda pointless. There are no actual multiplayer-related bonuses to players for promoting a character. You don't get a credit bonus or any sort of special unlockables. It doesn't even mean that a player has unlocked more weapons/classes than another. It's currently rather meaningless, which is unfortunate, because aside from getting the chance to experiment more with lower-level classes, the only advantage to promoting is a War Asset bonus in the campaign. And honestly, I don't know if I'm gonna bother playing the campaign again anytime soon.

I'm aiming to get all mine up to Level 20 soon-ish, in order to maximise their usefulness in-game. That, and if another promotion-based event like 'Operation: Raptor' rolls around, it'll be a doddle to just promote two classes, then level them back up quickly.

But other than that, I don't really fancy the hassle of having to recreate the characters I carefully and painstakingly designed/named/picked colour schemes for, just for the sake of boosting my N7 rating.

That, and after a while, there's going to be a point where it's going to look daft in the War Assets menu. For example, the entire Alliance Fifth Fleet, at full strength, provides a War Asset rated at '138', yet my N7 Team from multiplayer, after just two promotions from 'Operation: Raptor', is at '150'. If I promote any more, one would rightly assume that my two-dozen MP characters could easily defeat the Reapers on their own, which is just insane...

So promoting your mp character makes them a war asset in the SP, is there a cap on how many characters you can promote?

At first i didn't promote unless I screwed up the build. But only reason why i promote is to increase rank so less chance of me getting voted out on gold.
Thats the main reason why most do it, to get less grief playing on gold.

Will stop or do it less often once i hit high 200's or low 300
Also promote to make bronze more challenging with classes like vanguards/soldiers & with characters like the Krogan/Batarian. Basically classes that im not fond of or im not very good with them to play on silver or gold.

I do the same with my Vanguards and Soldiers, as I never play them.

I don't think I'll ever promote my Human Sentinel or Asari Adept as those are the two that I mainly play.

I currently have Sentinel, Engineer and Infiltrator at level 20, and Adept and Vanguards at level 17 and Soldier at  level 15.

I plan to get them all to 20 and then wait for a promotion event and I will promote 3 or 4 of them.

My N7 is currently 168, as I've only promoted 2 classes during the last event.

- N7 is in no way representative of skill. I have played with plenty of terrible high N7 players.

- There's no multiplayer reward for promoting (with the obvious exception of the recent N7 weekend).

- There are respec cards, so no need to re-level characters when you can just reset powers.

- I'd rather spend my time playing Gold earning the credits to max out Rare/Ultra-Rare weapons than re-leveling a character.

Unless some sort of reward system is implemented for promoting (or there's another promotion multiplayer weekend) I honestly do not see my increasing over 210.
