My geth characters are named for "famous" mecha. For those who don't know what mecha is...yeah, never mind. Human characters I always color in white and black and give them stormtrooper designations. My human soldier is "TK-664"

I'll just post my favorites.

Salarian Infiltrator: Orris
Quarian Infiltrator: Alen'Raza
Turian Soldier: Arkus
Turian Sentinel: Silas

I don't use last names to avoid having to compensate for length limit. Although I imagine it's only a problem for Quarian names, I hate having some characters with last names and others not.

1.Krogan Sentinel is named simply Ojeda, dosn't Ojeda sound very Krogan?
I'm rather proud of him. The colors of his outfit match with the name I chose for him too. I also have a bit of back story for him. He never belonged to a clan (hence the lack of a clan name) he's 758 years old, and made his living as one of the baddest Bounty Hunters out there.

2.Turian Soldier named Aravanitis
3.Salarian Infiltrator named Volmer
4.Batarian Soldier named Blotzzer
5.A Geth (can't remember which one) named Soulless Unit. It developed a sense of humor and chose that name
I'll update my list later I have forgotten some of the other names I got

I like giving them real names and even personalities, I find more satisfaction in the games for it. It's not hard to do, just look at some of the names for the race and pick out phonetics that they seem to like in them. I'll offer a brief tutorial for Quarians:

Quarian names consist of several short parts, tend to like softer sounds and unusual letters and combinations (X, Z, V are not uncommon, Two As put together happens sometimes, and so on). Full names always have an apostrophe dividing individual name from family name (the first name and last name are generally quite short, just four letters each is common, some as short as three, the longest we ever see is only six), and this name is always followed by either "nar" or "vas" signifying "child of" or "crew of" respectively followed by the name of the ship. A complete name can include both of these.

Ex. Tali'Zorah vas Normandy nar Rayya, translated first name would be Tali, last name Zorah, she's of the crew of the Normandy and a child of the Rayya.

You won't have to worry about that though because of the character limits, so I keep it to just the first and last name. My Quarian Infiltrator is Nara'Laan, my Quarian Engineer is Mili'Insia. If you do want to give a ship name you can use pretty much anything, as the Flotilla consists of ships purchased from many different races, and some captains prefer to keep their ship's original name (happens on Earth, it's considered bad luck to change a ship's name after christening).

Further example: Nara'Laan nar Qwib Qwib, she does not have a "vas" because she has not completed her pilgrimage, and thus has not officially joined any crew.

... I don't know why I wrote this, but there you go.

Something I like to do is take words I know and alter them slightly to make them unique.

A mix of names from different nations on Earth and likely names for colonists/spacers for humans (e.g. Bernice Kerr, Petr Asimov). Krogan come from named clans across the series, and in a break from convention, are named after machineguns (e.g. Gatatog Kord, Weyrloc Bren). The rest are as close to the racial naming conventions as the character limit allows, with names given to the Geth platforms for the convenience of other operatives (e.g. Herald).

I did manage to get around that limit with my Quarian Enginer - Jian'Eka vas Io.

I use the nicknames of characters in the military fiction books I write. I pick the names based on which of my characters is most like the character I need a name for.
