Having enjoyed the previous Bioware games, Baldurs gate, NWN etc etc this is the final straw.

The problem is this game is RIDDLED with bugs, technical problems, gameplay imbalance's, its just made the whole experience so frustrating.

There are far less bugs on release in this game than any of the ones you mention, I still recall several gamebreaking bugs in NWN where events didn't trigger I've seen none of that in this game, whatever bugs there are don't influence gameplay so it's not really a big deal.

Anyways off you go. Posted Image

Well "dirty money grabbers" has a historical usage that is ugly... which is why it stood out to me.

Aren't you just trying to be "politically correct"? That's worse than being a troll, I assure you.

I really hope that RPGs don't move away from the stats and numbers in their systems. I worry that such a move would simplify the genre too much. Min-Maxing might be a weakness of all those stats and numbers, but the inherent flexibility in them, the ability to experiment with them, is an important part of RPGs.

I love the Diablo games, but I'd rather if that sort of simpler combat and game style didn't become the RPG norm, if that makes any sense.

With the right system it wouldnt simplify things but just make it all more realistic.

I wouldnt call Assasin's Creed's fighting system that simple, It does have some numbers since you can purchase weapons and armor to improve damage and armor points, but its quite limited. You dont need it to finish the game, it just helps you a bit. The armor extends your life so that is somewhat usefull, but it can be broken and needs to be repared occasionly to prevent that.

The fighting is quite realistic in how the swords clash and how the duelists move, there are spectacular counter attacks, stepping away, you can disarm or pick up weapons of enemies to use them, grab enemies and throw them away or slit their throat, finish off enemies on the floor, and quite some other things.

To me this is real melee combat as it should be, there is still some room for improvement of course, but it definatly raised the standard, as Bioware keeps raising the standard for the story part of the game.

I am of course not saying they should copy the system of Assasin's Creed, I merely gave an example of what I consider to be the best system.

Its a really bad idea to move away from the stats in an RPG game. Stats should be there because the element of luck is as real in a real combat situation as you can imagine. Stats increase or decrease this luck factor and it should be left as is. What is to be added though is Baldurs Gate 2 - neverwinter nights type items that have real time visual and functional effects. DAO had non of those. No boots of speed, cloacks of missplacement or just any item that actually affected the environment. It was a pure stat fight and i found it to be immensely boring and limited. Even freakin WoW (damn i cant even look at the screen without blurring even at the mention of this "game") had items and consumables that made had visual and functional effects on your character.

If you don't like the game, don't play it. That simple.

There's no reason to come running to the forums crying.

no game is perfect, there is always room for improvement. It would be naive to claim any game is perfect.

complaining about a game proves that either you like it or want to like it, otherwise it would not be worth the effort.
