These did not happen very often prior to being in the deep raods, but they have been happening with alarming frequency of late. They almost always happen in battles, usually in larger ones. I end up losing my KB and my mouse. I can watch the battle progress until either it is over, or, until the character I am focused on dies. Either way, I need to restart the game and reload ... as there is no way for me to do *anything* in game (as I have no KB or mouse functionality).
Initially, I dropped the Video setting to Low Low Low and that seemed to fix things, but I just hand another battle in Shale's Home Thaig, with those settings still in place, and lost my KB and mouse again.
Is anyone else seeing this? If needed, I am happy to provide system specs, etc etc.
Thanks.

Are you using a USB KB and mouse or regular ones?
In case of USB, check if other USB devices go offline as well. If that's the case, you could try updating the drivers.
If you use a regular mouse and KB, consider investing in USB.

Using USB
The bug only seems to affect the game. I can ALT TAB and do other things with the keyboard just fine ...

Anyone else seeing this issue?

Actually -- let me be more clear about what happens ...
The mouse will move around. It will even highlight things in game ... it is just that I cannot select anything. I can't right click or left click them. Also, none of the keyboard command will work, including ESC for saving, options, etc, or anything else.
/shrug -- very strange -- but happening enough that quick saves every 5-10 minutes are vitally important

Aaaah!
i just had this happen to me outside Redcliffe castle. All i can do is CTRL+ ALT DEL. I can move the mouse around, highlight, but i can't click, move the camara angle or my PC. I haven't gone back on the game yet, i'm going to try again tomorrow.
Have you installed the 1.02 patch? Because its only happened to me after i installed it, beforehand it was fine and i've been playing the game for nearly 60 hours.

You know what -- that might actually be about when it started happening ... I can't guarantee it though -- it may have happened before 1.02, but certainly it seems to be happening a lot more now that 1.02 is installed.
I wish there was a patch uninstall so I could try it under 1.01 for a while again. It happened to me twice last night again ... annoying.

Did you enable the console in your shortcut?
I know, dumb question, but I found myself in similar situations where I lost my controls and the simple reason was that in the heat of the battle I hit the console key. It being stupidly invisible, I didn't realise it at first and wondered why I couldn't move anymore. So if in doubt, I hit backspace a couple of times and enter and the console gets deactivated and I can continue. Sometimes it's as simple as that...

Mt. Seleya, you could be right, i did have to fix the shale glitch beforehand so that could be the problem
. I'll try it out tonight. Many thanks!

Mt.Seleya you are probably "dead on". I enabled the console just the other day -- to fix my Shale Plot GUID bug, and it has absolutely been happening since then ... the next time it happens, I will o exactly as you propose.
Is that the only way to turn off the console, by the way? Delete the characters that you cannot see then hit?
Thanks so much for this response -- very helpful!

The only one I figured out on my own. With my keyboard it's annoying as hell, I generally need to hit backspace once before entering anything in the console because of my layout, I guess. Maybe it's different with yours. Esc doesn't do anything for me.Adaram wrote...

And you're welcome, glad I could help.

It may have something to do with your system allocation of ram . When running tests on RAM usage while playing DAO, I noticed a progressive increase of RAM usage during play. Starting at 50%, then as time progresses going as high as 73%, and that is with 6gigs. Depending upon your system, you could lose use of peripherals, especially if they are plugged in via USB. Something to think about I guess as a possible cause, but it of course requires long play for several hours to get there, not that this is uncommon with this game... I have to play at night and cut into sleep time, otherwise, I would have to give up making a living or get tossed from my house by my wife.
FYI, ran 50% at startup, progressively increases to 70% over 3-4 hour period on 6 gigs of RAM at 1600mhz. Proc at 3.8 oc, RAID 10k drives x2, Quad-Sli 2x 295 Nvidia cards (you would think you would not need system ram running that much graphics memory right?) My proc even seems to run at a constant 20-25%, whereas on idle, 0-1% processor, no more than 20% ram. windows 7

then again, this could mean nothing to you at all especially if you are using a console... did someone say, "go to bed already", oh that would be me talking to myself. to all you computer users though, if you run into this problem it could be your system crying to stop the punishment of running this game on its resources.

OR... you might have hit the console key.

Just run the game without the console shortcut.
Btw if the problem persists it may be to do with input lag. For ATI users this is the Flip Queue Size modifier in the ATI Tray tools. Reseting it to default got rid of it for me.

I haven't actually played since I posted about this issue, but I am pretty sure it's the console thing. I'll need some dedicated play time to figure out for sure, though. If it keeps happening, I'll probably just get rid of the console enable thing, but long term I'll want it on since I plan to do some mod making with the toolset, etc.
Why does the console have to be blank? Maybe someone can figure out how to make it show!
