I'm obsessed with Dragon Age. I love the world, the lore, the characters, the gameplay, the music, and the game's story. To celebrate my fixation I registered the greywarden.net domain last night and now I'm sharing my excitement with all of you!

Google Apps has been configured to function with greywarden.net, meaning that all e-mail addresses will use a Gmail account interface with all of Gmail's many features. If you're unfamiliar with Gmail, you can read an overview at this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gmail

Mail can be checked at mail.greywarden.net or easily forwarded to other e-mail addresses.

If you would like your own @greywarden.net e-mail address, please send a private message OR e-mail nadina[at]greywarden.net directly. In your request, please include the following:

Your Display Name (this doesn't have to be your real name)
Your Username (for example: Alistair, Duncan, etc. which will look like alistair@greywarden.net)

Please DO NOT post requests to this forum thread...I doubt I'll check it often, and it's likely to get buried, anyway. :( I'll try to bump on occasion.

Update: It looks like I can only create 50 accounts. Get yours before they're gone! 48 accounts left!

In regards to privacy and security:
1. I CANNOT VIEW YOUR E-MAIL. AT ALL. To do so, I would have to log directly into your account, which leads me to my next point...
2. I CANNOT VIEW YOUR PASSWORD. AT ALL. If your password is forgotten, Google will go through the process of restoring it for you. This usually involves a randomly-generated password that you will immediately have to change.
3. There is NO LOGGING of any kind. I can't even see whenever you're logged into your account.
4. All e-mail is handled by GOOGLE. I can't see it. I can't read it. It doesn't even pass through my domain.
5. When your account is set up, you're given a randomly generated password that you will immediately have to change upon logging in. That's the last time I personally touch your password.

As rightly pointed out below, there are security risks you take with ANY e-mail account you sign up for. I chose to use Gmail and Google because Google offers superior protection and privacy of e-mail accounts. The greywarden.net address is just for fun. You're effectively registering for a Google-owned Gmail account.

Anyway...I hope this isn't against any of BioWare's rules or anything...it's just for fun!

If your intentions are good, that's cool - but as an IT professional I also know as a domain holder, I have the ability to read every email that comes through my domain. People need to know this. It's nothing I'd ever do or recommend for anyone else to do.

That is true of regular server based websites, but if you read carefully, they are using Google app engine paired with Google's Gmail. They have no access to your messages, only Google does, as is true of any Gmail Account. It's safe.

This is more or less true.  So can most IT techs at ISPs, so can the NSA without warrant no matter where you live, so can the university you go to and use their email account -

you know, your postal worker can read all your letters too - both the guy who picks up the mail as well as the guy who drops it off.

You're absolutely right. People should be aware that as an administrator, I do have that capability. However, I have no interest in prying into anyone's personal affairs. I wouldn't want anyone looking into my private stuff, so why would I do that to others? :) I do only have the best intentions.

Consider the following security measures:

1. Gmail displays the IP address of the location last used to access your account. If anyone else were to log into your account, it would be immediately apparent.

2. To access your account and your e-mail, I would have to change your password and log in myself. I CANNOT VIEW YOUR PASSWORD. I can only change it.

3. There is no magic window that displays all incoming and outgoing e-mails to administrator eyes. Again, to read anything, I'd have to change your password and log into your account directly.

Gmail is very secure and private, and that's why I chose to use that service. :)

I have no idea how Google Apps works - it's not in my area of expertise. Like I said, if her intentions are good, thats a nice thing to do. I also know that in this world of identity theft and credit card fraud (I've been victim to both), I would not risk using something set up by someone I don't know.

That being said, it'd be a fine email account for non-essential things like registering for game sites, etc.

The other thing to note is, if the OP gets tired of it and doesn't care about it when renewal comes up, all those email accounts will disappear, so don't depend on having it forever.

Nice, try to make me sound like a conspiracy nut. Brilliant move comparing the NSA to some random person posting on a game message board. I suggest you get an account and use all your credit card and banking info through that email account. And I'd look into getting a new mail carrier if I were you. :?

Oh, I have the domain registered for the next year at least. It's reliable hosting, and I'll likely stick with it for awhile.

Goodness, you must have had some bad experiences out there! If the domain were going to shut down, I would give everyone plenty of notice, I assure you. I'm not a bad person. :< Just trying to share my enjoyment of DA:O with others.

Can I apply if I already have a gmail account? I know back when I signed up they were limiting accounts to one per person (although that was back in the invite-only stage).

AFAIK you can indeed. I got about half a dozen gmail adresses. :P

realname@gmail.com (made as my first, back when it was invite only, lucky me to have it)
My old NWN nickname @gmail.com.
My Second Life name @gmail.com (for all 3 SL accounts).

And then a Google App email account for a blog I admin that works like this greywarden one I think.

They're all forwarded to my original Gmail addy though, so I only have to check one inbox (with filters and labels for easy viewing) I only need to log in another account if I want to send an email without sharing my real name.

Just an update:

36 account slots are still available. I've also started working on the main site...though there's nothing to see just yet. :> Wish me luck!
