Who cares. Only someone who's full of themselves enough would care.

And yes, this is 100 percent on the ball.

Western games will generally always have a large western flavor to them. It's not any big surprise. The same can be said for games made in Japan.

As Western games go, it's actually got a lot more diversity in it than other games do, especially compared to the glut of "Americans vs generic Russian/Arab terrorists" games out there.

I agree. Canadian and British terrorists are far more realistic and should have been the main rivals in MW2-3. Couldnt resist...

I'm sure there's enough angry Brits and Canadians out there to dispense some terror if you look hard enough. Image IPB

But you get my point. ;)

As a russian I have no right to complain, really. Gagarin station (first human in space), Tereshkova
system (first woman cosmonaut) , Rozenkov materials.

But the greatest was in ME2: There is a star system named Pamyat (Memory in russian) with four planets : Komarov, Volkov, Dobrovolski, and Patsayev. All of them named in honor of Soviet cosmonauts who died during spaceflight.

Damn, I knew those names felt a bit familiar. I've looked it up, and it was the Soyuz 11 - pretty much the only deaths in the space where they got exposed to vacuum. :(

Yes, let's promote racism by pointing out what races were/weren't represented in the game.

Sorry, I can't abide by this stupidity. Let the designers do their effing job for a change.

I'm offended by the lack of fattys in the game, maybe the volus but that seems to be their natural form.

Also, the lack of character representation from the eastern region of North Dakota is appalling.

At the end of the day though, why does it matter what race all the characters were? This is why I hate lame PC attitudes these days.
It's like that retarded woman that tried to take the Hobbit to court because she didn't get hired as a hobbit - because she was Pakistani. It wasn't some secret racist agenda ****** - The book was set in middle earth, where Hobbits are little englishy types. (but then of course, bleeding heart apologists start saying that maybe Tolkien was racist...)

Since when do fictional works need to represent EVERY nationality or ethnicity? In the future are we going to have a giant checklist?

English... Check
American... Check
Southern Zimbabwean... Check
Inuit ... Che- oh wait, which tribe? We have Alutiiq and Kangiryuarmiutun, but we cant find a guy from the other like 30 different tribes...
Crap, now they're gonna think we are racist... :(

Didn't you know? Only whites can be racist so a game with a white lead hero must have racist undertones. Jokes aside I agree fully. You cannot turn left or right without someone using that word and obviously not having a clue what it actually means. The sad part is those people are 100 percent serious and REALLY do believe that.

I guess BioWare should make the game only in....what......Chinese next time and only translate it to English with subtitles? and make none of the characters white except for supporting ones? The company that made it speaks English as a first language.

I think these "PC mongers" forget that only the DEFAULT Shep is white. I made a black one, an asian one, ect.

get a clue. I think it is more important that they are incorporating a strong female option in. What color the skin you make her shouldn't matter. Only a moron thinks skin color matters so let's go after those morons and leave BioWare alone on this one. This was one of the areas where they did a good job....diversity of PCs and NPCs in this game.

The lot of you are confused on this issue.

1) as an aside, some of you are playing Japanese developed games and don't realize it because the characters aren't space ninjas. Devs there produce many games without Japanese or Asian characters, so it isn't so simple.

2) Even though these game plots or TV shows are set in TEH FUTURE they really aren't "about" the future thematically. They are about the present. The lip service given to a unified Earth and so on are just that. The governments, themes, plot lines, etc all represent what is happening now, and what is happening from a Western point of view. It isn't simple circumstance or coincidence. It's less "racism" than a Western bias. Not the same thing (nor mutually exclusive). The Federation of Trek is basically a centrist Democracy like the US, with a little of the EU nation's codified altruism. Perfectly reflected what some hoped the world would look like during the time the shows were aired. Other works are more cynical, where corporations have the power and character of nations (Robocop, Alien), also reflects what they saw happening at the time in the 80s.

The devs went so far as to envision a world where blond hair/blue eyed people are a rare exception. That's their idea of futurism, and about as far as they really go with it. Its window dressing.

In a way, it's good that the devs didn't try to envision the future too much. Remember Blade Runner and how it had all of the West Coast purchased by Japan by the early part of the 2000s? Boy, were they wrong.

3) It isn't "racist" to bring up the topic. It can be an interesting discussion if we don't back each other into corners about what nation will become the hegemonic power in the future or who is better or worse.

I agree that it is fine to discuss this topic, but people that complain about race in the ME games.....it is not the game that has the problem in that case. If someone's identity is so wrapped up in where they were born or what color they are that how many people in this game are 'westerners' bothers them seeing as how this game was made in the west.....

What is next? people who are infatuated with Liara start complaining that the game didn't star an Asari instead of a human?

Why would anyone complain about that when it should've been Kal'Reegar taking on everyone?

The game is in multiple languages already. We're talking about more diversity in racial makeup. This might be a shallow thing for me to say, but I'd love more of the character's I ran into to be asian, especially the females. B) A little sick with nearly every female in the ME universe being a shoulder lengh red head.

I think there's more diversity than you realize, but the developers made all the characters look like white Americans for some reason.  Like for example, did you know Admiral Hackett is Argentinian?  I certainly wouldn't have known that unless I read it in the codex.  His appearance and voice is not anything like a South American.

I would argue that Hackett looks VERY Argentinian.

Was Miranda Australian? I was under the impression that she's from a space lab somewhere. The accent was genetically engineered.

And I agree with this topic whole heartedly. There weren't nearly enough Dutch people in this game!

I pointed out that I think this game is quite diverse and used some sarcasm to drive that point home and all you can do is post drivel.
