ME like all scifi settings has the issue of multiple planets and even ships or stations of birth for people. What are you then other than just Human? would a kid born on Mars to parents from say... Pittsburgh call themselves "Martian-American"? =p

The Quarians had it right. just ident someone with their location of birth.

 I think there's more diversity than you realize, but the developers made all the characters look like white Americans for some reason.  Like for example, did you know Admiral Hackett is Argentinian?  I certainly wouldn't have known that unless I read it in the codex.  His appearance and voice is not anything like a South American.

It reminds me of the movie "21", supposed to be based on a true story. In the movie, these MIT students are all white. Every one. In the true story, they're all asian, every one. Funny.

Here's a question. Would you play this game if the main characters, including Shepard, were defaulted Asian? Say Shepard, Joker, Ashley, and Kaiden all had asian features. Would you still play the game? Or what if of those particular characters, none of them were white, but could be of any race. Would that not attact you? Me personally, it wouldn't bother me. What I mentioned before about the movie "21" is a deliberate decision on the part of the producers to make the main characters white, even though all the characters were asian. Still an American story, they were all just asian. It was deliberate, not an unconcious decision. It's possible it's the same with Mass Effect. They figure they need more white people to appeal to the demographic. I think this approach is obsolete and outdated. I don't think people are going to care so much on those sorts of details in this day and age.

Yes i agree. From now on, the devs should make sure that everyone of their main characters are picked from every race and religion so as to make sure everyone feels represented. A world where a morrocan christian is not a main character is not a world i want to live in.

I doesn't have to be that extreme. I just would like some diversity. There are 5 recent hires in my job I'm doing now. 2 of us are white, but one is part native American, one is black, one is half black/half white, one is filipino. This is just a typical makeup of American life. To me, if I go somewhere and everyone's white, nowadays it just feels strange.

Which is fine because I highly doubt BW is concerned about some forum Asian guy wanting a game full of Asians when he can quite simply create an Asian Shepard.

Do you think Chinese video game companies create games full of whites? What about Japan? Seems to me you would be best served to move there and enjoy the abundance of Asian character dominated games. I find myself wondering if you are serious about this or just trolling because I simply do not see how a "man" can concern himself with such nonsense.

Well almost all of the characters in JRPGs certainly LOOK white...

Well almost all of the characters in JRPGs certainly LOOK white...

Huh, actually they do. They seem to distinctively Japanese styled, but they all look white. I don't play Japanese RPGs, I'm just commenting from the games I've seen advertised.

There's always Jade Empire if you want to play a BioWare game where every character in the entire game (except 1 joke character) is Asian.

Played it. Liked it. Wished there were more. This is by no means a game stopper for me. I wouldn't have even mentioned anything if anyone hadn't brought it up, but since someone did, I did realize that if the premise of ME was true, then there should likely be more asians as main characters, given how much we're already starting to homogenize as time progresses and our society becomes more technically advanced. That's all I'm saying. Not a critique so much as an observation.

You don't have to be intelligent in any manner to know the world has a way about it and that way typically ebs high to low on superpowers. It has happened since the dawn of civilization and there is no reason to not think it will happen in the states. I doubt it happens in 200 years, much to the dismay of Anti-Americans/Liberals/and the like but I wouldn't be surprised either. I would be more than willing to bet China declines sooner than that based on a plethera of reasons that another poster earlier stated - to which I agree. It is pretty common knowledge that most of their might comes from stolen or purchased tech anyhow. America is also in a great spot with a considerable amount of untapped natural reserves, being protected by two oceans and considerably fertile farming lands. If America does in fact decline, that is also bad news for many other nations so the internal terrorist types better not hope for it in their lifetime.

Again though, you REALLY seem to want to talk about this issue......

I find it amusing how some Americans get offended by the notion that America might not be the dominant country forever. There are many ways to interperet the data. You could look at current trends and extrapolate, which results in China surging ahead, or you could say "China might fall and America could retake the lead". This sounds like optimistic thinking to me, but there is some evidence that China might stumble, but there's also some evidence they could adapt. China's changed so much in the last 20 years it's very difficult to predict which way they'll go. Speculating they might pull ahead of us is not hatred towards America, it's just an honest assessment of the facts.

I don't see any mention of nuclear war. It's really difficult to kill a billion people short of nuclear war.
