She's pretty effin' French. The only way they could've made it more obvious is if they gave her a beret, a mustache and a cigarette.
I'd like to point out that there are a few benighted places other than France that are afflicted with French speech. Quebec, Belgium, Switzerland, and a variety of African countries.
The fact that she speaks with a French accent doesn't say a lot about her nationality and not much more about her ethnicity.
All the country you said have their own VERY distinctive accent while speaking french. The accent Dr Michel is the basic french sound.

But atleast you can make Shepard look asian or black.
Ehh.. I have played around, and I can't really make a good black person. They always come out looking mixed with asian, hispanic, or indian. The creator isn't really good in terms of that. The only character that looks like a typical black person is Jacob. Udina has fine hair and is clearly mixed, Anderson seems to be a little as well. It's not a huge problem, and I make do, but nah I don't think any Shepards look actually black. I know a lot of blacks are mixed in their heritage, but its too prominent in the creator for mass effect.
If anyone has a good example, I would be happy to see it.

It's what, Eastern European? Which I suppose is closer to the east, but I think most people would still consider it western. Also it's now canon that Tali is a while girl with circuits on her face.Noelemahc wrote...
What about Tali and Shala'Raan with their fun ethnic accents? If not for the mishmash of the rest of the named Quarians (with Aussie Daro'Xen and Brits Han'Gerrel and Zaal'Koris, as well as American Kal'Reegar), we'd call the Quarians Space Gypsies!Yeah Javik's definitely the least westerly character.

Yeah and all the heroes in Japanese video games are Asian. So should we be pissed at that too OP? Really get a new hobby if it bothers you so.

It's nice when they try to show diverse accents, but that shouldn't be an expectation.

Why do you care about what people are protrayed, OP? I mean seriously, do you not have anything better to do with your time other than kvetch about what nationalties are in a video game?
Go away. People like you who worry about such things are part of the problem, not the solution

He's kind of racist against those 932 - F5 people. He complains how they always steal jobs from good hard working Mindoiricans.

I realize now why I didn't think of it, because I was thinking of her in ME1, where her accent is more subdued. I wasn't thinking of ME3, where yes, she's quite French.bennyjammin79 wrote...

There really is no such thing as black. African Americans and Africans are extremely different from eachother because of selective, genetic diversity changes that took place hundreds of years ago.
Even Jacob, if he is from North America, would not be under any type of typical expectation you would be looking for to fit the category of an African American. No such thing really exists.

(Just nitpicking here - speaking as an Aussie, Daro'Xen has a British accent.

I'm guessing that since people know Claudia Black is Australian, they figure she's doing an Aussie accent there.

Claudia's accent is wierd - it doesn't quite sound Australian to us. Possibly because I think she did a fair amount of work in New Zealand which might have morphed her accent a bit. I know when I first saw Farscape I was surprised to find she was actually Aussie.AlanC9 wrote...
