Why wasn't the ME2 LI an automatic squadmate in ME3?

I can understand the other characters from ME2  being discarded but what was the idea behind ignoring the LI? It's not like it was too much work to write them into ME3 I mean they're there afterall.

Why would they be? That would be four additional party members (five if you include Samara) each with completely different personalities. That would be a ton of additional lines and resources, and they aren't characters you can just copy-paste like the VS.

You know, there was once a game they made in the recent past where you could actually choose between which of a number of squad members you could get among other things that changed your experience. I can't remember which one that was though, it was so long ago, I do remember people like ME2 though, so maybe that was it.

So everything comes down to resources? What was the point of being taken over by EA if it seems like there was never enough "resources". I mean at the very least the LI could have been a temporary squadmate.

Seemed appropriate after someone dropped a not enough time makes bad things ok comment.

OP has a valid point.

Sure, it would take extra time and cost Bioware/EA more money but it would undeniably make the game better. Unfortunately, Bioware/EA have a schedule to stick to and clearly don't want to spend money unnecessarily.

Why are LIs so much more important than other characters? Characters like Jacob deserve a spot in the squad more than characters like Mordin, just because you get a cheesy "romance" scene?

It would have been a lot of extra work, but in hindsight would have made a huge difference, the ME3 squad got a lot of heat for being lackluster.

And think of all the other variables already in the game, like the Wrex and Mordin replacements, which most people will only see on Youtube, all that extra work for something only a small part of the players ever see, yet the squad doesn't get anything besides the VS alternative.

Replacements are lame. I'd prefer real consequences instead, but it seems like keeping the game on a straight line is the most important point in ME3 when it comes to roleplay and story.
