Did you have a particular protagonist in mind for this or would you be in favor of equal-opportunity bait-and-switching with an appropriately cringe-worthy female NPC? Maybe as a special option at the brothel?Octan92 wrote...
I say have this really attractive stud (well-built, eyes that make you melt, the works) as a romancable character. The relationship eventually leads sex. The morning after you roll over to find... Emile de Launcet, complete with cheesy grin.
You know have a whole Nutty Professor thing going, instead of love potions it could even be something like shapeshifting.
It's not really goofy, really more sadistic. But the reactions would be priceless from everybody in and out of game.

Well, I suppose you could have Elthena, or maybe the ghost of Hawke's mother show up.

Yes!
I would love to see references, I love it when BioWare appease the the fandom.
"Ever been to Kirkwall? Bloody place looks the same all about."
Varric's Chesthair needs to be refered to. It's a must.
I also think a regular in the forums should get some attention. Dave of Canada, Maria, hell even a mod like John Epler...

I think there's too much humor in Dragon Age. That's not to say that it isn't absolutely hilarious. I just feel that it breaks the tone of the game. I believe they should scale it back a little bit.
What he means is "MORE FART JOKES!"
Yes! Here's an idea - you eat a "questionable burrito" from the local tavern, and gain a temporary ability which is an area of effect fart. It would be a big gas cloud that knocks all enemies to the ground, complete with sound effects and all! I can only imagine the hilarious comments your party members would make in response.

I wouldn't consider a joke every 30 minutes to be a particularly high rate of humor.
Given that some of my favourite "old school" games like BG2 (Lilarcor and Minsc; Edwina; etc) , and PST (Nordom and Morte... oh Morte... so much awesome) probably had more of it. PST maybe isn't as "serious" of a tone, but the party banter in particular helps a lot and I loved the sass between Alistair and Morrigan, and pretty much anything involving Isabela or Varric.
See, I thought the banter between Anders and Ogren was hysterical. I never in all my gaming life had my side hurt so much hearing those two.

Hmm... I understand what you mean, but maybe if Dragon Age 3 was more grim, more of these jokes could be used. I find that having humour in a very grim game works perfectly. For example: The Witcher 2.
That game is so dire and sad most of the times that when something funny comes, you end up in a hyterical fit of laughter.
The Trolls in Act II and Roche's "spice merchant" thing. (He used the Emperor of Nilfgaard's name.) We also have the various Tolkien references in Act II (on Iorveth's path.) Like "NO! It's Durin's Bane!"
Also:
"Piece of Lembas"
Oh what a brilliant game!

Sten is more subtle in his humour. I think it's because of the things he does. He doesn't 'intend' to be funny, he just is. Oghren is the kind of 'in your face' funny.

Characters are cracking jokes all the time- lets hear a few of them just bust out laughing after a joke.
For example,
*Morrigan makes comment*
*Sten makes counter comment*
*Morrigan makes another comment*
*Sten cracks joke in deadpan tone of voice*
*Alistair and Oghren absolutely lose it and have gut busting laughter*
I think it would add to the moment, not simply relying on the player to laugh, but showing that the characters in the game have great senses of humor and will laugh right along with us.
Plus, laughter is addictive. Some people have very funny laughs, and when you hear them, you laugh in response, even if you didn't hear the joke.

In my experience, the most hilarious conversations happen in funerals. Everybody's just so high-strung and emotionally charged. Humour is a great way to release tension and find funny angles to bleak and black situations. Fantasy stories tend to include very stressful situations so cracking jokes just makes sense to me.
In my opinion, Bioware makes the funniest games in business and that laughter I get is extremely important to me. Humour is subjective, of course, but to me, the balance is pretty much perfect in both Dragon Age games. I'd say Bioware has more humour than an average game because of the strong emphasis on companions. When the protagonist is constantly surrounded by a group of friends, joking occurs naturally. That happens in real life too when a group of friends meet: they joke a LOT. It's an essential part of getting to know people better and getting attached to them.
I've also found that in any genre of fiction, the works that make me laugh the most have the power to make me cry the most. Again, it's the attachment through humour.
Anyway, great suggestions in this thread. I'm a shockingly terrible comedian so I just leave it up to others to make up more.

Example-
Character A(squadmate/companion) is a loner, has had a hard life, and is not prone to laughing.
Through your interactions with Character A, you can either cement their idea that the world is a cold dark place with no joy in it, or you can get them to lighten up.
Now, lets fast forward a bit. Characters B and C are talking, Character A is along for the ride.
Branching path time- Path A is the "cold dark world" path, Path B is the "lighten up goddamn it" path.
*Characters B and C discuss something about Character B's luck sucking, Character C cracks a joke*
Path A-
Character A- "Heh. That's the world for you. Don't blame yourself. Blame everyone else."
Path B-
Character A-"BAHAHAHAHAHAHA, damn. Sucks to be you, aha. Ahahaha. AHAHAHAHAHA"
^
Through your interactions with Character A, you've either kept him with his negative view of the world, or changed him significantly into a much happier person.
All this being shown through Character A laughing at a joke.

Not exactly as you mention it but the two have a mutual understanding and allthough you do not hear them laughing out loud they smile at each others "****y" talk in a way of "I love you too!".

I was considering saying have Cullen would turn into Emile, but I couldn't think of a way to make it believable.
As for a cringe-worthy female counterpart, I can't really think a good one. A broodmother would be the worst, but not believable. Maybe Lady Helmi, but I would probably have to say hag Flemeth, not the sexy-grandma version.

I didn't play Legacy, so I can't comment.
But I mean legitimate laughter. Actual laughter.
Not just chuckles, giggles, and simple "haha's".
I mean legit gut busting laughter. Like falling on the floor, kicking your feet around, and just LOSING IT.
And if they stay on their feet, at least extremely obnoxious laughter. Good laughing. Happy laughing. Loud laughing.
Expression. Tons of expression. Going wide eyed, pointing at the victim of the joke, going quiet because they lost all the air in their lungs.
That kind of laughter.
