There's a 'reveal' trailer floating around that is a scene from the Witcher 2, however. That one's 100% fake.

And the comments are 100% hilarious.

Dear God.

DEAR.

GOD.

People...they are...they aren't seriously thinking this is DA3, right?

I imagine laughing would just come across as very Uncanny Valley, despite being a nice idea. Not unlike Leliana trying to sing in DA:O.

Heeeey, I liked Leliana's Song.

Image IPB There is a time and a place for everything; and that includes laughing.

Maybe you cannot imagine it maybe but I know I do it a lot Image IPB.

Especially with some party banter I heard on DA.

How about a dwarf wrestling a nug?

A mabari sleeping on his back atop a doghouse

Someone asking why they're called Grey Wardens when they wear blue and white tabards.

A demon in the form of a child offering the protagonist three paths to a weapon to destroy a powerful enemy. The paths are color coded red, green, and blue. But the only "true" way to proceed is to attack the demon.

More murder knife!!! Watch it come out in the most random places. You can never get enough murder knife being embedded 6 inches in someone's skull. DA2 didn't have enough murder knife!! The majestic knife with unknown origins.

This is what happens when an oppressed elf joins the ranks of the Grey Wardens and goes on a killing spree. Behold the power of the murder knife!!

Wait...is that goofy or just sadistic to want that...:crying:

I think it would also come across like laugh track in a sitcom.

I would love to see a stand-up comedian in a tavern somewhere. "So, a Halla, a Mabari, and a Nug walk into a bar" type of horrible jokes...when you walk in and heckling from the crowd... I would love that so much. I think one of my favourite parts of KOTOR was when you get to tell that Mandalorian joke to the Sith Lady on Korriban. So, something like that would be great. Not everywhere, but once or twice.

There is a reason why you don't get a lot of belly-laughs from characters in DA.

Well, there might be -another- reason, but on our end, at least, it's because it's actually surprisingly difficult to get a character to laugh in a 'realistic' way. Either it looks awkward and robotic, or it looks extremely contrived (slapping their knees, holding their belly, etc.) I don't think there are any scenes in DA2 where you actually -see- a character laugh from in front - when someone -does- laugh, we tend to hide it with camera cuts and the like.

I'd like to get some motion capture of someone laughing for future projects, though... where's my notebook...

This may seem contrived, but I have always thought that one of the best examples of animated laughing can be seen in the Shrek movies. There are many examples when the characters in those movies range from animated chuckles and smirks to full on belly laughs.

After all, if they can make an animated cat look both realistic and laugh believably, that's an impressive feat in my book.

Naked and drunken Oghren riding a gorilla into battle against the Darkspawn.

Is it disturbing? Yes. Is it weird? Yes. Is it creepy? Most definitely.

But would it be absolutely hilarious, if done right (both the act itself and subsequent dialogue with him)?

Abso-frickin-lutely

And, since we've apparently got both Allen and John looking at this thread... can we throw TEWR a bone here and give him a dwarf riding a gorilla mount? I've been hearing him campaign for this for years now it seems and it has me in stitches with the visual every time.

Conversely, I have a bit of a scene rattling around my head that could be put in... but only if the Shapeshifting and Ranger classes are brought back.

You come across a group of adventureres surrounded by Hurlocks, fighting them to the death. One of your companions recognizes them as a group called the Rangers of Power and, upon seeing one of them use a Shapeshifting ability, your companion yells out "Go, go Rangers of Power! You mighty, morphing Rangers of Power..."

I feel like I am going to get banned for some of these suggestions.

@Fast Jimmy and @Redux :
I have also seen the "riding gorillas and battlebears" into battle idea floating around for a while now,and think it would be absolutely hilarious. Let Redux see Oghren in all his glory lol.:D

On the other hand,I am dying to see the Mad Hermit from DA:O working in a Tourist Information Booth kind of thing someplace in Thedas. You and your party / tourists would go up to him, asking for directions or sightseeing tips, and he would just be himself...
"A question for a question,an answer for an answer." I suspect he himself would become the tourist attraction.=]

This is the third or fourth time I've seen you mention this. How did you come up with it?!

More hilarious item references like the Lamppost in Winter staff.

There was a mod for the original Deus Ex called the Malkavian Mod ™.
It was made by and featured as protagonists PlanetDeusEx forumites. And general passers-by NPCs were called nOObs =]

Theres more than one way to get a VA to laugh ^_^ it be a fun project to record some laughter from the VA. Just stuff from bloopers etc... I'm sure there are some very funny recordings that the actors do which makes them burst out in laughter.

As for motion capture... I don't think it's necessary, but it would be cool.

No. Just no. BG2: ToB has a few references to active forum members (Gromnir and Sir Kalthorine) and BG2:SoA has references to real historical people (Reynald de Chatillon). The wink at the camera is way, way too broad. It's the same problem I have with face-scanned celebrities in the game, even in DLC.

Some people want to just play the game. They don't want it to be an advertisement for another product, franchise, or what have you.

1. I found simfamsp`s idea of forumite / moderator REFERENCES - aka winks - amusing, but we are just playing around with very goofy ideas in this thread.VERY goofy.
I certainly did not put forth mine to be taken seriously / be implemented. I am not a dev, thank the Maker.
What a messed up game that would be lol.

Perhaps the Deus Ex Mod comparison was not the best, since it was a mod - fan-made by nature, and a completely different animal.

2.  But I see what you mean, and I do not particularly enjoy full-blown advertisements or face-scanned "celebrities" in games, either. (In my case,Allers).
If they appear,I will just have to live with them,I suppose.

Nah, I have to disagree.

Those laugh tracks are clips of the "audience"(an outside force) laughing after a joke.

In the video games, the characters laughing are just that- the characters themselves expressing emotion.

I think its entirely different.

The risk is that the characters may be laughing at a joke the player doesn't find funny, but I think its a risk worth taking when you consider just how real it makes the characters feel.

It just seems a little old that after a joke is made, no one in-game laughs.

I honestly don't remember how I came up with that idea. I simply did and now it's an idea that I want to happen Image IPB.

To John Epler's dismay, I imagine. Image IPB

But we also need to have the gorilla as a companion. Or a summon. I'm not picky, so long as I can have a gorilla fight with me in battle. And hopefully I can equip armor on the gorilla.

That's the beauty of it. The more you think about it the funnier it gets.

And I support the mighty morphing Rangers of Power.

I wouldn't consider a joke every 30 minutes to be a particularly high rate of humor.

Given that some of my favourite "old school" games like BG2 (Lilarcor and Minsc; Edwina; etc) , and PST (Nordom and Morte... oh Morte... so much awesome) probably had more of it. PST maybe isn't as "serious" of a tone, but the party banter in particular helps a lot and I loved the sass between Alistair and Morrigan, and pretty much anything involving Isabela or Varric.

Pfff Isabela + group = epic. I like her alot when she talk to Aveline.. hehe!
