I don't hate Liara but I must admit she did annoy me on Thessia. When she said "maybe next time the alliance can chip in for air support!!" while harvesters were blowing stuff up I wanted to shoot her in the face. Really Liara? Okay next time I will contact the decimated alliance forces, who you know are kind of busy with earth, and see if they can spare a fleet to help another lost cause over here on Thessia.

I think you misunderstood her a bit there.  I took it that she was just expressing her appreciation for having the gunships helping out with a slightly wry comment.

Arrogance is as intrinsic to the asari character as aggression is to the krogan. Liara's biased reaction to seeing asari suffer in the war was understandable, just not particularly admirable.

It wasn't Liara's reaction to the fall of Thessia that bothered me but the other characters reacting to Liara's mental state of mind. "Go speak with Liara."

It would've been a good game momment if was Ash not Shepard that consoled Liara.

It was more than the fall of her homeworld...
She just found out her religion is a lie, her government sat on Prothean technology while the galaxy burned, and her mother hid Prothean artifacts from her, a Prothean archaeologist...

Also, Cerberus got away clean with what they needed to finish the super weapon, rendering all of her work up to this point useless...

It's a quintuple whammy...
I'd be worried about her too...

If Liara's a civilian and not a trained soldier, does that mean I can kick her off my ship?

You have been posting A LOT of threads lately. Most threads have been complaining about people complaining. Nice logic.

And sure it doesn't make sense for a scientist/broker to be a little less familiar with death and destruction than lifetime soldiers, now does it? No, of course not, because you are not thinking logically. Liara is also a woman. Women are full of emotions. Especially when their planet is being obliterated and they are not used to seeing things like that. Stop whining, it is you who are annoying.

This argument is so dumb. Liara has killed many more men than 99.9% of soldiers in the universe over the last 5 years of her life.

She'd probably "console" Liara by reverting to her Sergeant role and telling her to stop lying in bed crying like a little girl, and to go do something useful instead.

Which wouldn't actually be a bad way to handle it.  Liara doesn't need a shoulder to cry on at that point, just something to snap her out of despair and guilt.

More than all of those though, Thessia falls and there's no one coming to help her people unlike what happens on Earth and Palaven. Their only hope was the Catlayst, and that was snatched from them. It's the classic low point where the hero and cast have to dust off and struggle on.

If you went there, took Vendetta, found out the Citadel was the Catalyst without Cerberus ever getting involved, and went from there, Liara wouldn't be as upset.

To quote Mel Brooks.

Someone falling down a manhole is comedy, you slipping on a banana peel is a tragedy.

He meant that about comedy...but oddly enough is strangely apt here. When Liara had to see other races get crushed by the Reapers it was just gloomy... but when she sees it with here own eyes to her own homeworld... she hits an emotional break. Shepard had to experience his at the start and he is not left with any time to even catch a breath.

Actually you get scenes were people interrupt Shepard in his quarters when he is having his dreams. You can decide on how Shepard reacts and says. Now guess what, you are the one who is interrupting Liara when she has time for herself.

Technically speaking she locked herself up in her room and decided to brood. You went into her room yourself. It is not like she would refuse to go another mission or just sits in a corner all day and does nothing. She didn't even asked you to come. You effectively went to see her when she was having her private me time at a moment she had time to do so. So complaining about her emotional state there is... a little ridiculous.

Which happens, if Shepard goes to console her. She immediately gets to work helping refugees.

A Shepard romancing Liara should have still been able to hug Liara after the Fall of Thessia.

Liara's past: She was a child of 102. In human years that's about 18. Her mother tried to kill her. She killed her mother. She never knew who her father was (until she became Shadow Broker). Fought against the Reapers in the battle for the Citadel but more as a biotic support for Shepard. Her first lover, Shepard, was KIA on mop up missions against Geth by the Collectors. She stole the body from the Shadow Broker who was going to sell the body to the Collectors (working for the Reapers) with a friend of hers Feron, who was captured and tortured for two years by the Shadow Broker.

She began her own information brokering on Illium, but she was at first being watched by the Shadow Broker, but also being protected by the matriarchs and watched by them. She is very naive, and paranoid. She covers up her emotional vulnerability by keeping people at an emotional distance and keeping her feelings inside. She doesn't want people to see them because she fears they might find something to exploit -- it's that paranoia again. It's a different expression of it than Aria -- Aria expresses hers in arrogance. Liara is just quiet.

Then she sees Thessia and the war hits home, and not just her home planet but the city where she grew up. This hit her hard. There were already cracks in her armor from Palaven, Earth, but she was able to patch them up, but now the patches failed to hold.

The comment about sparing a few ships.... look at your war assets. Earth alliance has the most powerful fleet in the galaxy, and she knows this. She also knows they're tied up as are the Turians.

To be honest though, it did annoy me everytime we killed a Banshee she would get all upset saying "that used to be a person!" I just wish my Shepard would shout "what do you think all those husks we've killed used to be!? Or those Marauders!? Am I complaining? Is Garrus? No! So for the love of god, stop whining and deal with it!"

WTF are you talking about? There's whole scenes with Garrus and the Primarch whining. Just cause one has a female voice and the other is male. You guys won't last long in marriage. /rant

That's assuming they make it that far.

That's assuming they even want to get married. Just sayin'.

Amen to this. It was a weird scene. Should have had a lot more emotion and compassion between the two. That should have been Shepard coming to her rescue, instead he gave another pep talk... which... I guess I can understand. But to see a softer side of Shepard there would have been nice as well... and THEN the pep talk.

Very good point, sir. Many people overlook all that. It was far more than just her planet falling to the Reapers (as if that isn't devastating enough). In fact when you go to talk to her afterwards, EDI is already encouraging her about her mother and that Benezia didn't tell Liara about the beacon probably to protect her. So, right as you walk in you hear about the other big issue that was weighing on her mind: her mother. Add that to the list of things you said, and that's a huge plate of emotions to have to deal with.

"Oh my planet just fell and my people are being turned into monsters! Woe is me!" Newsflash Liara: that just happened to all of us, and it was just as traumatic. Buck up, move on, and get revenge.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Someone else finally said it. On my third play through, I had had enough of ethno-centrism from the Quarians. By the time I got to Thessia, I wanted to put the game on mute because Liara was so ****ing annoying! "These monsters are destroying my people!" "My people! My people!" and this after months (in-game time) of traveling with Shepard watching it done to every other race!

It's like the people that wrote Thessia didnt pay attention to the rest of the game.
