Edit: I have a problem with these killing moves, not phantoms.

I just charged an unshielded phantom, and im about to do a nova blast on her and suddenly when my character is in the air to drop down and make the blast, he just stops and gets that toothpick of a sword right in the chest. NOTE that i charged her to help another teammate get rid of her, so i used teamwork. It would be nice if people would support me in this, there has already been another player who made a thread about this. Calling this "adding to the difficulty" is just stupid. Dont get me wrong, i like this game, but there are some things i think they could improve. This ONE THING is a start at least....

And please, dont give me any smartass replies on why i should not go into close combat with a phantom. I played a VANGUARD, in case you dont know thats the class thats made for UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL combat. Having a firefight with a phantom is pretty much useless anyway............

1. Just because you're a vanguard doesn't indicate auto charging.

2. Every class has an enemy designed to counter their main damage dealing mechanic and you just publicly failed Vanguard 101.

3. Lag is something you're going to have to adjust for every single new match unless you are the host.

1. So im just supposed to stand back and not help my teammates?

2. Vanguards are CLOSE COMBAT SPECIALISTS. Anything similarly oriented should not be able to easiely best something like a vanguard in close combat as it would with an infiltrator. So because you have trouble at being able to be able to counter the given situation with any class you choose, doesnt mean anyone else does.

3. No lag, i was the host.

So you think its ok when you are about to shuve an omniblade to the face, launch a nova strike or tackle with your krogan (You are actually in the middle performing the following actions), and all of a sudden your character just decides to stop what he was about to do and allow his enemy to kill him?

What they really need to do is make phantoms more easily staggered, at least by biotic charge. Why have a class that can't use it's primary ability against certain enemies? Charge should easily have enough force behind it to stagger a 120 lb woman wearing light armor...especially since it staggers bigger and heavier enemies like Ravagers, or Geth Hunters/Pyros.

I like your response. You play on the xbox 360? If so, then feel free to add zRz Tyr. I have been tempted at playing on gold, but having trouble with getting the right people to help me.

canned animations FTW. Once got insta-killed by a banshee despite the fact that I was 10-15 yards away and on the move away from it/her.
Luckily, this does not happen often, but I do worry about it anytime a "big bad" gets close-ish.

Killing moves add some depth to combat, I appreciate the fear they inspire, specially when playing kroguard. A little tension is ok, just don't try to out smart the insta kills, just avoid em all together.

Also in the case of phantoms, make sure they aren't in the middle of a stagger animation when you charge, otherwise your charge will end right as they recover and out comes the toothpick blade. I generally leave phantoms for other teammates when Kroguarding, unless I'm alone in which case they are a piece of cake to take down. The risk is when someone tries to help a guy Biotic Charging and the key stagger messes up.

I try that direction thing out and see if it works. These are the kind of answers im looking for i guess. Thanks for the reply.

Banshee teleporting through a wall/stairs and instantly grabbing you is ridiculous.

I feel like killing moves involve some sort of instantaneous indoctrination.

Like my character just stops what he's doing in front of phantoms and lets her rape him. It's ridiculous, especially when she's one shot from death and in that time he's just standing there like a retard he could be retreating or getting shots off.

It's like auto stasis. I hate it.

I feel the same thing as you do about these killing moves.

Well you have to admit, its a little bit ridiculous when a phantom stabs a krogan with their *cough* swords.

hehe true, but then again phantoms have a lot of ridiculousness associated with them.

"My little palm gun does more damage than sniper fire!"

I like the accuracy they have with it.........

Host when playing a vanguard and don't charge banshees... problem solved.

I did host that match. And i NEVER charge banshees. It bugs me that they can just perform their killing moves, and your character just stares at them.

Then you either didn't notice it melee or you are making something up... all mobs but banshee have to do a melee attack first.   If you don't believe me I could go digging for the official post about the mechanic.

I think some of it has to do with the de-sync between you and the host player, but yes, it's pretty crappy when you find yourself locked in the death animation from a mile away.

Read the other comments. A guy said that to me, and i responded with she propably did a slash first. I think its legit that they have to do a normal attack first. What i meant is, when they begin their little killing move and your character just stands there and goes "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! :O" thats bothering me.

I just got killed by an invisible Phantom.

Not cloaked or anything like that, just invisible.

This happens a lot to me as well, invisible enemies. Actually they are not that invisible, their position is just not updated any longer on your screen. Happens most often with enemies thrown out of stasis. You shoot at them, they do not take any damage, but they are shooting at you as well - and YOU take the damage. This is when I run away and hope that a team mate has the right position of the bad guy on his scr

They were too busy looking at the shiny blade.

"It's so beautiful......"

And yeah, I agree phantoms can be kind of a pain if you play the wrong class, but IMO Banshees are the bane of a Vanguard's existence. About the only safe time to charge them is when they're in the middle of an attack animation. Also a good way to dodge the glowing ball of slow/painful death they throw at you, but I'm getting off topic. :P I don't think they should get rid of the insta-kill moves though. I know people are probably going to get on my case for saying this, but I like the challenge. Especially when I play as a Vanguard...if there was no instakill move, soloing Silver/Gold would be laughably easy.

I like the tension when I hear or see a phantom or a banshee. I support their ability to instakill and its effect on us when we play.

I also like that banshees are immune to charge (or if they're not, I'd like it if they were. Not sure that's the case)

Of course not! Keep the killing moves, just give the player a chance of retaliation ( If thats the right word, dont really know the meaning of it. Im not a native english speaker)

There is a chance of retaliation, just not for the person getting grabbed. If your teammates kill it first or stagger it with biotic explosions, they'll let go of you. The Banshee is actually the easiest one to do this with because she has one of the slowest insta-kill animations (as opposed to the Phantom...by the time your ally sees you getting grabbed it's already too late to react.). If I really need to save my ally from the Banshee, I just whip out a missile and shoot it. It takes quick reflexes, but then what doesn't in this game?

I hate it that you have to rely on others for something like this, ESPECIALLY if you are a big and strong, beautiful krogan thats does not need anything else but ammo.

Well, this is a multiplayer game....I think the point of it is to work with other people, no?

True. But whats stopping your character (other than your teammates) from not acting like a retard when hes about to get a killing blow.

I think I have freed a squadmate from a Banshee killing animation with a Widow shot. Is that possible or did someone do something else at the same time that did it?

hehe dang, sucks then.  Not sure what you could do about it but it seems like the game had already decided you were going to die.

Phantoms have always been able to interrupt Nova with their stab-instakill, they were doing it in the demo. Really considering how Nova invincibility frames work on most other attacks, is it really a big deal Phantoms' stab works... There's already simply solution, don't Nova on top of a Phantom. Nova has a pretty large radius, just backpeddling immediately after Charging and Nova at range.

After the first time I was stabbed by a Phantom during Nova while playing the demo, I have yet to ever have the issue again. It's not that hard to avoid and Phantoms have remained cake for my HV.
