I never gave this game a chance due to reviews and the fact it said "espionage RPG" on the front.

I've learned whenever anything says its genre on the front cover, its usually bad. Especially music.

I still have it sitting on my desk in it's wrapper. I will get around to it but I have urgent deadline on work needs to be done right now. Also I want to finish DAO once more and run through DA2 in order to play the DLC content I never played prior when sold last copy of DA2 I owned a year ago. With all the praise those DLC got I have a large interest in seeing how good they are and it takes priority over AP for now. I am a completionist so I would not start DA2 even if just wish to play the DLC, not without importing a fresh new DAO save even if has no effect on the DLC itself hence DAO>DA2>DLC and then I'll start on AP.

Wait, is that actually supposed to be serious? Or is that a throwback at Metal Gear Solid?

So how many hours AP takes to be finished?
I should check my schedule before playing it.

Wow.. I was just playing AP when I saw this thread.

I have to agree. This game is underrated. The choice and consequence were unmatched.

Truly one of the more underrated games of the last decade.

A flawed gem it may be, but an absolute gem nonetheless. Great atmosphere, great story and characters, solid gameplay, and probably the best implementation of a dialog wheel and voiced protagonist that I've seen.

Damned straight.

Mechnically, it's fairly simple and somewhat easily borked to make the actual fight a cakewalk...but for sheer entertainment value? Best damned boss fight of all time.

People gotta stop putting so much stock in reviews.  ESPECIALLY ones from mainstream sites.

You're right. Im gonna check out an LP. Playing The Witcher 2 and Kingdoms of Amalur at the moment. The Witcher 2 is one I'm focusing on at the moment. Sofar its a 9/10 for me.

Lots on my plate, as I have a thorough run of Reckoning I want to do before deep runs of Fallout: New Vegas and Dark Souls.

Finally finished Fallout 3...loved it. Too easy though...finished with 123 stimpacks in my inventory

The woman are anything but shallow or
helpess in AP. Try pissing Mina off to the point where she absolutely
despises you during the course of game, even sees you as a "lesser evil"
and see that she is nothing like most of the meek Shepard fangirl
romance cast(well, maybe apart from Ash who is not afraid to call you
out on your BS, perhaps that's the reason people dislike her).

People seem to be pissed off that these characters don't share their entire family history at the push of a button.

Alpha Protocol is awesome: great story, interesting characters, choices with real consequences and an incredibly clunky gameplay (stealth + pistols is the way to go).

And it has minigames where it's required some attention!

SIE is a great character in the game, lot of great and humourous dialogue to be found when working with her.  Had to stifle a laugh my first mission with her as a handler when she just started humming Ride of the Valkyries when the bullets started to fly and Thortons explanation of how they attempted to warn the guards of a "Live fire weapons exercise" in the final Moscow assault was terrific.

My simple overview of Alpha Protocol is this: Great story and characters, absolutely crappy gameplay.

Overall, an average game that could have been great.

I agree, this game is simply underrated as heck.

But is it really SEGA who owns the rights? I heard some conflicting stories on either forums etc.

Meh. SIE is a sexy hot milf, that's about how far her character goes. Very entertaining and funny, but I wouldn't call her a great character. And you never need to alternate responses, just be aggressive all the time and she'll love it. In contrast, Mina and Scarlet, especially the latter, need you to alternate between professional and suave.

Replaying now and in some of the safe houses there are Sega Consoles (They look like Saturn/Dreamcast Hybrids)  Still love the Buddy cop photoshop picture that Darcy made.

SIE is probably my wife's favorite 'companion' character of all time. Just adored her. I wasn't even sure she'd like AP when I convinced her to try it, but she played it twice just for more time with SIE.

Meanwhile one of my favorites is also in AP. Steven Heck. Just loved him.Image IPB

Alpha Protocol is criminally underrated. Not without flaws, but a really good story, excellent characters, and meaningful choices to make. Would recommend it without hesitation, and it's a real shame there won't be a sequel.

One of my favorite things to do is get through the whole game without killing anyone. (at least, not during the actual game. Some people die due to cutscenes or choices.)

Everbody loves people who give them covering fire with a minigun from a driving subway train!

Or alternatively, people who actually get turned on when you shoot at them! :)

But yeah, the cast of Alpha Protocol is really wonderful. From the more complex and involved characters like Mina, Leland (one of the best 'villains' I've seen in a game) and Marburg to the over-the-top, supporting cast like Brayko, SIE and Heck.

Oh, Seven Heck is great. Clinically insane, of course, but it's especially great to have a Thornton that's otherwise professional or suave play along with said insanity to keep him as an asset.

And SIE is basically a distillation of Bond girl tropes. I definitely wouldn't call either -great- characters, but fun and entertaining ones, definitely.
