Someone get's it...

One way or another, it’s interesting – and I think healthy
to see this sort of consumer involvement in a product. It may be bitter
gruel for the folks at BioWare and EA, but there’s a sweetness to it if
you look closely enough.
Few companies command such fan loyalty or passion, after all.
Think about it – this whole controversy is unique. Did Bank of
America customers react to debit card fees by mentioning over and over
again how badly they wanted to remain Bank of America customers? Did
they ever describe themselves as fans of the bank?
Of course not.

One can only assume that EA/Bioware is taking its customers for granted. The tone from the PR announcements and random comments I've seen from moderators all indicate that they are confident that everyone will eventually give up and resume buying future product from them.

I guess we'll see if they are correct or not. For my part, I know that I never bought DA2 because of what I saw happening with DA:Awakening. I also know that I've soured on Bioware RPG's at this point as there clearly seems to be a trend for increasingly rushed development with the expected impact on quality and depth of the games. The whole "we won't respond to our customers because we are 'artists' and are too proud of ourselves" response has definitely turned me off to EA/Bioware.

It's a shame really. I really enjoyed DA:O and ME2. I was so looking forward to seeing where those games went. I really wanted some sort of continuation of DA:O to continue building on the relationships from that game, but instead it was completely abandoned with DA:Awakening and DA2 having no real connection to DA:O. So I started looking forward to ME3 since it was explicitly supposed to be a continuation of ME1/ME2. Then I find that most of the squad mates from ME2 are nothing but cameos and the decisions from ME1/ME2 were irrelevant to ME3. Bioware, once again, managed to find a way to simply abandon the previous games without ever giving the players what they wanted.

What BioWare has is something that any bank would kill for: a passionate following – maybe a deeply jaded passionate following, but groupies nonetheless. Game developers are like rock and roll bands in this regard – they can inspire a whole different kind of customer loyalty – and backlash – than any other type of company. It’s a perpetual energy source if you know how to use it. Just look at the success of CD Projekt Red and how they built that success (a topic I’m hoping to cover in depth soon) for an example of how to tap into this fan momentum.

Right now, the potential for cultivating a long-term fan-base out of the wreckage is very real and very poignant.

all I can say to this is woop, there it is.

Freelance bloggers only publish these cookie-cutter articles because they knows your "movement" will give them for instant clicks... It's like giving a slab of red meat to Neanderthals....

Cheap carbs for Forbes.

Show a little restraint and have a bit more pride for what you represent....

I hope we can just post in a certain topic here instead of tweeting. I'm not going to sign up for Twitter. Ever.
