Shrieks were the only foes in DAO that actually creeped me out (in a good way).
Me wants shrieks back.

They already did bring them back, in Legacy.
There were no Shrieks in Legacy. Screenshots, perhaps. But none in the actual DLC.
And it's just as well, really. They redesigned them to a point where I personally don't like them.

DAO's weren't perfect -- they needed some relatively minor tweaking -- but they were better then this thing IMO.

Welp, I kinda liked Origins darkspawn better. While on a whole I preferred art style of Two. Go figure
That makes two of us.
The DA:O darkspawn seemed a lot more intelligent and a lot more like... corrupted people, really. Or sin and evil in its physical form.
The DAII hurlocks would have made much better possessed skeletons IMO.

There are zombies in The Walking Dead that look just like DA2 Hurlocks. Wish I could remember which episode to make a screenie (bad memory, I tell you), but it was striking.brushyourteeth wrote...

I'd like to see that, even though I absolutely hate zombies. Did they work better in the context of the show than in DAII?

Sure we can!

I never want to see Shrieks, or Shades in a game again! The Shades were WAY overdone.
Shades were overdone, but we probably had less than 30 shrieks in all of DA:O and NONE in DAII. Backorder on shrieks for DAIII, please.

I can see it now, kiting a pride demon for two hours while 30 shrieks and 30 shades chase me.

They also fulfill the role of the fast attacking high damage unit for the darkspawn. That's something they need to bring back for DA:3, fighting a multitude of different types of opponent more commonly, rather than a mage + waves of basic melee fighters and archers. Have us fighting the heavy assault infrantry (Hurlocks), the cannon fodder (genlocks), the fast and stealthy flanking attacks (Shrieks), the big slow beasts (Ogres) and mages + archers all simultaneously. It made battles for more interesting when you had to think about things like that, rather than battles being simple wars of attrition against wave after wave of basic infantry.

I hate zombies too. I find most zombie movies boring (yes, even Night of the Living Dead, and I know I must burn for that or something). Walking Dead zombies work surprisingly fine, though. Mainly because they aren't considered (by the chars) as mindless monsters but as former human beings. I'm still completely gobsmacked by having gone through two seasons of zombie feast and having actually and completely enjoyed it.brushyourteeth wrote...

I may be mistaken but I believe any emissaries we saw in DA2 may have been hurlocks...
I'd also like to see them referred to as "sharlocks" now and then.

Well I think the Darkspawn saw how ugly the female elves became in Dragon Age 2 and decided it was best to not capture them and turn them into Broodmothers.
Awesome.

Shrieks are worse than the damn Balverines and I hated those sodding things in Fable.
Don't like to epic slap fight much?
