If it makes you feel any better, I have my Paladin III, a Scorpion I, and that's it for N7 weapons.  It's a good thing I like the Paladin because the RNG Gods have evidently decided that's what I'm going to use, forever.

No one really mentions the Talon, but it is very effective. If you put a scope on it (or without) you can pull off headshots at range. I can kill as many enemies as with my Carnifax and it has a much higher DPS. Actually, it basically equals the Paladin in DPS 708.17 vs 702.75 (Carnifax is 460.17).  It has a circular crosshair as opposed to a crossed one, but it is surprisingly accurate despite its description.

With a Vanguard type character, you can easily Biotic Charge in an pull off a headshot without having to ADS. 

Problem is the gun is rare, and hard to get through cases.

Unfortunately, the answers you're gonna get here are going to be mostly subjective. The Carnifex seems to be the favorite of many, if not most. Perhaps a close second would be the Phalanx. Personally, I favor the Predator over all available pistols, and never set my lobby status to "Ready" without it.

Engineer is my class of choice, already promoted 3 times. Haven't got to level 20 with any other classes. I usually rely on powers, trying to stay under cover, so I think the Carnifex may be useful until I get high leveled Paladin and Talon. According to the descriptions I read on ME wikia, I think the Talon may be better for closed quarters combat (glacier) and the Paladin for more "open" environments (hydra).

Paladin, without a doubt. Stick the magazine capacity V on it, and you get 5 shots per clip. I use it with that and the armour piercing.

Paladin I is so much better than my carnifex IV, it's not even funny. But I can't use it frequently because it adds a noticable time to power cooldown, so until it is rank VII or so it is hard to play with.

I'd trade every single other weapon I've got, all characters apart from a handful, all mods apart from a handful, for a paladin X.

Also forget the scopes unless you're going for a pure headhsot build (like AA with stasis or something). Their pretty accurate already, I don't like using up a slot with the scope.

Carnifex - high-caliber barrel & piercing mod
Paladin - magazine capacity & piercing mod

Scorpion is cool too, but level one is a bit too heavy for a caster class.

Unless you have a carnifex or paladin... go predator X.

1 - It is easy to get to X, buy recruit packs
2 - It has no refire delay or kickback, so you just keep pulling the trigger
3 - it is light as hell, so you only take a couple % cooldown reduction hit, if any.
4 - It can hold up well even in silver matches
5 - From behind cover it is very accurate at range
6 - It can be fired from the hip fairly accurately

Downside - Even with an ammo mod V, you burn through ammo like no tomorrow. If I use it, I frequently blow through my ammo, but I fire like an AR with it.

My Paladin 3 > my carnifex X atm unless I absolutely need a 200% recharge.

Depends on the class you are using to be honest.

Its between the Carnifex and the Paladin. I have the Paladin VI (somehow) and only recently have I begun to prefer it.

I'll vouch for using the Carnifex a LOT... until I got the Talon, which is now my gunbaby.

Depends on how quick you can tap the trigger. Assuming you can hit the maximum possible ROF with each weapon, Predator > Phalanx > Carnifex, but the differences are small and the Carnifex has a high amount of damage per shot. While technically you kill quicker with the Predator, the Carnifex is able to maintain it's maximum DPS much more easily. Of course, all of these are beaten in terms of burst DPS by the Paladin, Talon, Arc Pistol, and Scorpion. My opinion is that the Phalanx is one of the most well-rounded pistols and probably the best choice overall, since it's got a higher damage, lower weight, and more spare ammo than the Carnifex. Of course, the Carnifex is also extremely good and the preferred weapon of most.

N7 Eagle is worthless, btw. If you get that, I'm sorry. Hurricane and Valiant are the two best N7 weapons.

I thoroughly enjoy my Phalanx IX over my Carnifex III.  I don't even care about the cooldown drop-off.  I just really like the Phalanx and I can burn through enemies even on gold with it as I primarily run debuff engi or turian sent.

Phalanx for if your not a great shot and need rounds and decent power

Carnifex if your a decent shot and can blow peoples heads off or have great combo power plays to finish off with.

And if you can stand that it only has 3 rounds with out an Mag Mod, the Paladin is great for pure pistol stopping power.

Depends on my class as I haven't unlocked the Paladin or Carnifex yet on most of my characters the Phalanx.

However on my Drell's I use the Talon espeically on the Adept as with their abilities it's got a recharge of 180% and I can live with that for the damage it does (Especially with a scope)

I would say Paladin is the best, cool down sucks though. With a scope and barrel its better then most snipers. Magazine upgrade is a waste imo. You get like an extra shot per clip but one shot overall more? I'd rather pop heads more.
Carnifex is mingled in there with phalanx and talon for next best but I don't have the talon.

dont have a talon, have a paladin I and carniflex X now, but carniflex is a good reliable sidearm to have that can be -200% recharge in a few levels.
