Klixen in ME3 if Shepard killed the rachni queen in ME1

Posted Image

In ME1, renegade Shepard killed the rachni queen. When the reapers reached the galaxy, there were no rachni queens to capture and no husk artillery units in the reaper forces.

The reapers, realising they need an alternative, are forced to turn to the slightly less effective, but still fearsome klixen. Studying this alien race led to the reapers constructing a sophisticated cloning device to churn out an army of huskified klixen. Capable of shooting streams of fire as well as firebombs, the klixen are an alternate enemy for the renegade to fight throughout ME3, effectively replacing the rachni ravagers which would be present in the paragon campaign.

When Commander Shepard investigated the missing krogan scouts at Utukku, it turned out that the rachni were a red herring, and the threat the krogan came across was actually the klixen, huskified and genetically rewritten by the reapers. The mission plays out much the same as it would in the paragon campaign but with klixen husks instead of rachni.

At the end of the mission, Shepard reaches the klixen cloning device that the reapers have hidden on Utukku and has a choice:

Paragon: Shepard sees the cloning device as an abomination and leaves it to be destroyed. Instead, s/he gives Arlakh company the opportunity to fall back and gains them as a war asset.

Renegade: Shepard sees the potential in the klixen cloning device and orders Arlakh company to buy him/her time as s/he salvages technology from it. Arlakh company is effectively wiped out but the Alliance study the technology Shepard salvages and find a way to clone non-huskified klixen to use as effective (but unreliable due to their apparent lack of sentience) shock troops against the husks.

For more info on klixen, see the wiki article: masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Klixen

Excellent Idea. I would've loved to see this implemented.

However, Bioware decided to cut everything short and released an unfinished game. So...

To be honest, I think the Ravagers were originally created to be modified klixens, but were later shoehorned as 'rachni'. The head shape and the exploding 'sac' is more similar to normal klixen than rachni.

Considering what the Reapers did to Harvesters, there should have been klixen in the game anyway.

Great idea, have a job at BioWare as a reward. I hear there is a Lead Writer spot going

But then our choices would actually matter.

I feel that had BioWare been given more production time, the game would have been incredible as they would have had time to implement things like this.

Still, something like this wouldn't have been too taxing to implement as they could have kept the mission almost identical. The main challenge would have been added an entirely new enemy.

I was thinking something similar to this in fact. I never thought of the Klixen being a possible replacement to the Rachni though. I approve, makes you wonder that if a fan can think up this who is actually coming up with the ideas that make it into the game? Seriously?

It may be more to do with the time constraints that the writers had to make certain story decisions pointless. With more time, we could have had better alternatives which would have given the game much better replay value.

Hack developers with a clear lack of ambition and creativity. We're talking about the same people who use "lol indoctrination" to deprive the player of choice whether it be Cerberus, The Rachni, Geth or Udina.

Good idea btw King.

Aren't the harvesters the klixen "queens" (the big ones that fly around)?

I think there were originally supposed to be two separate rachni missions, but they had to condense everything into one.

Well, that's the Rachni problem solved I guess. Sadly, BioWare didn't think of this.

There is no lore info about them in any Mass Effect game, we can only make assumptions. I think it's more likely that they're a different species which the harvesters pick up and drop on their enemies.

I had mentioned something like this before, though I hadn't thought of klixen - I was thinking that the replacement might have been huskified yahgs. Klixen would have been better than having the rachni forcefully hammered into the storyline despite their last queen having been destroyed, though I would still prefer to see yahg husks. Yagh husks would have required a whole new enemy type animations though, while I suspect that with klixen, not much more than reskinning existing models would have beeen needed.

Anyway, just about any solution would have been better than the ham-fisted railroading we got with the Rachni.

This would've been a wonderful idea, although it still doesn't help the Rachni mission in the slightest; it just actually makes our choices matter. Still, I like it.

I think a good replacement might have been a turian/krogan prison camp and factory for the reaper that was making Marauders and Brutes. Grunt would have still been there.

My renegade personally let the bug queen live in me1 and 3 but I like this idea I really like it. Its an actual choice with differences.

The perfect alternative, makes them seem less "cheap reskin mob" in ME2 too, cause they'd have a purpouse in ME3.
This may have been the original plan though, who knows at this point...

I was wondering why they never used the Yahg as a Reaper turned enemy, I thought they would have better suited the role of Brutes rather than the Krogan/Turian mashup they went with.

I though brutes were Yahg tbh.

Aren't harvesters from ME2 related to klixen? I recall the harvesters tended to hang near klixen during certain fights, so I figured they were klixen queens or something. They show up reaperized in 3, after all.

If that's the case, reaperized klixen wouldn't have been much of a stretch. Though preferably they would not be clones of ravagers in terms of combat.

I was generally disappointed by the lack of yahg in ME3. According to Hackett, the reapers are ignoring Parnack (the yahg homeworld) which is why we don't see any yahg husks.

It's never clearly stated what the relationship between harvesters and klixen is. Perhaps the klixen are harvester young or perhaps they are different species and harvesters are simply using klixen as a defence mechanism.

As for their role in combat, I would have liked to have seen klixen providing a similar role to ravagers (artillery) but in a different way. We know that unmodified klixen use fire attacks, so klixen husks could have been made to shoot balls of fire (like incinerate) and to use their flamethrowers in close combat. They could self destruct in a large firebomb at death (like they did in ME2).

I think Reapers can not use them because Yahg are not sufficiently advanced race (same reason why reapers do not destroy them)
