First off, thanks so much for this workaround! I'm glad it worked for a lot of people.

Image IPB

Sadly it did not turn out too well for me. It got her skin spot on but her eyes are way off and her mouth has minor issues.

Image IPB

I tried different lod_mapping.xml files and further modifications with Gibbed, which kind of made it worse.

Maybe I should stick with the ME3 import and just charge my way through the whole game? :(

The eyes and mouth are areas that need further work in Lazarus. They don't give perfect results for me either. The unmapped lips worked best for me.

yeah, mine has an issue with eye clipping with my canon Penny:
this picture is ok, but obviously you can see where the eyes would clip in other scenes.

3 of the imports had such a bad eye clipping problem that I reverted them back to the ME3 import, because kinda right is far better, then on point, but creepy eyes clipping through closed lids.

The eye clipping is fortunately one of the easier ones to fix: you can go into Gibbed, and either move the lids outward, or the eyeball inward. I think it's the X-axis in both cases? Just move it by 0.1 and try it, add more as needed.

I realized I hadn't mentioned here contrary to what I thought…there's also a social group created for the face import and Lazarus stuff: http://social.bioware.com/group/7281/.

I'll make sure that any necessary information makes it to these normal threads, so it's in no way necessary to join to keep up with the issue, but you're certainly welcome to.

I think my issue is that I have never used gibbed (I've downloaded it and looked at the numbers..it scared me and I closed it ) so I am a little scared I'll just mess up everything completely. I don't even have a clue what you wrote means. :)

I know you're being helpful and i really appreciate it. This whole program is amazing. but, the info is the same with the hair issues I have with penny's import. I don't know what the info given means or anyway of actually fixing it.

I also don't want to be the idiot that has to ask a billion questions and annoy everyone with my lack for understanding what you guys probably see as simple edits. :)

I've tried to look for detailed information on how to use gibbed for face edits...but once again I was just confused. and I can't seem to find anything that is as detailed as I apparently need it to be.

Ha, well, the good news is that you can't really break anything for good. Just make sure to always create a new save (if you opened save number 30, for example, save the new one as 31 or whatever is the next free number in line.)

No worries about questions, it's not like we're swamped…so long as you can wait a while for answers, someone'll get to it.

I'll take a look at the Gibbed interface later, and will post the exact fields you need to change. The original thread also has instructions somewhere but I'm having a hard time coming up with the right search terms.

Using latest Lazarus and R18 I believe. Any tips to fix this? I know people are working hard (please set up paypal for some money loves!) so if a fix is in the works, this is just for bookeeping then. I sort of like that my FemShep has cupid lips but in some scenes it's pretty bad.

And major eyelash clipping.

@mireisen: I have the same issue. No fix yet, except to use a map without the lips-mapped.

@Verly and anyone else:

Here're the steps to change the eye depth in Gibbed ME3 to get rid of the blinking problem (alternatively you could change the lids). These are probably a little too detailed, but just in case! There's an image at the bottom too, click on it to see full size.
  • Run Gibbed.MassEffect3.SaveEdit.exe.
  • Click Open, and select the character and save file you want to work with.
  • Click on the Raw tab.
  • Click on the arrow next to Player under the Squad section.
  • Scroll down to Appearance, and click the arrow to expand that section.
  • Scroll down to Head Morph, and click the arrow to expand that section.
  • Find where it says Offset Bones, and click on the word.
  • On the far right of the Offset Bones line, next to the scrollbar, there's a button with just … in it. Click that, it opens a new window.
  • In the new window (titled OffsetBone Collection Editor), scroll down in the left box until you find Eye_Right and Eye_Left, and click on the one you want to change (first). You can change both, or just one (usually it's just the left eye).
  • With, let's say, Eye_Left selected, the box to the right will have an arrow next to Offset. Click on the arrow to expand it.
  • To move the eye backward, subtract 0.1 from the number in the X field. E.g. if I have 4.44…, I'll change it to 4.34… and so on.
  • If you want to change the other eye too, just click on it on the left, and do the same as above.
  • Once you've changed one or both, click OK to close the window.
  • In the top navigation, click Save, and select to create a new save file.
  • Start up ME3, and load the new save.
  • Wait until the blink happens. If it's fixed, awesome! If it's not fixed, close ME3, go back to Gibbed, and subtract another 0.1, and repeat until fixed.

Image IPB

Click the image for full size.

Note that this doesn't change the character itself, just that particular save – and any saves you make from it. So as an example, let's say you have two saves, one with you on Mars, and another on the Citadel. You open the one where you're on Mars in Gibbed, make the change, and then save into a new savegame.

Now you have three saves: Mars (with fix), Mars (original with no fix), Citadel (with no fix). You can start ME3 and load the new Mars save with the fix, and start playing. When you make a save, that save file will also have the fix in it, and so on. Each save ‘inherits’ the character from the save that you loaded.

If instead of continuing with your new fixed Mars save you wanted to continue with the Citadel one, you'll need to go (back) to Gibbed, and open the Citadel save, edit it, and then make a new Citadel save with the fix. Then you can load that and start playing there.

@Bioware:

Here is another example of the importer bug. Shown is what the ME3 import did to my Shepard. The Lazarus restored version not only fixes the import, but also is a much better showoff for what the ME3 engine is capable of.

I emphasize that the equivalent is not possible in the CC.  I can resize the lips, but that's it.  The eyeshape/eyelids fundamentally change the look that makes it impossible to recreate my Shepard.

Image IPB

This shows the best I am able to do in the ME3 CC without the help of Lazarus/Gibbed.  The eye height is wrong in the CC, and I can't change it.  It is already at it's max height.  The upper eyelids/eyelashes are pulled way up, which gives her a very odd look.  Lips size is hard to get right when it starts off so far off base.
Image IPB

This is how really awesome the game should look with the right face import.
Image IPB

Bioware, the patch imports a face, but it is not the same face I had in ME1/2.  I had to use 3rd party workarounds in order to get her back.  It is different not because of lighting and the engine, it is different because there are changes to the head features.  Lazarus was made because the patch did not fix this.

@Bioware employees: Have you given Lazarus a try?  What do you think it would take to make it better?

ok, I did use your instructions with some extra help with Vhalkyri's gibbed notes blog because as I found out with Penny her issue was not clipping due to eye depth.. Penny's eyes  actually needed to be lowered slightly. but your tips on the steps on how to edit anything was very helpful:
here was the problem. as you can see eyes were a bit too close to the eye lid. I had to not only lower the eye itself I also had to go into the upper eyelid and raise it a bit as well
Image IPB

I also realized the lighting was bad there so here is how she looked with her eyes correct:
Image IPB

but I noticed her she had no eye makeup...so I I thought, why not fool around with this editor. so here was my result. I think she is looking pretty good. (I also edited her lips a tad too because they didn't look quite right. oh,and tried to darken her eye brows lol)

Latest Lazarus build is here (currently r23):
http://code.google.c...arusProject.exe

Download this over the previous 0-1-1 zip release:
http://me3-lazarus.g...zarus-0-1-1.zip

r23 has a minor change allowing you to choose which map to use or work with.  It will prompt you to save any changes you've made to your existing map, and will always default to using the lod_mapping.xml file on startup.

The link to the r23 client just takes me to a webpage. When I right click on it and save as, what I see is LazerousProject.exe.html. I dug around a bit and believe I found the executable in the File Info box under the View Raw File link. me3-lazarus.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/LazarusProject/bin/Release/LazarusProject.exe.

Also, the maps link for Astralify and the lod_mapping-excludemouth-1-2.xml seem to be linked to the same file path: http://dl.dropbox.co...demouth-1-2.xml

@DJRackham Thanks for note, fixing…

Edit1: Here's the exe path: https://me3-lazarus....arusProject.exe

Edit2: And here's the correct link to Astralify's map: http://www.mediafire...5ok3g16roqmeeze (.rar file).

Both are now correct in the OP.

Hey guys!
Since I didn't post in the previous thread,
here is my experience:

Jane (ME 2gameplay/ME 2 / ME 3 import/ ME 3 customized/ ME 3 Lazarus)

(ME 2)
Image IPB
Image IPB
(ME 3 default import)
Image IPB
(ME 3 customized. Only kept her because she reminds me of Cate Blanchett:lol:)
Image IPB
(Lazarus (edit: need to change it for a non squad one))
Image IPB

And John(just 2:lol:)

Image IPB
Image IPB

As You can see, none of them really match. Male Shep is okay,
and could be customized to an acceptable level in game.
Femshep wasn't as lucky though. I'll try to play with Lazarus today again and maybe the results will be better.
