Bioware, the patch imports a face, but it is not the same face I had in ME1/2. I had to use 3rd party workarounds in order to get her back. It is different not because of lighting and the engine, it is different because there are changes to the head features. Lazarus was made because the patch did not fix this.
@Bioware employees: Have you given Lazarus a try? What do you think it would take to make it better?
+1.
I made this for comparison for myself trying to figure out what hairstyle would look most continuous with the previous style - since it changed fairly drastically in ME3. For the heck of it, I thought I'd pull up the original ME3 face that is the result of importing the same code, without mods. Note, I am using texmods, but the structure is the main thing here. Edit - if anything the texmods make the structural changes more glaring because I'm using the same quality face texture between games. WOW. Just wow. An official fix would be nice, but I wouldn't hold my breath. All you modders have my gratitude for doing what they failed to deliver.

ME3 lazarus:

One thing I wasn't too keen on was the skin tone. How exactly would I darken it a notch? Would gibbed's save editor be able to do that? I've never used the program before so I'm not sure what it's capable of.

Like many of you, I have had trouble importing my M1/M2 Shepard into the third game. I am a perfectionist and I want to play MY Shepard, not 'the best approximate copy' as Bioware would like us to do. I just can't play the game with the foreknowledgle that I am not really playing my beloved character. On a positive note, I am lucky that my Patch 1.02 gave me a close approximation. My biggest woes are with the eye and hair colour. Please see images below:
(1) ME2 Shepard from CC (low lighting)
(2) ME2 Shepard with high lighting - notice the big difference in look. Lighting makes a huge difference in colours.
(3) ME3 1.02 Import - notice the black hair and the very light brown eyes.
(4) ME3 edited with gimped - best look I could obtain from gimp.

Of course, I want to fix the eye/hair colour and get them exactly as ME2. The obvious solution would be to copy the colour RGB values from ME2 gimped to an ME3 save game. This works OK for the hair, I guess, but DOES NOT work for the eyes.
My ME2 Gimped iris colour code is
R = 0.511
G = 0136
B = 0.053
Which gives the following iris colour:

This iris colour is not the one I had in ME2...any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

It should be vice versa, the Eye color should be accurate and the Hair color should be off.
Are you sure that you added the values correctly to Gibbed ME3? Tried your values whit RGB tool and in Gibbed and in both cases they gave back a much darker brown as in your last picture. Assumingly, after your ME2 Pictures, the correct color.
Little tip. Rapidshare is not the best solution for Picture uploads, imageshack or identical services are better suitable.

Mine didn't turn out too bad but still needs some further tweaking I'd say:
ME2:
ME3 import:
ME3 lazarus:

Yes, pretty easy.
- Open Gibbed.
- Load your save game.
- If you are not already on the "Player" Tab, click on it.
- Click on "Appearance"
- Double-click "Skin Tone"
- Focus on the "V" value, set it slightly to minus. (Example: if the "V" value is 53 set it to 50)
- Save in "new save"

So the ME3 import doesn't look bad if it was all there; her profile is fine.

So she's got Steven Tyler lips:

I LOVE how it looks in the front but on the side...I'm not sure why she's got the ducklips going on. To be honest I feel that the ME3 lips are closer to the ME1 ones than ME2 ones were.
I did try to push the lips back in the ME3 CC but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Issue with mouth, been using Lazarus with latest map that excludes the mouth (1-2). I don't remembewhat lips she has but it has a bit of a curl and I find it really cool and distinctive to her look.

Personally I don't see a big duck lips problem on your Shepard, but he, it's your Shepard.
If you don't like it at all, try to tweak the Mouthbase with Gibbed.

How do you tweak mouthbase on Gibbed? Is it under morph features? Her teeth are pushed back a smidge but how do I do the mouth?
As always, back up your save games first.
Open Gibbed, load your save game, Click "Raw", expand "Player", expand "Appearance", expand "Head Morph", click on Offset Bones, click on the little array on the right.
A new window opens, click on "mouthBase", click on the arrow next to "Offset"
Set the X-value slightly to minus. I would recommend -0,3 in the first attempt. The value is probably already in minus, so if it is (for example) -1,3****** set it to -1,6******
Once you're done, click "OK", and save in a new slot.
Edit: typo

For this thread, the Lazarus program, and for me being able to see MY Shepard again.
Eyeballing it, I would have said the vanilla import was close enough, but after using
Lazarus ...
So many little details making such a big difference.

So any comment from the tech support people on whether anything official is being done? It's really a hassle that we the consumers have to hack the game every time we go through a playthrough of the game.
Unfortunately, that won't happen now that they've forced us into the tech forums.
It's the same with the Single Player EMS issue.... they've washed their hands of us and won't even acknowledge the issue anymore. Oh well, at least you folks got an attempt at a patch!
If you don't believe me, here's a tweet from community coordinator Chris Priestly, from April 24th...
@BioEvilChris wrote....

Here is the link to the actual twitter post
Sure, the description of the Tech Support forums have said as much for years now.... however, it's been different in practice. In the past, it wasn't unusual for the devs to acknowledge bugs here, and even post to help people out.
But according to that twitter post, the tech forums are just for fans helping fans. No official Bioware support will occur.
This isn't speculation... this is a direct quote from the lead community coordinator.
So basically.... it's not their problem anymore. We are told to post here because the only help we will get is from fellow fans, to hack the game and fix the problem for them. Don't expect any official support, because this isn't the place for it apparently.

Does he ever say where official support is, if not here? By "links are provided" does he mean help.ea.com? Because this is what they said in response to my ticket on this issue:
"I have gone through your issue and wish to share that this should be reported to the game forum site. As we only deal with the technical issues and billing issues. Please go ahead and do the needful."
So...on the forum they say official support is from EA Help, and EA Help tells us to go to the forum.
Also, EA Help says that this isn't a technical issue. Any idea what their definition of "technical issue" is? Vertices being assigned to incorrect coordinates seems pretty technical to me.

However with no acknowledgment of this issue, and a refusal to support the issue from EA, I think both bioware and EA have indeed washed their hands of this.

I just got the time off to work on fixing my import shep. You don't have sure fixes yet for male versions of the Lazarus method? Here is my import. Do you think there is anything I could do to gt it closer to my original shepard? The comparisons don't even come close without the scars.
