Don't give him any of those weapons. Use the particle rifle. He's freakishly accurate with it, and the beam intensifies much faster than with Shepard. The battlefield turns into a giant pile of glowing green goo.

I give him "single shot" sniper rifles. Mantis then Widow variant or Javelin. I don't have the Valiant.

Particle Rifle shouldn't even be available to anyone other than Javik, but you can put it on all your squadmates if you want.

Upgraded Black Widow, spec him to maximize sniper rifle damage. Things will explode around you.

I've never managed to make him actually use snipers effectively. So I basically give him a Particle Rifle, Revenant, or Falcon and call it good. Bonus points if you can give him squad cryo for the Falcon or squad explosive incendiary for the other two.

I give him the upgraded Black Widow and the M-96 Mattock. Seems to work well even on the hardcore difficulty setting. I too spec'ed him to maximize sniper rifle damage. I normally leave him with that weapon selected more often than not.

The only one who can mitigate the Revenant's inherent accuracy problems is Ashley. When the Marksman power is applied she's freakishly good with it. Garrus and the others are OK, but they just don't hit often at medium + ranges. This is why I give him the Mattock. It's accurate as hell.

The Valiant is a good weapon, but there is no reason for squad mates to use it over the Black Widow unless you just don't have it. The Black Widow has the same capacity as the Valiant and does a lot more damage. In addition weight has no impact on squad members. I don't understand the Phaeston. If you watch carefully, the squad members do not fire as often as a player would. Weak weapons which need to sustain high rates of fire and hit successfully with that fire just don't make any sense for them. Don't forget that your squad mates do considerably less damage than Shepard does. The only exception to this rule is Ashley. Though she still does less damage, she's closer to Shepard than anyone else.

In my 4 playthroughs Garrus has been most effective with the Mattock and the Black Widow.

I didn't give him the Black Widow cause I figured he'd be too slow with it and would shoot stuff faster with the Valiant instead.

I don't know if it works that way but I just assume it does.

As for the Phaeston, I didn't really care what AR I gave him, but someone recommended phaeston for teammates to me once before so I just went with it, I was told it had a really high rate of fire and on teammates they would give amazing covering fire.

He certainly has never seemed much cop for me with BW, so I usually just give him his trusty Mantis. I'd have thought Valiant is wasted on him as it does less damage than the Mantis or BW, and he doesn't seem to fire any quicker despite the Valiant having a better firing rate. Same as in ME2, I don't recall Garrus or Zaeed shooting any more quickly with Viper that Mantis.

ROFL Incisor or Raptor... Are you asking which one of those is the worst sniper in the game? They are both so lame I can't even decide.

Here's a question, for Garrus (or Ashley for that matter), is there any difference in speed of follow up shots using BW compared to say Widow or Javelin? I've been inclined to think Garrus treats all sniper rifles as bolt action anyway, so the extra shots on BW or Valiant etc are wasted. Surely better to give him Widow if any sniper rifle so he can put the maximum damage downrange at his targets?

I like giving Garrus the Mattock. It's a throwback to ME2. And when I've saved up enough credits, the Black Widow.

As far as sniper rifle I give him the valiant and hes a beast with that weapon only issue is that he fires all sniper weapons like as if they are all single shot rifles regardless of clip size with that in mind the mantis, widow, javelin, any single shot sniper rifle with high damage would be best. For AR the particle rifle is the best AR for any squadmate hands down including Garrus that is a fact they take everything down real quick which I hate because they steal to many kills so keep that in mind also when you give them that weapon. A runner up for the AR would be the chakram launcher if you have it all squadmates cause major damage with that weapon and I take down brutes and other tougher enemies pretty fast with that weapon in my hands and squadmates also. I find that single shot damage matters more for squadmates except if you choose the particle rifle. As for guns with rapid fire it works more as crowd control for the squadmates they don't cause as much damage with those weapons and are less accurate except for Ashley since she has marksmen that works with any rapid fire weapon best with revenant as everybody already knows. By the way does anyone know if Garrus does well with the Valykrie I don't since I've never given my squadmates any 3 burst shot weapons wonder if its effective?

I did not notice any difference in rate of fire between Mantis, BW, Widow or Javelin on Garrus.  Valiant seems like he only takes one shot as well.

I can't remember what he would do with the Viper, it as been too long since I gave him that weapon.

NPC base weapon damage is nerfed with a *0.3 multiplier ... (with auto weapons vs armored targets 50DR on insanity they don't do much damage until...)

When ordered to attack a target they will gain a 200% weapon damage bonus vs that target for the next 10 seconds ...

Garrus has two weapon class skills that apply directly to weapon base damage for assault & sniper rifles ... Combined with the 100% weapon damage bonus from passives & the *1.25 global damage bonus from his proximity mine debuff this means (a weapon specced Garrus) ordered//microed to attack specific targets CAN OUTDAMAGE A NON-WEAPON BASED class SHEPPARD ...

squadmate weapon damage formula

He can 1 hit kill with Widow body shots mooks even on the late game ... But he fires the Sniper rifles way too slooowly ... So I recommend speecing him for assault rifles and give him the Revenant ...Remember to equip him his +25% weapon damage bonus armor ...

I've seen him and Liara melt double debuffed (Proximity mine & warp) banshees ...
