I just finished my first play through as a mage (good times) and started one up as a rogue. So, I ask you all who play rogues -- is the stealth skill worth investing in? Is it one of those things you should max out?
What are your thoughts on stealth?
Thanks!

It's really only worth it if you max it out.

oh yea. at lv3 I believe you can restealth while in combat. its very important for you to do this if you draw aggro from multi mobs. Also it helps when you solo in the fade to get away from certain blood mages.

Yes, and yes.
It has a lot of utility during and outside of combat. You can use it in conjunction with your other Rogue skills, like trapping, grenades, or stealing.

Ok thanks so much for the quick replies! I've put one point in it so far but thought I better ask before I get to far into the story.
Thanks again!

If you really invest in the style of play that stealth can offer, it can be very fun. Remember that tough combat with the mage all tucked in back launching fireballs at you? Oopps, I just started the combat right behind him.

Also useful for disarming traps in a room before your party goes in. The free crits aren't too shabby if you're an archer either.

I gave Lelianan 3 levels of stealth and found it just fine for all purposes except trying to stealth in front of some major major bosses. You can get most of the gains without going to the top of the chain.
Basically 1 level and you can stealth but can't do anything without unstealthing. Two elvel and you can disarm traps and things like that. Three levels and you can tealth in most but not quite all combat situations. Haven't tried 4.
In any case, one or two levels create an effective scout but can only be used at the beginning of combat. The nexyt two levels give you effective stealthing in combat.

Level one is fairly useless, but you at least need to get "Stelthy Iem" so you can set traps in stealth mode.
Maxing it out allows you to shed aggro. Which is a very good idea, but to say stealth is useless if you don't max it out is not true, imo. Your cunning score affects stealth, as well as the skill ranks themselves. I never took it beyond second rank on my first rogue, and while I couldn't use it in combat, I only was ever noticed ONCE, and that was by a boss.

Well, I read the manual. And the wiki. And the in-game description of the attribute. All three of them state that cunning affects the rogue talents. Therefore, I am not spreading misinformation. I am stating the information as presented in the documentation.
Are you one of those people that delve into the toolset? Is there in fact a lack of bonus from cunning to stealth, like there is a bonus to lockpicking?

My second and current play through is a dwarf DW rogue, and stealth for me is awesome.
I tell my party to hold, setup tank just around a corner of a choke point, have mages in the rear, i stealth ahead setting up traps along the way,
back stab a single target to death before they realize what just happened, then run my ass back to my party, and the traps take care of atleast 1 or 2 the rest gets slaughtered from my mages,
very fun

Read the line about Matthew Young CT's last comment then ask yourself if his last line is *really* something you need to take seriously?
=D Yes cunning affects Stealth. But each level of Stealth is worth ~25? points in cunning, so you still probably want at least 3 levels for combat stealth.

Cunning does not effect stealth.
This is a myth. Discobird has shown it to be false.
