those are all my favorite spells. why would I dl this patch?
Luckily, in single player games, you don't have to be ass raped with patches.
Those spells are so ridiculously overpowered, they could do with a round or ten with the nerf bat. I'm a mage player, but I HATE it when some spells are so poweful I can't not use them. It makes every battle exceedingly easy as enemies are very often CC'ed till dead, and exceedingly boring as I use the same small handfull of spells over and over again.
So if you have favourites it's like being a fan of an athlete who uses doping. And the fix is defenitely not about being "ass raped", it's about not automatically "ass raping" the game without even really trying hard.

Not fix the serious problems, but throw in nerfs for the most popular class?
Ok, I understand. See, they have had their initial sales on DAO. But on January 26 they release Mass Effect 2. So, we are supposed to be finished with DAO by then.
One way to get players off of DAO is to get large numbers of mages to rage quit.
Elementary, my dear Watson!
Ragequit? Really? Simply because of some changes to some crowd control spells? A grand conspiracy to drive players away toward Mass Effect 2? I find that hard to believe. It is not as though the spells have become junk. They still remain quite powerful. Anyone who leaves in a huff over this..well, it is THEIR loss.

So no dex-bug fix but rather a dagger-bug fix?
It kind of looks like to me that they took the "SAFE" rout on the dex bug by just fixing how the dagger works instead of fixing how dex is working overall. I suppose it was becuase of the fear of the NPC's Archers becomming unbalanced perhaps? This still leaves me with the question of: is dex working completely as intended?
The Archery changes George were talking about had nothing to do with dexterity. But because they lack flanking and just generally seemed to underperform, but not a bug.
As well as the cross bows?
They're not scaling from strength or dexterity at all.

So no fixes for Archery (Xbow problem, etc)?

Crossbows get no attribute bonus to damage at all, from any attribute. Making them utterly useless.
Yep, I'm disappointed with this patch. Seems to me, this patch didn't really adress the issue most players consider most flawed or even broken; game balance. Not only class vs. class, but talent/spells vs. talent/spells. Some spells like Disorient is almost utterly useless, while others like Blood Wounds is godlike. For me the patch is too little too late tbh.

Just a reminder - any files you might have in the packages\\\\core\\\\override directories from mods made on 1.02 or early WILL interfere with this patch and should be deleted.
Came here for this information.
Am curious, is the patch still compatible with the archery 'fix' that was released for 1.01? I didn't notice any changes to the attack rating of bows.
I've removed the files from the override at any rate.
As for the small discussion about balance in single player games - balance in all game systems is important. Just because you aren't competing against another human being does not mean that the system can be broken. If people really want things unbalanced, there's always a number of cheats they can use.

*BioWare releases a patch that fixes a lot of bugs and notes that work continues on the 1.03 patch.*
"What the hell? You didn't fix every single bug! Why did you release the patch without fixing every single bug?!"
Gotta love it.

That comparison is not even close to the same. Athletes "choose" to dope, knowing it's an ILLEGAL advantage of other "players". This is a single player game game where players using the game mechanics as they were created. They are not doing anything considered illegal, or that effects other players.

I play a mage but know it's overpowered, and these changes are good. It will make me have to use a wider array of skills, rather than abusing the few that are too powerful.

how do you know people "abuse" anything, and how would it affect your gameplay?

It's always like this. Seen it at any MMORPG I played.
'QQ, you nerfed my class. I can't oneshot anyone anymore. FU, I QUIT, you won't be getting my money anymore.'
one month later
'QQ v.2, OMG, you buffed <insert class> ! Now they can actually kill me and I cannot pwn by facerolling! I quit for REAL this time! *adds another QQ to show I mean srs bsnss!'
I certainly hope the people over at BioWare have their giggles at these kind of responses, knowing these tards (harsh, but oh so true) will keep on playing (of course whining all the time) and buy the next game anyway. I know I would.

Maybe they just haven't decided how to fix crossbows, yet. It doesn't really make sense to scale their damage with strength.
On the plus side, you can fix them yourself by changing one number in a text file. That's all Georg's mod does!

How true. I, for one, refuse to play a game unless it has multiple "kill all enemies and win fight" keybinds pre-set for me by the devs!
I'm glad that Bioware has taken steps to address the most grievous issues plaguing an otherwise amazing game. Mages need even more nerfs, but, because of this patch, I'm confident that 1.03 and beyond will bring them. Thank God. Maybe one day I'll be able to use mages in a dps or CC role without feeling like I just activated a Game Genie.

I'm glad things are being fixed. Will us console users get this patch anytime soon?
Pretty much the whole update brings the PC version to par with the console version. There are very few PC-specific fixes in this patch.
In other words: console users started with these "fixes".
