Just a reminder - any files you might have in the packages\\\\core\\\\override directories from mods made on 1.02 or early WILL interfere with this patch and should be deleted.

Umm, obviously not *every* file will conflict with the patch. I'm guessing only those that change core scripts and GDA's (and not every one of them) will. Stuff like textures and head morphs should not conflict in any way.

Why exactly did they bother fixing this on PC when any PC user can use the console to instantly rise himself or herself to level 25? It seems rather silly......why would any PC user even bother to repeatedly talk to duncan for level-up XP?

Besides it's an alternative to the fact we have no New Game+ so why would they take that away?

So, they should have fixed it for XBox 360 and PS3, but left that code out from the PC version, just to keep you from raising an eyebrow, then? Not following the logic there. Plus, not everyone is a tech-wiz on the PC to open consoles and mess with cheat codes. Some people just bump into this stuff naturally and go "whoopie! Exploit!"

It's pointless even on consoles. I'll install the patch to get my broken achievements and continue using another exploit to level-up early. If they patch that too I can always remove the patches. My game works perfectly 100% flawlwss on the 360 except 2 of my achievements are broken. I don't need to keep the patch once I get the achievements and are recorded on XBL.

I think Chain Lightning needs to be nerfed a bit as well. It's a party killer.

I'd like to know why it's so good against the party but so bad when used by the party. I was hoping for a fix to make it scale with spellpower.

the reason is likely simply subjective. usually you're facing more than 4 opponents, so the damage spreads out a lot. when cast on your party though there are only 4 targets so it hurts alot.

Thank god Bioware understands game design better than the NERDRAGE MAGE UBER ALLES crowd on the forums. Will they apologize for flaming anyone who dared suggest that certain spells were overpowered and should be balanced and saying that Bioware will never do such a thing? One expects not.

Thanks, bioware.

Can we re-apply mods after the patch? The only one I have is the No Hat and I think I'll throw up If I have to see my party running around with hats all the time....

You're free to try.  Remember, user-generated content is not supported by BioWare or EA.  You use it at your own risk.  If it breaks v1.02, then you'll have to fix it.

I guess that means all the ladies get bras again....

Damn you BiWare for screwing up my bewbies!!!

But it's a single player game! There's no need for balance!

Thanks Bioware. These are some nice changes.

No need for that, good sir. There's no reason at all for those files to interfere with the patch. They are just model meshes and textures. I don't see anything in the patch notes indicating those were changed.

Well, it does feel cheap when you fight a boss and he spends almost the entire fight frozen solid because almost as soon as he thaws you're ready to freeze him again.  :wizard:

That said, you really should remove all of your mods before patching and then reapply them after.  This engine does some screwy things with mods (see Georg + Shale).

That is correct, although, for 90% of people, there is no good way to know - and in general the use of packages\\core\\override should be avoided for mods.

So there are other ways?

At the moment it's a bit annoying in that two mods can't modify the same files. Though that'sprobably  an unsolvable problem either way

Any word on if that DA update NT service is going to be eliminated and coded into the game instead?

Not gonna happen. the downloader needs elevated privileges which you don't want to run inside the game.

Not fix the serious problems, but throw in nerfs for the most popular class?

Exactly. What a shame.

If you don't like the (old) effects of Force Field, do what I do: don't use it. The solution is simple, even without a patch.

But if you don't like how weak the Shapeshifter line is... tough luck. Wait for the next patch. Or the one after.

Patches should focus on fixing skills that need a boost, rather than eliminating ones some players feel others shouldn't use.

Really?  They kinda seem like exactly the same thing to me.  On one hand you've got an underpowered or broken skill that results in it not being used.  On the other hand you've got an overpowered or broken skill that results in it not being used.  What makes one of those situations beg a fix more than the other?

I'm not sure I follow. If people started packing things like ABI_Base into .dazip, wouldn't that create even more problems for the average gamer? I mean, there's no way to look what's in those .erf's (without the Toolset, anyway). Or you had something else in mind?

This is the way I see it:

Add-ins (add stuff, not change)  = .dazip
Overrides (modified core game resoruces) = override

Uhm excuse me? There's a little tickbox in a Windows shortcut that will run the program in Administrator (=elevated privileges) mode. For what specific functionality you need admin privileges anyways? It doesn't need to be a service in order to update the 'protected' Program Files. I'm sincerely interested.

To replace the game executable, the DA update could remain a stand-alone like it is already, but instead be called by DA itself and simply sit in the system tray. When spawned by DA it will keep elevated privilages if DA was started as such.

I can't think of anything that would make something like the updater service requireing to sit in an NT service.

Really?  Mine's running with my user account credentials.  What exactly is that process doing?!

Actually ,yes, you are correct, we removed the need for it to elevate before lauch. Still, we won't encapsulate this functionality in the game client, no real point for it.

I hope you will consider it eventually though. It may not be a point for the game but it's a point for those users that hit escape on the introscreens where the service isn't fully started, making the game not recognize authorized DLC.

The second point is that some users experience this as system intrusion; those who are keen about their system. I'm not saying Bioware is not to be trusted (running DA in admin is no problem). It's just that an NT service that isn't providing a system level service is unwanted. In my case, I am not pleased with another installed service that's only needed for DA during the time playing DA.

I hope to see it changed - as it is now, it refrains me from actually buying DLC (and yes, I'm interested in it, but I'll let my wallet speak about this particular design decision)

I can think of a few reasons to do it.

1.  It's more secure.
2.  It's easier for the end user.
3.  You can avoid all of the headaches that we've had getting the process to install, run, and work properly.

I don't want anything running as a service unless it's absolutely necessary.  That's a terrible idea.

And by the way, this service runs as "SYSTEM" by default.  That's another bad idea.
